Very light on text, illustrated with upclose photos of actual beavers. Formatted with the normal nonfiction book components: table of contents, glossary, bibliography, and index. All of these components were not really necessary as it is a brief book. That said the photos of real beavers are wonderful as I was actually seeing the interior of the lodge and how small the internal space was in comparison to the outside of a lodge, most drawn illustrations misrepresent this. The other two facts of interest were that the dam that is built makes a pond of still deep water behind it and that a beaver lodge can be built in a few days.

The fiction book I decided to pair with this book is "Turtle's Race with Beaver" by Joseph Bruchac. This is a cute story that tells a little bit about a beaver who is racing a turtle. This pairs well because the beaver is a large part of this story and it says how strong a beaver is and knowing a bit more about beavers can be beneficial when reading the story.
