I love this book. It is perfectly retold for children to better understand the plot and moral of the story. This king had to put his proprieties in life first and cast aside the vain things that pass in fashion with the seasons. And one should not fall for flattery but rather believe those who are honest even if it hurts one's vanity. The illustrations are gorgeous, definitely part of the bookshelf collection.

Someone (Mom, perhaps) gave this book to me many years ago. At the time I was under the impression that the Emperor's New Clothes was my favorite fairy tale. Since my name is Bob, this seemed like a good fit, I suppose.
It's a decent version of the tale, although there is more after the "reveal" than is necessary. And why the recipes? Just because Deluise fancied himself a cook doesn't mean a children's book needs recipes that don't fit with the book.

Read as a read aloud today with the students. They picked up on this very well. Sometimes I feel the story goes over students' heads as they don't pick up the shenanigans of the tailors and the king's/emperor's feigning seeing the cloth. Not this class.
They howled when King Bob presented himself to the people. Fun stuff!

When Dom DeLuise died and I read his obituary I learnt that he wrote several childrens books. This is the only one that my library had. It's a reworking of The Emporer's New Clothes. I do like that King Bob's full name is King Discombobulated. But the jokes don't really work if you have to explain them in the text.
