This is a fun extra for the Kane Chronicles. You definitely should NOT read it before reading the first or second book (It's been a while, so I don't know how much this spoils the series. I think it spoils through the second book though). It doesn't have anything you don't already get from reading the series, but seeing the pictures was nice.

A short ready, and probably only interesting to the Riordan addict.
The illustrations commissioned for the series are pretty cool, and seeing picture of the places we visit in the books are great, but some of these are straight up stock images.
This is great if you took a long break between reading the second book and the last one, serves as a refresher course in all things Kane Chronicles.

Cute but doesn't give you any new information about the trilogy.

Only for really big fans of the series. While I love Riordan for giving so much information about mythology and history in his YA books, this companion book was dissatisfying in its depth of coverage of the characters and story and of the mythology and facts, it ended up feeling shallow on all counts. As a fan, I wanted to see more pictures of the kids or characters I was so invested in and it was really disappointing to see so few and to read about so few of them. On the other hand, as an adult ...more

This book had a lot more information than I was expecting, more than the Percy Jackson one of similar design, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Ultimate Guide. It had some Egyptian legends, a timeline of the Pharaohs, and information on mummification and hieroglyphs, information that you wouldn't get just from reading the series. At least I don't think so. I've been immersed in the world of Camp Half-Blood for 13 books so I have absorbed a lot of the information naturally. The Kane Chronicl ...more

Cute stories but it don't add anything new to the series. Most of the information here is in the trilogy, so read the trilogy.

This book doesn't provide a whole lot of new information, but it was fun to read and the art was a nice extra.

A cool quick review of the Kane Chronicles. I read the series a while ago and really enjoyed it.

This was a short little companion to The Kane Chronicles but it was nothing too special. It's not essential reading at all since all of the information gathered here is included in that series anyway.

Excellent for anyone aged 9 and over

Utterly loved it its, literally a guidebook all the characters we've met in the series of Kane Chronicles so far, beautifully illustrated and extra information on each. The Kane Chronicles are a a series by the same author who wrote Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief ( the movie did not do those books justice the books are amazing), in the Kane Chronicles the lead characters Sadie and Carter find out they are Wizards, not like Harry Potter Wizards I am talk

I love the informational guides that Riordan has published to go with each of his series. This one, discussing the Kane Chronicles was exceptional. It was broken down into several section that discussed, characters, locations, objects, magical disciplines and several other aspects of the series. The book was written with his trademark humor and wit, and was a highly enjoyable read. Among the "informative" aspects were also section like a magazine article interview with Sadie, and the transcript ...more

I thought this book was amazing because it guides you through the Kane Chronicles trilogy. I like the fact that it gives me more information that I didn't already know. For instance, it gives me a background of ancient Egypt, and stories of the gods and goddesses. I also liked that it tells you what path to follow. It makes you feel like you're actually training to be a magician. The only downside of the book is that it mostly talks about magicians and Egypt, and less of the Kane's and I felt i ...more

Yeah. You know why I gave it 5 stars?
Because it's expensive. The velvet-red-colored cover (like that of the Percy Jackson's series) with changing pictures if you tilt it on one side. The glossy paper. And look how much ink it took! A bit worth it-- if you're really an avid fan of Ric Riordan. Great pictures. Gives you a little knowledge about Egypt, the House of Life & [of course], Magic! ~ blah. blah. The usual meet-the-characters and the-places-they-go or magical-weapons-they-use stuff. Y

The book was good with amazing illustrations. It was very informative. It told about the Egyptian gods and other mythological in detail. The whole journey of Saddie and Carter Kane was expressed in short. There was a complete bio of the characters given with their whole description. I found it a bit boring but some parts were interesting. Especially the pictures. At first, I just flipped through the book and saw the pictures which were very catchy. The book is good if one wants to know about som ...more

The Kane Chronicles: Survival Guide by Rick Riordan is a companion book to the Kane Chronicles series. It contains all you need to know about the world of the Egyptian gods, characters from the Kane Chronicles, and even hieroglyphics. I really enjoyed the way this book felt a lot like a text book one of the magical trainees would have.

What I like about this book is that you can see the letters and symbols that they use for the hieroglyphs and the different gods and goddesses of ancient Egypt. It is quite a good book for studying Egyptology at school in History Grade 5.

Really good! I think the only way it could be better if there was like a quiz "what patron go would you have?" or something.
