Happily Ever Afton

Rate this book
Movie critic Afton Lanford had put off picking out her wedding gown until the last possible moment, but once she's all buttoned into her ruffled satin gown she spots her fiance's tongue - deep in the mouth of the dishonorable maid-of-honor's! Still in her dress, her mad-dash pursuit of the cheating pair leads her to run into and over Cooper Stewart Carrington - the third - on her red motor scooter outside a Seattle coffee shop.

Trying to run from a persistent suitor of his own, Cooper agrees to the nutty plan she proposes to pretend to be "lovers" to throw off their exes. Their "Strangers on a Train" deal leads to hilarity and hijinks as Afton and Cooper attend a series of events with their former partners in hot pursuit - and discover along the way if strangers can ever...criss-cross...into lovers...

Afton is getting married but she’s been putting off picking out her dress for some reason. It doesn’t help that her maid of honor keeps avoiding her, and her fiancé is so cheap, she had to buy her own ring as well as the dress. It’s no wonder she’s not excited about it. Things finally click together, though, when she sees her best friend and her fiancé strolling arm in arm and kissing like they’ve done it quite a few times before.
In pursuit to let them know exactly what she thinks of both of them, Afton runs down Cooper who’s looking his scruffiest after just returning from his latest mountain climbing expedition. Suddenly caught between a woman scorned and her cheating fiancé, he does his best to help her save face. Just moments later, he needs her help to fend off a persistent problem of his own. Out of this unfortunate bonding experience, the two concoct a plan to rid themselves of both problems for good as they pretend to be engaged. The problem is – when does the pretending stop and reality begin?
It has been a while since I reviewed a contemporary romance and Kelly Curry’s Happily Ever Afton was the perfect book to jump back into the genre. I immediately became engrossed in Afton’s quirky outlook on life and Cooper’s fascination with everything Afton. From beginning to end, this roller coaster of a relationship had me rooting for criss-cross love.
One of the things that made Happily Ever Afton such an enjoyable read is that Kelly Curry gave her characters real feelings. Afton didn’t just fall into Cooper’s arms after breaking up with her ex. Her emotions are all mixed up, her trust issues are off the charts, and she’s not sure what she wants anymore. Cooper has his own issues. He’s finding himself more and more attracted to Afton, but because of his own trust issues, he mislead her in the beginning. But now, he’s finding it harder and harder to tell her the truth after she mistakes him for a bank teller instead of the investment banker that he is. The more he gets to know her, the less impressed he thinks she’ll be with his success and lifestyle. No, the mistaken identity in a romance is not a new concept, but in this story, you won’t mind. Even though the character’s misunderstandings and self-imposed roadblocks are sometimes frustrating to read - you want to shake them and tell them to get over it, you can understand the hurt feelings and stubbornness that can lead all of us to sometimes make poor decisions. Filled with raw emotion, laughs and passion, Happily Ever Afton is one enjoyable read. I thank the author for providing me with a review copy and I give the book five stars.

This is an entertaining story full of humor and romance. Afton and Cooper are engaging and likable characters, and their antics gave me quite a few chuckles. Cooper’s efforts to keep Afton from finding out who he really is were pretty funny at times, and her revenge when she found out was priceless. Her aversion to men of wealth was a little over the top, but his aversion to women in search of wealthy husbands was a little more understandable. I had a hard time understanding some of the decisions they made, but overall the story is a fun read.

Happily Ever Afton by Kelly Curry. Overall, it’s a good book to read. It has a great plot, many funny moments, and several characters I immensely enjoyed. It was very hard to read, though, as there were many punctuation errors and run on sentences. Those errors made me confused at times and I had to backtrack a good bit.

I enjoyed the initial meeting of Afton and Cooper. They really defined running into each other. Afton is a woman after my own heart. She got pissed at her soon-to-be husband and decided to fight fire with fire. In other words, since he was kissing another woman, *cough* her maid of honor and bff *cough*, and thought he could get away with doing it in a very public place, then she should have no problems reciprocating the gesture. With Cooper. Woo hoo. Way to go girl! Afton’s sense of humor throughout the entire book had me laughing and smiling because she definitely wasn’t a simpering young miss. I’m not sure if Cooper was just going along for the ride or if he really did want Afton’s help with their “Strangers On A Train” theory. Coopers family was super. I loved his nieces, who also took a real shine to Afton. My heart broke for Afton when she feels betrayed, but that she decided to turn the tables on Cooper, I once again found myself cheering for her. She has hudspah for a lack of a more colloquial term. The ending was the best I’ve read in a contemporary romance in a while. I would recommend this book.

Afton Lanford is engaged to Jason and while on her lunch break, she decides to go and try on wedding gowns. While in the Bridal Shop, Afton sees Jason and her best friend and Maid-of-Honor Mollie in a very intimate embrace. While in pursuit of Jason and Mollie, she runs into Cooper Carrington, knocking him on his back. As Jason and Mollie approached her, the idea comes to her, she will use Cooper to make Jason think that she was cheating on him all along so she would look like a fool.

Once they get rid of Jason and Mollie, her and Cooper run into Katherine, a woman that thinks that she and Cooper are in a relationship and is eager to get married. Now it becomes Cooper's turn to pretend that he and Afton are in a relationship to throw a wrench in Katherine's plans to snag a husband.

Afton and Cooper decide to carry on the ruse because she has events to attend and Jason will be there and Cooper also has events where Katherine will be.
Things seem to be going well and they are even starting to have feelings for one another until Afton discovers that Cooper is everything that she hates, Wealthy.

Afton must decide if she can put her past hurt, caused by her father behind her and give Cooper at real chance a love.

This was a good book and I really enjoyed reading it. I liked how the storyline was easy to follow and the characters were likeable!

Wow! This book was absolutely hilarious! Afton had me cracking up from the very start! If you’re looking for a good romantic comedy, then this’ll be a good one for ya! There’s very little cursing, but there are some steamy scenes. However, if you’re not into the steamy scenes, they don’t take place often and can easily be skimmed through.

Despite it’s hilarious start, the book does have a deeper story. In fact, I felt downright distraught at one point. And when Cooper is discovered to be lying to Afton, you can feel the intense burn he’s feeling. In the end everything is just funny again, though.

I also want to say that this is one of those stories that has been told more than a few times – a girl and a guy use each other to get at another guy and girl. But, it was still so fresh! I even made a little note half way through the book that I couldn’t believe how intrigued I still was.

At the time I’m writing this, the book is still free on Amazon – make sure you check before purchasing yourself. It had a few editing issues, but not too many, and I would have happily paid for this one! I’m really looking forward to reading more from Kelly Curry!!

It's my first time reading a book by this author and I'm sorry to admit that I didn't like it that much, it was good but it didn't leave such a good impression I'm afraid.

From the synopsis I expected it to be more funny and catchy, but it wasn't.

- I'm afraid to say I didn't like any of the characters in this book, especially not the heroine, personally I thought her overly dramatic and over the top kind of reaction wise. And the hero with his self-dugged hole of deceit which was no brainer.

- And the other couple were pushing it a bit too far, though I consider myself a very polite person but those seriously were making me want to just tell them to "fuck the hell away and I don't want to ever see them again" I just can't understand the stamina that the main couple had to keep patient till the very end, and I think the stamina they had for patience is more than their stamina in bed, and that's saying something XD

- I'm glad the ending was fast and smooth without any bumps from the characters that would delay their happily ever after.

Overall, *thumbs down*

If you are looking for a romance with a couple of delightful characters, then you should read this novel. I would not suggest trying to make it more than a romance novel, it is simplistic and a fairly entertaining read, but it is not a literary classic.

I really enjoyed the character of Cooper, though Afton often made me want to slap her silly. There are some great movie references, amusing moments, and I was easily able to finish the read in 3 days.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is wanting to be told a story without having to think too much. I did enjoy the book, even though it might sound like I didn't. Read it and you will see why.

This was a real surprise for me and I really enjoyed it. I previously had never read anything from this author, but I'll be looking for more from her after this.

Afton and Cooper are hilarious, relatable and a special treat to read about.
There were a few times throughout this story that I was cringing, but only because I really wanted to reach into the pages and smack Cooper around. The story line was one I've read about before, but the way this was told was magic for my eyes.

I definitely recommend reading this!

I thoroughly enjoyed this easy, fun, naughty & full of misunderstanding story. Cooper was run over by Afton on her scooter whilst chasing her cheating fiancee. They hatch a plan to help each other out over the next couple of months pretending to be each other's partner, but things get complicated when emotion & attraction come into the deal. Getting himself in a pickle having led Afton to believe certain things about him, Coopers cover is blown & he pays the ultimate price - or does he. A feel-good romantic book. I would give it 3.5 star but it's more 4 than 3.

I wasn't expecting much, it was free on my Kindle. I found it was kind of laughable with the language the characters used. Afton used a lot of "gosh darn it"s in the beginning and their "love making" was a little ridiculous. Afton starts to border on the side of being a little slutty towards the middle and into the end of the book. Very predictable and I was ready for it to be done about half way through, the plot had already peaked. If you want a quick, dime novel read, this is it.

I really enjoyed this book and wish it had been longer. Even though the story seemed brief, it felt complete. Except for a showdown between Afton and Cooper's mother. That leaves the possibility of a sequel, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for that. And I'm looking forward to reading more by Kelly Curry.

What will you do if you will find yourself in a situation when you see your fiance kissing your bridemaid while you have a wedding dress fitting???
you will chase the buggers and call everything off?? Or maybe madly running to follow him and her you will trip over and 'land' on a handsome stranger??
Great book, great character.
It was my pre-Christmas reading.... :)

The premise was good. The chapters were choppy. The overuse of italics in the dialogue were at best annoying, and at worst made the hero sound feminine. A good editor could have made this an excellent book rather than a mediocre read.

I couldn't even force myself to finish this book. The writing is very amateur and the storyline unbelievable. Kudos to the author for the attempt, but this book really needed an editor to guide her path.

light, fluffy, likeable. Great holiday reading and if you like the average rom-com this will suit you. Nothing horrid or nasty to be found and the characters are quite well crafted and easy to identify with.

Forced myself to finish. The dialogue was the worst - italics everywhere. I could have liked the premise, but this book needed a decent editor.
