Chicken Soup For The Girl’s Soul
By: Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hanson, Patty Hanson, and Irene Dunlap
Review By: Paige Tornow

Chicken Soup For The Girl’s Soul is a book of compiled stories written by girls, about girl things. There are different sections on different things, from Tough Stuff to Friendships. There are lots of stories about bullying, family, meeting new people, and finding your true friends. At the beginning of each story, there’s a quote from someone famous. They give you a feel for what the story is going to be about. This book is filled with inspiring stories of people overcoming obstacles and learning important lessons that can be carried on throughout life.
This book is a self-help book that grabs your attention from the first story. It’s a great book for people who get bored of a book easily because every couple pages there’s a new story. This book would only be appropriate for girls. I thought that it was very interesting and would definitely recommend to any girl looking for a good read.

Chicken soup for the girl’s soul
By Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hanson, Patty Hanson, and Irene Dunlap

Why did you decide to read this book?
. I had wondered about reading this book for a long time. A good friend of mine recommended it for me last year but I never got around to reading it. This year I decided that I would finally give the book ago.

What category on the bingo board does the book complete?
. I chose to put this book under the category of three poems or short stories from one anthology. Chicken Soup for the Girl’s Soul is a book filled with stories written by girls and about girl things. There are different sections on different things, from Tough Stuff to Friendships, bullying, family, meeting new people, and finding your true friends. I enjoyed reading the short stories because sometimes book can get a bit boring but this book had a new story every few pages so you never get bored.

What's your favourite quote from the book? And why?

."The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain"~Dolly Parton
This is my favourite quote from the book. I think the quote means that compared to life, or any goal you want to achieve, you must work hard to achieve it, because unless you work hard, you will not be rewarded. The rainbow comes after the rain, when the sun comes out. Rainbows do not show up with just a sunny day, it has to rain, stop raining, and then the sun has to come out. I think this quote is very meaning full and teaches you how nothing in life comes easy.

What is something new you have learnt from the book?
.Something new I learnt from this book was that there are lots of other people that feel the same as I do. Sometimes you feel like that things happen to you and you wonder if its only happening to you but this book would really help if you felt different. This book is filled with inspiring stories of people overcoming obstacles and learning important lessons that can be carried on throughout life.

A character or setting that was interesting? And why?
.A character from the book that I found interesting was Chloe. Chloe was a girl from the story “Not that different”. I really enjoyed reading about Chloe, she always worried about being different because she had acne, boobs and she had already started her period. Most of her time at high school she hid from people until she meet Amanda. She and Amanda became friends and Chloe realised that she wasn’t so different to everyone else. I found Chloe interesting because I think most teenage girls are worried about being different but we are all the same in our own way.
.A setting that I found interesting was Kerry’s house. Kerry lived in a very big expensive house. I really liked the way that they described it in the book. A big cream painted house with big windows and French doors. Four floors of elegant interior design. Rooms filled with crystal chandeliers and leather sofa’s. I found it interesting because Kerry took what she had for granted but most people would love to have what she did.

.Another character I found interesting was Megan. I found Megan’s family very interesting. She was very close to all of her family and they all supported each other but when one of her aunts moves away why is it that everyone slowly drifts apart. I found this very interesting because I believe no matter what happens you should always stay close to your family.

I really did enjoy reading chicken soup for the girl’s soul. I would really recommend for a girl who is looking for a good book that they can relate to.

Chicken Soup for the Girl's Soul

I chose to read this book because my dad bought me the book, and it had been sitting in my draw for my teenage years. I decided to read this book this year because I am finally here.

The category on the bingo board I chose was 'THREE poems or short stories from ONE anthology'
Because Chicken Soup for the Girl's Soul is filled with a bunch of short stories published by a numerous amount of teenage girls, expressing their experiences during teenage years.

My Favourite quote is 'You Can't be Brave if You've Only Had Wonderful Things Happen to You-Mary Tyler Moore' I like this quote because it makes me think about all the things I have been through, most things were positive, compared to some of the shocking happenings in this novel.

Something new I've learnt from this book is that I'm very lucky.
Some girls in this book have experienced difficulties through their life and I'm very lucky because I haven't been so hard done by.

A character that was interesting to me is a girl named Kayla, in her life story, she writes about her best friend Ku'ulei. She writes about how much their friendship means to each other, how many memories they've made together, how they were Siamese twins, True friends and Soul sisters. She then describes her feelings on a horrific phone call with her best friend's brother, telling her the passing of Ku'ulei.
She finishes the story with a long poem dedicated to Ku'ulei. This makes me realize how I act to my friends, and how I should cherish their friendship even more, not only with friends but family.

I am so grateful for this book because it has taught me heaps. I recommended this book to every teenage girl anywhere. It has every situation you could name during your teenage years. Lovely book.

This book is amazing. Inside this cool book are so many real inspiring stories. There is one that is really sad and it was about how a girls father had cancert. The girl didn't really- well I wouldn't say that she didn't care but she didn't take advantage of the time she had sice her dad is still alive. What I mean by that is that the girl would go to her friends house or to play soccer with her friends and one time while the girl was in her friends house her dad died. I could tell that she regrets going to her friends house. There was also a story about about how a girl was getting bullied and then stood up for her self and im pretty sure that that one is a really inspiring story, because ive seen so many people getting bullied and are scared to stand up for them selves. However if someone is getting bullied and reads the story then it is more likely for that person to be inspired and then stand up for themselves. Then there would be few and fewer people getting bullied each day. This is why I also recommend this book as well.I also liked how this book is 'only girls' but that's something I disagree on. Yes there are some girly things in there that boys could keep far from but there should also be a boy book on this because not only girls need inspiring stories boys do too.

Advice/ self help
Chicken soup for a girls soul was a good book to read. Basically, if you know what the chicken soup series is all about, it is just a bunch of true life stories from real girls about everything a girl might go through as they grow up. Some of these stories were funny and made me laugh and others were very serious or heartbreaking. Reading this book it kind of helps in a way that if that same experience happened to you, you know that you are not the only one who has been through it and there are other people in the world who feel the exact same way that you do! Also, this book gave you advice, so if you did go through similar situation, it kind of gives you advice to how to deal with the situation. Reading this book was very reassuring and actually kind of helpful in a lot of ways that you wouldn’t think were possible.

In the Chicken Soup for the Girl's Soul, there are lots of real life stories from girls experiences. There are stories from embarrassing moments to first boyfriends to family stuff. At the end of each story the author tells what she learned from her experience and it gives advice for you. I loved reading this book!

This book doesn't have a movie but I think it would be cool if it did.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. It let's young girls learn new things about life and it teaches lessons. It's also a book that you are interested in throughout the whole thing. I also loved how this book had different stories from many girls because it made it interesting.

My daughter is reading this, and learning so many positive things from it. Yesterday she told me "mom, I learned that it does not matter if you are fat or skinney, but that you are beautiful on the inside is what matters." Also; "that if you lie to your mom, that you get in much bigger trouble than just telling her the truth from the beginning." and "boys are not really grown up until they want to sit by you. The boys who are still young like to tease." good book for girls!

The book has been my best support every time I felt low. It makes me feel like there are more girls like me being through tough and more tougher times than me. One of the best book I've read. I feel completely fine after reading some stories though I've completed reading all of them still I love reading them again. My advice every teen girl must have one copy with her. Seriously a good one.

The authors’ purpose of this book is to show young girls different lessons about life. The author of each story wants readers to feel that what they are going through is a part of life. If a situation in this book happens to the reader, they know they’re not the only one. They show how to handle situations such as a first kiss or a death in the family.
The main theme of this book is to be true to yourself and the people around you. Do what you think is right, and enjoy life. The section “The Pressure’s On” is all about peer pressure. It includes stories about real girls who stood up for what they believed in and what was right. In some stories, girls had chosen a friend instead of popularity. In another story, a girl simply said no to cigarettes.
This book is broken into 10 sections that include six to nine stories about the same theme. I believe each story is written in the rhetorical mode known as description. In the first person point of view, the stories describe life-changing events by the girls who actually experienced the events.
Descriptive writing gives the readers the feeling of experiencing an event first-hand. Description is effective for this book because the authors and almost all of the readers are teens. That means that the teenage readers better understand what the author is saying because they are both in the same age group, and they have about the same teenage mindset. Most of the events in these stories will occur to all girls at one point or another. The first-hand feeling of the book prepares a person better for when it actually happens to them.
For example, the story “Hero” is about a girl who lost her mother and the events leading up to it. The author retold the story as if she wrote the story the day it happened. She wrote the many thoughts that went through her head when she found her mother unconscious. Another story that uses a lot of descriptive writing is “The Party that Lasted a Lifetime.” The author wrote about the many thoughts that raced through her head when she went to an older girl’s high school party. She went into great detail, and she even described the outfit she was wearing.
I loved this book. It contains many powerful messages in its stories. I have learned a lot about how to handle various situations. The stories I liked the most were the ones about boys. In the section “Crushing Hard,” I found the love stories very enjoyable. I also liked that the stories in this book were short. It kept my attention. I did not like the stories about death in the section “Tough Stuff,” but it made me appreciate my friends and family much more. I don’t think the authors or editors should change anything about the wonderful Chicken Soup for the Soul series!

Chicken Soup For The Girl's Soul

By Jack Canfield
350pp.
HCI Chicken Soup. $11.96
ISBN-13: 9780757303135

Chicken Soup has done it again. This book, Chicken Soup For The Girl's Soul is full of true-life experiences of girls around the nation. The book covers topics such as relationships, friendship, family, love and kindness and tough stuff.

All

of the stories are understandable and full of emotion whether it's humor, or sorrow. Each story is motivating. inspiring and humorous.

I

saw this book at a book fair in 6th grade and decided to buy it after reading other Chicken Soup books such as Chicken Soup For The Teenage Soul. I loved the stories in this book, especially the humorous ones. The ones about death and more serious issues were very deep and full of emotion. Sometimes I would want to just skip those stories because I knew they might be too sad but they were all great stories.

I

recommend this book to all girls between the ages of 10 and 15. I think they'd love it! <3

1- a book recommended by a family member.
2- Because it helped me realise that whenever im going through a bad stage in my life, i can always think to my self how lucky i feeling am compared to other girls. It keeps my mind set on that we all go through sad, emotional, heart-breaking phrases in life.
3- i liked how the stories were from real life girls, not just made up. How it explains the situation hey were in and how they learn't their lesson and came out strong young woman.
4- i didn't like how there was only a short amount of stories in each topic/subject. it could've been improved by adding 5 more stories to each subject/topic. It has definately been eye-opening and i will most likely go out and buy the other chicken soup books!
5- I would recommend this book to every young woman/teenage girl who is suffering from heartache to family problems and illnesses. This book would definately help in a girls life to keep her strong and high headed like every girl should be! :) amazing.

There are some really good stories in this book. For example this girl had a "soul sister" and they were hardly seperated until the girl went on vaction to another island on Hawaii and herd that there had been an acident. She thought it was her dad but it was really either her "soul sister", and her two sisters. It was her "soul sister" and one of her twin sister who died. It was really sad but she has lived through it and even though it is hard she knows that her soul sister is watcing. She even wrote a poem for her. She misses her but she is getting through it. The lesson I got from this story is that even though her best friend is gone and her little sister you have to enjoy the times you have with you bffs because "you never know when God is going to take them home" That is the last sentance of the story.

i have always loved all the chicken soup books because they are about reall people and real experinces. my favorite story was about this girl named michelle that was being bullied by these three girls who really did not care that they were hurting her so they kept on. the girl became sofed up with it that she comitted suicide and even after her death the bullies still didnt care. these stories are good for anyone but i think that they particularly target girls because girls are more judgmental of one another than anyone else, because we are always trying to be better than each other and in the process we do what ever it takes to make our selves feel better.

I recommend this to young girls. I know that this book made me laugh, cry, think, and more. It says that there are girls out there just like you. Girls deal with the same problems in everyday life. Some of us are fortunate and some arent. This story lets me think about a lot of things like, love, friendship, family, and boys, and school-related problems.

I say that if you are down or embarrassed, or humiliated, you need to read this book. There are some funny stories, sad stories, and some heartwarming stories. I recommend this book to any girl who has a life.

This book would definitely be a book for girls as you can tell by the title. I would still recommend this book to teenagers or tweens from 7th grade and up, who understand the stages of maturity and puberty. You will read about family issues to secret crushes. If you would like to know more about girls stories about that, or find somebody that's going through the same thing as you. I would suggest you read Chicken Soup for the Girl's Soul: Real Stories by Real Girls about Real Stuff by Jack Canfield.

The comics are funny, too. It may give you a smile, perhaps, as it did me, and the sayings before each little story are something to read, as well. They are inspiring, which I've found out.
This book gives out wonderful advice, and yeah. It's a great book, and I highly recommend it to every girl.

This book is great with many stories of girls growing up, facing acne, boys, puberty, friends, enemies , family problems, and much more. The proverb behind this whole collection of stories is that everyone has to grow up,life doesn't wait for anyone and things do happen, bad and good, but you have to learn to forgive and forget.

From reading this book, I learned that growing up isnt such a bad thing nor a good. It is just something that will happen. You cant put a time on it. It wont always happen when you specificly want it to. And most of all you cant make it happen, or stop it from happening. You just have to trust that one day, it will eventually just Happen.
