The audiobook really is the best way to enjoy these comic monologues. With some wonderful actors reading them in broad Yorkshire tones, it feels as though you're in an audience with the writer on stage reciting them to you.

I knew The Lion and Albert, but every other was unfamiliar to me. And there are some real gems in here - I loved The Return of Albert especially, but the Ramsbottoms' other (mis)adventures were hilarious - Runcorn Ferry is an absolute classic.

The actors pausing between each recitation and talking about what Marriott's work has meant to them and how they first heard the monologues I thought was an excellent addition to the CD.

This is only a couple of hours long (to listen to), and well worth it for some amusement at the nostalgic feel and very funny rhymes. It's inspired me to want to write in this style myself.

I hope children in schools are still introduced to Albert!
