Leaders Make It Happen! is a targeted how-to for school administrators (department heads, vice-principals, principals, etc.) who have been assigned to run a Data Team in their school. A Data Team monitors data, analyzes strengths and obstacles, establishes goals, selects instructional strategies, and determines results indicators for individual students. In short, Data Teams are collaborative, structured, scheduled meetings that focus on the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
I would have probably gotten more from his if I hadn't been to two all day PD meetings on the topic. They make some good points (don't do too many initiatives; follow through well on the ones you do choose). It was a bit of a slow read. Obviously it is a professional text book but I have read ones that are written with more passion and really light a fire under you. Although I agree with this book and am willing to do what it says at my school, I'm not all fired up about it. Teacher books must be written with passion. This one isn't.
