I learned some valuable tips from this book, especially how to shoot into light, to capture that glow that has always so much allured me. And also some good pointers for how to handle the digital workflow, and editing. He really likes having a narrow depth of field to help focus on the subject of the photo. I like the technique too, up to a point, but I feel it can be over done. But I think his strongest emphasis was on the importance of capturing the ideal light.
This book has amazing garden photos, of course! The author walks the reader through various lessons on photography with an emphasis on taking photos in the garden. Each chapter has an exercise that reinforces what you've learned in the chapter. I only made it through the first three chapters, but I found the assignments helpful as I wandered around the community garden taking photos. I will definitely check this out again next year and continue to learn how to take better photos.
