Definitely an intro into various aspects of the Ottomon Empire. I enjoyed some of the commentary into everyday Ottoman life and was able to grasp an idea of the cosmopolitan Ottoman identity. The idea that being Ottoman means you could have Turkish, Greek, Armanian, Albanian, Syrian and many other ethnicities in a well administered and stable (before it's final years) socio-economic environment.

The chapters on the great buildings and layout of Istanbul really do require extra resources to accom
