This book wasn't what I wanted it to be.
When I see the words "how to draw" in a book title, I assume that it's beginner friendly. Because you know, it's going to teach you how to draw something. This is not that book. It's not very good for beginners; it assumes you already have preexisting artistic talent. Which I mean, I can draw more than stick figures, but I'm certainly no artist. This is a book that is good for those looking to shift their drawing style tattoos, or to those looking to hone their talents.
So, this book was not what I was anticipating.
It was interesting learning some historical facts and stories, but I have no use for this book further than that.
If you're already good at drawing, then I'm sure you'll find this book far more useful. If you're looking for something more beginner, this isn't it. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.

This amazing book, with well over two hundred pages, contains projects by real tattoo artists as well as information on the history of tattoos, guidance on the drawing basics, classic and alternative styles of tattoo and a gallery of examples. It contains lots of historical facts and step by step guidance on how to draw a wide range of tattoo designs. There are even pages giving suggestions for websites and other books to look at to find more examples, inspiration and information about tattoos and tattoo art.
This is a great guide and one that may help inspire people to have a go at designing and drawing their own tattoo style art - who knows, it could inspire someone to become a tattoo design artists! You don’t need to be an artist or to want a tattoo to appreciate the examples and guidance given in this book which is also an interesting read. I learnt a lot from it about the global history of tattoos and had fun having a go at my own designs, too.

I had the opportunity to review this through netgalley. As always, this is my honest opinion.
I think this is a great book for beginners to this art style. It has a lot of history and facts throughout the book that discusses different tattoo styles. I was happy with this added dimension in the book. There are many photos, which is great for an art book, especially a how-to book. The tutorials which are clear and easy to understand.
I wouldn't really recommend this for people who already know about this art style or who have experience. This seems more focused on beginners, in my opinion. i would recommend it for someone less knowledgeable in the subject.

This book is a very interesting coffee table read. It breaks the technique down well I think. I am personal not very artistic, and the only art I could ever do was the geometric art, like in the children’s books that teach you how to draw your favorite cartoon characters by breaking them down into shapes. This book does that. It breaks it down so even the NON-ARTIST like myself can learn. Is this for a true artist type probably not, but for someone not very skilled to feel like they could do something that actually resembles what they were going for this is great.

A really lovely book - with history, origins, meanings, different styles and step-by-step process for a range of different designs.
