After The Battle of Hogwarts Draco Malfoy went into hiding, fleeing trial. 10 years later he's found and sentenced to exile. He takes to wandering the Edinburgh streets feeling hopeless and alone. One cold October night he wanders into a small coffee shop that just so happens to be owned by Hermione Granger, who disappeared from the Wizarding World shortly after the war, choosing to live off the grid in the muggle world.
Hermione isn't ready to forgive him, but Draco is ready to change. The two form an unlikely friendship that slowly blossoms into something more. But when a poisoning plot of supposed vigilantes who aren't too happy about a former Death Eater walking free starts to threaten the quiet life they've built together, Hermione and Draco must call upon friends old and new to help them.
This fanfic healed something in me. Loved this post war, romantic idiot Draco and badass coffee shop owner Hermionie who healed their trauma together. I will absolutely be re-reading this in the future. Grab some tissues and enjoy this enemies to friends to lovers romance
A little light Dramione break in between the dark and angsty dramione. As the author notes—while this is a coffee shop AU, dark themes and traumas are discussed. But I truly love a post Hogwarts redemption arc for Draco. I was not expecting the Ron Weasley plot twist. And Dudley and Harry’s side story was perfect. That is canon in my world.

I absolutely loved this story, wow. I was immediately hooked on the initial interactions of our idiots. The banter, the rage! I felt this Hermione in my soul. I just really loved Draco’s path to earning her forgiveness. I’d die for Carly. I hardly ever “love” original characters but she was perfect. Her friendship with Draco especially with her background was so important. I would love to see Carly & Theo to get married and open a mind healing facility that mixes Muggle and Magic techniques!

✍️ A tale of deserving forgiveness and redeeming oneself
After everything they went though, there is no love left from Hermione for Draco. But she was not a Gryffindor for nothing, despite their shared past, she can not let him rot and starve. Draco is no more the Slytherin prince he once was, being on the wrong side, having to hide and loosing his wizard identity can only change a man. Still he is astonished when the brain of the golden trio rescues him and even offers him shelter. Their romance is not a smooth one, as while Draco falls fast, he has had ten years to rethink his actions and change his views. But Hermione has been left with the image of the boy who bullied her her whole teens. So she is a wrecked ball of angst, filled nightmares and hate fueled angst. Forgiving won’t come easily, she must face first her rage, address her memory of past Draco and acknowledge his adult self, then work with herself to determine what she wants and how ready she is to move forward on a path she never would have expected ten years ago. So this is her journey from furor to forgiveness.
« In my anger it never occurred to me that you might have suffered at the hands of your family too.(…) I want you to be the one I go to when I’m upset or angry or afraid. I want to crawl into your arms when I need comfort and I can’t do that if I’m constantly reminding myself that there was once a time when we didn’t feel this way about each other. (…) I forgive you for being a scared teenager thrown into the middle of a war. I forgive you being a stupid rich kid regurgitating the hateful rhetoric of his father. I forgive you, Draco Malfoy. I forgive you. I forgive you. I forgive you.” »
Draco is not perfect, he is still in some way the haughty princess he once was, he is arrogant, bratty when it pleases him, taunting Harry for the fun of it, but he is also a man who cares and better himself for a woman he believes to not deserve but will not give up whatever his failing because she is his person, the one who sees him, really sees him behind his cynicism, wits, quips and flaws. And what would be a HP tale without a dash of danger, threats and a group of misfits determined to put thing right.
A delight threat of childhood enemies becoming adult friends and more.
Super angsty at the start, really sweet at the end and a wonderful blend of funny, frustrating, action-packed and spicy in the middle. There is a lot of old wounds and raised voices at first, but justifiably so, with Draco being a pining idiot and Hermione being a stubborn witch, but you’ll soon get to idiots in love, a dysfunctional but hilarious found family, of both muggles and wizards, and a surprisingly emotional reunion I’ve never seen in a fic before. A lovely 100k fic I’ll definitely be reading again in the future.
DNF @ 40% - too many books to read and not enough time to be wasting it on rubbish like this. Draco is waay OOC and they got together like 5% in, not keen.
To preface this, I have great respect for anyone who writes a story, clearly puts their heart and soul into it, and makes it free for all to read. I did think this author had an observant way of noting the simple things in life, and expanding upon them. I also enjoyed their take on the Wizarding Worlds’ interaction with “muggle” items, like perplexity with a telephone booth.
This story is for someone out there. However, it wasn’t my cuppa tea. The main characters were so far removed from their “canon” persona, halfway through I had to reorient my mind and simply view the characters as separate/different people completely. To me, the characters got under my nails, made me want to gnash my teeth, and pull my hair out. That being said, I recognize that some people and their views on life, fun, and maturity are wholly different from my own. So… this was a take. I also hope this author continues to write, and learn, and grow. There were moments of nice pacing and suspense, and other moments where events went on a roller coaster ride for no reason, smattered with such spectacular penmanship, such as “And then somehow, they all went back to [. . . ].” Truly, excellent lexical prowess there.
The best relationship and characterization in the story revolved around a side plot of Harry and Dudley reconciling. For that alone I stuck around.
A solid 3 stars ⭐️ I really enjoyed the dynamic between Draco and Hermione in this one. Him being her employee was cute and different than other fics I’ve read. I love a Draco that is trying to heal but can’t help but still be his selfish, possessive self at times 🤣 and Hermione still loves him for it. There was a side character that I’ve never seen in other fics that I thought was a very cool inclusion - very heartwarming. This was also was spicier than anticipated 🌶️🌶️🌶️ but you won’t catch me complaining.
A song that reminds me of this story: Daylight by Taylor Swift ✨✨✨
“I once believed love would be burning red (Ron’s hair) But it’s golden” (Draco’s hair)
How to describe how brilliant this fan-fic is in seven simple points?
1. It's set in Edinburgh. 2. Perfect depiction of real feminine rage. 3. Draco's bisexual (honestly, why is this not a thing?). 4. Dudley being an important character. 5. She owns a coffee shop. A fucking coffee shop. 6. Hermione fucking Granger is so magically written. 7. There's no pregnancy trope (which in most fanfics is).
Forever and always, I’m sucker for Dramione. Their pairing makes sense to me and I think in all universes, they bring out the best out of each other and complete each other. On a fall day, this is the perfect, cozy Dramione fan fiction you could read.
Infinity stars! 🩷💫 I loved this so much. I don’t know how this doesn’t have more 5 star reviews. Forced proximity, found family, enemies to lovers. It’s a short, sweet, easy read. Probably one of my fav fan fics of all time. This was such a delight, especially after reading some of the more heavy, long fan fics out there.
Draco’s groveling and persistence healing Hermione’s rage was beautiful. Hermione filling the void within Draco was beautiful. Gryffindors, Slytherins & muggles forming a family together was beautiful. The Easter eggs throughout the book were wonderful. Fuck Ronald Weasley.
Dramione fanfic. On the shorter side, not sure how many words, but it’s not super long. In this fic, Draco ran away after the war, after hiding for 10 years he was caught and sentenced to exile. Homeless, he stumbles into Hermione’s muggle cafe. She decided to leave the magical world behind. We get to see a different side of Draco here, he’s not a softie but he is not the same insufferable boy we know. Hermione has a character arc that is hard to believe sometimes, but the author did a good job in making her make sense to us.
What I liked: - Dudley is very present in this fic. He gets redemption, and Harry gets a family. - Carly, the muggle friend. She’s used as a literary vehicle, I’m sure that whenever the author wanted something to happen, they put Carly in the middle to do it. It was very obvious sometimes, but I didn’t mind much. She was funny and outgoing. - Ron bashing. The biggest Ron bashing I’ve seen in fanfics so far. The boy turns evil and Molly is a bad person.
What I didn’t like: - You would think this Draco is a vampire, from how many times he bites Hermione’s neck. Also, the ‘placing her earlobe in his mouth and biting’ got old pretty fast. Spice is at 30% of potential. - Gay representation and sexual abuse representation. I’m sure the author didn’t mean it that way, but to the normal reader it seems like someone liked men because he was abused by a woman when they were young. It’s unfair to let this kind of things slide. Better SA representation needed. As for the bisexual part, it was mentioned once and never again. Like this character got ‘cured’ from it by sleeping with a women. Careful there.
2.75/5 I don’t want to be harsh but this was not my cup of tea The author put the fic on goodreads. That’s why I’ll write a comment here. Let’s start with what I like about this fic : the smut was great and the coffee shop setting was good .ron being an asshole was canon to me That’s it . This fic made me so mad …… 1 Carly felt like a self insert . I didn’t like her at all. That fact that no one cared that she is a muggle and told her they were wizards !! Also her befriending Draco so fast and easily and them becoming best friends left sooooo ooc ! I cringed at that 2 this was tagged as slow burn but where???? Where is the slow burn ? I didn’t feel it at all. They liked each other was too fast and got together way too fast. 3 the inconsistency of hermione and Draco’s trauma . Like she mentioned Draco had nightmares too just once and then never again … the focus was on hermione’s trauma mostly and even that was not well planned and written. 4 herminoe using a killing curse and it not affecting her mentally at all is so weird , like are there no consequences to using an unforgivable? 5 the dynamic between Draco and hermione felt off. She saved him from being homeless and poor and he begins to love her … they are not equals , she has more power …. How can he say he loves her truly ? Even when he would try to apologize in his own way she would not let him… the author said that hermione will not forgive him easily BUT THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!,!, 6 this fic made me discover that I hate fic that are set in the modern/ muggle world . Anyways , I don’t regret reading this .. but yeah … whatever
