Ellen Finnigan embarked on her twenties in the first years of the 21st century, at the crest of third wave feminism, at the height of the chick-lit craze. If chick-lit is about jobs and boys, and all Catholic books are about, as Walker Percy once said, “screwing and God,” then this is a spiritual autobiography in which the critical questions of the “me years” (about jobs, ...more

I won "The Me Years" as a First Reads giveaway, here on Goodreads. I will say that I wasn't sure if I would like the book - I'm not religious, but I am interested in spiritual journeys (so funny, that she touches on this subject in the book). I just hoped that it wouldn't be too "preachy".

While there were some sections that can only be described as preachy, overall, I really enjoyed the book. As I am currently in my own "me years", there were many points that Ellen Finnigan made that "spoke" to

i won this book as part of a Good Reads give away. at first i was a bit leery of it, but once i was a couple of chapters into it, i really enjoyed the narrative. the style and cadence to the writing is really what drew me into the book. then before i knew it, i was drawing parallels to my own life and my quarter century crisis. i really recommend this book to ladies everywhere and my copy has begun it's circle around my friends, each of us writing a little memo to the next as we pass it along. t ...more

Full disclosure: My cousin wrote this book. And more disclosure: I really enjoyed reading it. It was, at turns, juicy, funny, spiritual, philosophical, and emotional. To say it like that makes it sound like the Bridget Jones Diary, but it's really not. It's not that easy to fit into one genre. I recommend it. End disclosure.

Full disclosure: I am in this book and worked at Noise with Ellen.

Because of this, it is hard for me to evaluate this book or make a recommendation to people as i have no idea how people who aren't in it will find it. Personally, i couldn't stop reading it. Again, this could be because i was in it, but that aside, it's extremely well written and it will move you.

Check it out.

Great memoir, very real. There is a little bit of verbal sloppiness that would have benefited from professional editing, and some type setting errors, but the book is self-published.
