Suzy Turner wrote her first chick lit novel in her early twenties, but it wasn’t until much later that she decided to focus on writing full time. It was during a visit to Canada in 2009 when the ravens within the dark eerie forests of British Columbia called to her. The story of Lilly Taylor was born soon after and the first novel in The Raven Witch Saga was created. Suzy has since published numerous urban fantasy books, contemporary women's and cozy mystery novels.
Having lived in Portugal since childhood, Suzy, who is originally from Yorkshire in England, loves to travel. She finds inspiration wherever she goes. Old decrepit buildings, graveyards, cathedrals and castles are just a few of the things that can be found within the worlds of her urban fantasy books, and her contemporary women’s fiction novels are filled with fun friendships, ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances and quirky characters you’d want as friends.
Suzy lives in the Algarve with her husband, three cats and a dog, where she works on her bookcover design business—creating book covers for fellow authors. You can find out more at https://www.suzyturner.com/covers-by-...

Just before December’s 15th birthday she wishes for something to help alleviate something that gives her great angst and what she wishes for happens. She also has a dream. On the day of her 15th birthday life changes for her dramatically. Leaving her aunt Penelope behind, she journeys to Seattle with chauffeur Monty to live with her mother Moira and ghostly grandmother Ruby and discovers she is a witch, descended from a long line of respected witches.

December and Lilly have stayed in contact throughout the year they’ve been apart but now they both have a secret they’re unable to tell each other. That is until Lilly witnesses something horrific on her way to her aunt Rose’s home and from that time, December and Lilly’s lives become tangled with each other when the Elders and the community of witches join together to help rid the Powell River community of one of the oldest and most evil vampires – who is focussed on the one thing he wants and is causing utter destruction so that he can get it.

Until they meet, December Moon and Lilly’s lives are told by using alternating chapters. As each chapter ends, we are left wanting to know more (for instance leaving the reader on a question). The action and tension is building all the time so that half-way through, we have a major crises and the consequences of that causes major rumbles through the rest of the story. I have to say the action is totally gripping!

Raven is told in the first person from Lilly’s perspective and has a sombre tone as the foundations are made for the saga to continue. December Moon is told in the third person and lets us get to know some brilliant characters and experience the relationships that the other characters have. I really enjoyed the relationship Moira has with her own ghostly mother Ruby. I found this quite humorous. Despite the tenseness we also get to see December Moon and Lilly as young adults – the fun aspect of their relationship. We get to meet many of those who are living with the Elders in their community in the caves as we spend some time with them. The different style and pace of both suit exactly the needs of the characters and the storyline.

The character that I hoped would return does and wow, what a way to have a character re-entering a story!

You don’t have to read Raven to be able to understand December Moon – the author cleverly weaves the important information in at relevant times although with a trilogy, personally I like to read all the books!

One night, after midnight, I was still engrossed in December Moon but I was struggling to keep my eyes open … as soon as I could the next day I had to start reading again because the story just kept flashing into my mind.

We are left with a cliff-hanger – who is the lost soul whose presence has been felt by the girls? There’s still a little time to wait until we can find out as The Lost Soul (final part of The Raven Saga) is coming March 2012. I for one am waiting …

Again, although December Moon is a young adult novel, I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the supernatural and paranormal. There is much to absorb you as an adult!

Ebook Description
On her 15th birthday, December Moon discovers she is the descendant of a family of witches, kept in the dark her entire life in an effort to protect her. But when Lilly, her best friend, finds herself in danger from one of the world's most evil vampires, December will do everything in her power to stop him. December Moon is a fantasy novel for children and young adults set in BC, Canada.

Once again, the above blurb does not do this book ANY JUSTICE! I could not read book 1, Raven, fast enough. I think I may have read this one even FASTER!

Normally when you read a sequel, you expect a lot of back story and fill ins. NOT WITH THIS BOOK! This book is amazing. This was the first full book I read on my new Kindle. Author Suzy Turner has created an INCREDIBLE world where friends Lilly and December are two outcasts that find friendship in one another. In book 1, Raven, Lilly discovers a family she did not know she had and moves away from her only friend December. December is left to her own devices and misery. She is a very unhappy young lady and very miserable at her Aunt's house. The chain of events that happen on December's birthday change her life forever.

How does one react to turning 15 years old and finding out they are a powerful WITCH? December could not be more happy. She has her doubts of course because she went from an outcast 14 year old to a 15 year old witch with an incredible future. When December finds her way to her best friend, chaos and mayhem explode all around them and the two girls could not be happier. Fighting a most powerful vampire will test their friendship to the limits.

This book is full of amazing story lines. The characters are so well developed that you expect to meet them in the street. You can picture the scenery and smell the forest. You get so lost in the world that Suzy has created. The magic in the book is both supernatural and astonishing as the story plays out.

If you have not read Raven, please go download it NOW! and while you are there, download December Moon as you will REALLY want to read them back to back. You will be so glad you did. This is a wonderful escape into a supernatural world of wonder and excitement, tears and smiles, hugs, love and friends. I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting book 3. I am so excited to see where Author Suzy Turner takes us next!!

A minha aposta? O pai de Lilly, tendo em conta que a autora está a trabalhar no sentido de dar o maior número de finais felizes possíveis às personagens e essa é ainda uma ponta solta. Será que acerto?

*************

"December Moon" was the book I finished reading on 15th February, 2012. My opinion about this story is almost the same as the one I have about the first volume of the Raven Saga, so I rate it 4 stars.
It was nice to find that December was also connected to the world of the supernatural, putting an end to secrets between her and Lilly. The way the paths of both girls eventually crossed was interesting and very well done, so I congratulate the author.
Again, Suzy Turner refers to Portugal in her books. Is it ridiculous to say that I am proud every time I see my country portrayed in a story? Lol! Anyway, I was pleased with the mention of Portugal, Sintra, Lisbon, Seteais Palace, the fado music, and the sorcerer named Filipe Branco.
The story ended in a very intriguing way, with the mysterious male voice looming once again. Thankfully, the third volume comes out in March to know who it belongs to. My bet? Lilly's father, given that the author is trying to provide as many happy endings to the characters as possible, and this is still a loose end. Will I be correct?

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

December Moon(The Raven Saga)book 2 by Suzy Turner

I had just finished Raven by Suzy Turner and knew that I'd have to eventually revisit the world of Lilly Taylor aka Lillian Tulugaq. A universe where all imagined fantasy characters might exist- and possibly do. We certainly meet quite a variety.

The next day after I completed Raven I came home and my wife Virginia mentioned being three quarters of the way through a really interesting book. Of course it was Raven and I knew right away that I'd have to get the other two book. I did that immediately.

Then the race was on.

Virginia loves romance novels I am more partial to Science Fiction though I've been known to read the occasional fantasy. So that was one reason I had picked up Raven which turned out to be a fantasy - paranormal romance novel. Sometimes we find something which crosses both our paths and this series is one of those. Being a slightly slower reader than Virginia I attempted to get that extra quarter of the novel lead on her. I knew it was fruitless but it was fun and though she finished the second book a bit sooner than I I think we both thoroughly enjoyed it.

December Moon starts out with the beginning of a reveal about its namesake. Up until now December has been Lilly's normal best friend whom she's had to hid her secrets from despite thier closeness. Of Course in the world that Suzy Turner has made that's a condition that is about to change. In this universe the special people have to hide the secret from the normals to protect themselves and possibly even protect the normals.

Lilly is still trying to come to terms with her new life as a changeling or shape-changer. She's dealing with the loss of her boyfriend because of the necessity to keep secrets and other complications. She's still searching for her father who vanished last year. But, she does have her new-found family and she is in constant contact with her friend in England, December. She just has to angst about not being able to tell December anything about the truth of her family.

December has had a few strange things happen around her and is thinking she might be losing it a bit. She's just turning 15 and I'm not sure is that's a major mile-stone in England, but she's about to discover that her father has left her an inheritance and that she's now free to decide where she wants to live. She finds out the mother who abandoned her -didn't really abandon- and that she lives near Seattle Washington in the USA. And December and her faithful servant Monty are about to embark on an adventure to the Americas where she'll be a hop skip and jump from her best friend near Vancouver.

December is about to discover that she comes from a family of Witches. Her mother, grandmother and great-grand and so on have all been witches and December may likely end up being a powerful witch some day. But, she has to keep it a secret and that means she needs to keep it from her ordinary friend Lilly. This begins the narrative dance which Suzy is so good at. The reader gets a lot of reveals before the characters do so its fun to watch as they unnecessarily avoid issues because they think each other to be normal.

It's all about to change because a dangerous Vampire has been stalking the community that Lilly lives in and they have been calling in outside help. The witches of the Seattle are are about to be called in, which both thrills and mortifies December since her friend Lilly is there and she might be in danger and if she sees Lilly she won't be able to tell her the real reason she's there.

These books are all about the interconnection of this diverse group of paranormal people. The mess they get into while trying to blend in as normal and the dangers they face constantly when they have to face the evil half of their own people.

The excitement and tension and danger ramp up a bit more than the last book. There is still plenty of paranormal romance to go around with the cast of the original novel and a whole couple handful of new players.

This has a few threads carried over from the previous novel and some that will carry into the next. The story is well rounded and ends with the definite indication that there is at least one more book to follow.

Once again this is for lovers of Horror-Paranormal Romance and fantasy books.

Now quickly onto The Lost Soul -final novel of Raven Saga Trilogy. The race is not yet finished.

What a wonderful story.
Beautifully written with enough action, mystery and romance to keep me reading. I know this is a series aimed at young teens so expect the "Disney-esque" emotions & neatness. Yes this is the middle book in this trilogy but the Happily Ever After feelings once again end this part.

Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. In “December Moon”, the second book in the Raven Saga, Suzy Turner once again transports the reader into the exciting world of the supernatural. The latest installment in this series, takes the reader on an adventure in which December learns how to use her talent in order to protect her friend; and interesting new characters - both good and bad – are introduced. If you’ve read “Raven”, the first book in this series, you will feel as though you are rejoining old and well loved friends in this second book.

Although there’s lots of action and adventure in the story, the pace is comfortable enough so as to give the reader ample time to savor every moment. I also thought the characters to be very realistic and well defined. Moments of suspense and intensity are expertly balanced by easy-going scenes and enough humor to relax the tension.

As in “Raven”, I was again touched by the warmth and love with which Lily's family and friends accepted December and her family into their midst. Nothing however is always just perfect blue skies, so there are also some truly sad moments, which will bring tears to your eyes. I found myself completely absorbed in the story, experiencing joy, fear and sadness along with the characters. If you enjoyed reading “Raven”, you will absolutely love “December Moon”. It is more than a worthwhile read! (Ellen Fritz)

A wonderful followup to Raven. This book centers on Raven's best friend from school, whom she had to leave in the first book, December. Both girls are odd and had found fast friendship in each other and in this book we find out why--they both have very special gifts. I love this author's writing and the friendship between these two young teens is so special. It's nice to read a book where there's no bullying and people genuinely like each other and are kind to each other (besides the bad guys, of course!). As an adult reading the book, it was a bit slow for me, but I believe young teens would become hooked right away. The adults in this book treat them as their equals. They are in the fight, right next to the older characters, doing what only they can do with their special abilities. There is also some light romance, which is just right for the young teens which is another thing that the adults in the book take seriously. As I said, I think this is just what a young teen girl is looking for in a book: action, thrills and chills, mystery, magic, romance, and the kids are treated as adults--which is something that doesn't happen in most books. Another wonderful book from Suzy Turner.

As a 2nd book to this series, it was great! It is more on December, as title indicates. Coincidental occurrences are happening to her, sort of like wishful thinking, but they are actually rea; beginning on her 15th bday. She is told the truth of what she is and is reunited with her mom, who explains to her where they come from and why she had to leave her with her aunt Penelope when she was just a toddler. While in Powell River there's been attacks on innocent residents by an evil vamp, and Lily and her family are trying to figure out who's behind them. Once they figure that out, they all, & I mean ALL band together to stop the murderer before anymore deaths ensue at his hand; strength in numbers! I like that they all helped each other like family and friends should. They got the murderer, but lost lives of some friends & family members. Glad Oliver forgave Lilly & is back in her life - no secrets between them anymore. Lilly hasnt given up hope on her 'missing' dad, & I havent either. Looking forward to the next.

Watch as December and Lilly are re-united again. Too bad it wasn't on different terms!! Former best friends find out they have both been hiding a very important secret, Lilly is a changeling and December is a witch and they will have to rely on one another more than ever.

Time is running out for Lilly as evil vampire is adamant Lilly is his mate. To survive she will need the forgiveness of the boy she never stopped loving, Oliver, she will need to tell his older brother everything, forget any guilt she has about her father, and stay focused no matter how many surprises are thrown her way... I can assure you, there are many.

She seems to be spending more and more time with the elders but will there come a time when she needs to step out from behind them and save the ones she loves instead of the other way round. This is the kind of book that leaves you hoping everyone will be OK.

The story behind December Moon, Lilly's best friend, upon reaching the age of 15, she found out she's a witch and that her mother kept her in the dark on purpose. And without knowing, she's off to help Lilly fights a most dangerous vampire!

Again, the story is at times confusing and boring.... I can't tell who's narrative it was since it switches from Lilly to December and there was even one that I noticed that it was supposedly December's narrative but it was written Lilly instead.

This time I'd say it's more YA... and there is a lot of action in this book that I enjoyed... there is humour, drama and suspense... and new characters are introduced.

Written on both December and Lilly's POV.

The second book of the Raven Saga, December Moon by Suzy Turner is further proof of this author's talents.
In the first book, we are introduced to Lilly and December, how they met, their friendship, and their eventual separation. December Moon explores all the emotions a teenage girl experiences after being separated from her one and only best friend, and how she must cope with all of life's surprises on her own.
True to the fantasy genre, there are plenty of supernatural beings, magic, and adventure. All of these woven into a very entertaining and well written story. I would recommend this book to young and old alike.

I liked this 2nd book even better than the 1st.

The 2nd book in the "Raven" series.
In this book you learn more about December Moon the best friend of Lily. December turns 15 and learns the reasons behind her mother abandoning her and why she needed to live with her money hungry Aunt. December finds that she is a very powerful witch from a long line of witches. December also learns that the evil vampire that is terrorizing her friend Lily's family is the same one that once terrorized her own. Soon the two friends are reunited to defend their families against him.
I can't wait for the 3rd in the series

Loved the first book but I recently re-read it and found a lot of problems. Reading the second book, December Moon, I hoped the dialogue between the characters improved. December and Lily, and pretty much everyone around their age, don't speak like a teenagers. Also, on the other spectrum, Ruby's dialogue is very similar to someone of December and Lily's age group. I don't understand how the author didn't notice this at all, which was why I took 2 stars off the book rating.

Although the character development didn't improve I liked the plot line to a degree but I wish it would have been edited a tad bit more.

Overall a good book, and would recommend it.

Won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

Although I haven't read the first book in this series, I could understand perfectly well what was going on. Which is a huge plus.

It was a bit strange for me that there could be so many breeds and hybrids.
I think the book is intended for children between the ages 12-16.
It was nice enough, but I'm looking for something a little more. More interesting, more gripping, more mature.
But a girl between the ages 12-15 could definitely enjoy the book.
Also, the ending was pretty cool. ;)

Love love loved it! December Moon is book 2 in the Raven Saga and it exceeded all my expectations. Suzy Turner is a fantastic YA author who can tell a wonderful story. I loved the alternating chapters for Lilly and December and was absorbed in both their lives. The author weaves multiple plot lines and characters with ease and keeps the tension up throughout. Bravo, Suzy Turner. I can't WAIT for book 3. There is a book 3 isn't there?!!!!

Once again, extremely predictable. The characters had a bit more substance in this book, but I found allot if it repetitive. Like the first, I would recommend this to a young adult (like in the description), but for the more weathered readers, no. It took all I had to finish this book...I found myself bored often, and rolling my eyes allot at end of most chapters. Guess I'm just a bit to old to enjoy books like this anymore.

Loved this book!

I'm sooo glad December & Lilly are finally back together and they no longer have to secrets from one another.

I am thrilled that Lily & Oliver have gotten over the hurlde they come against when Oliver found out she could morph into a mountain lion in the 1st book.

I do hope that Lily manages to find out what happend to her dad.

I've just bought the 3rd book and i'm on a mission to complete this :)

Firstly, thanks so so much to Suzy Turner for a copy of this book which I won in my first ever Goodreads giveaway! I loved the synopsis so thought I'd try my luck. I enjoyed the book so much that I've now read it twice since it was listed for giveaway a few years ago.

The book starts the day before December Moon's 15th birthday and something's up at school- the class is in the gym when suddenly the room floods with water, drowning everyone except her. Interesting start . We also are witness to a Messenger conversation between December and her friend Lilly Tulugaq- who has a surname which actually means Raven- she has the power to transform into a feline, namely a glossy, black mountain lion. We learn that Rose, her grandmother, is one of only two other feline/human changelings. The book is set in British Columbia (Canada). Lilly now lives there and December lives in the Battersea power station area of London.

The beginning of the book threw me into the plot. I automatically liked December Moon and also her friend Lily. The plot and characters were so vivid I really felt like I were there in the story and not just reading it.

There's lots of action and we also learn a lot about December and Lily's personal lives. There are so many layers to the story as well as plot twists and turn. The book really keeps you guessing and most chapters end with cliffhangers or pose a question to the reader. This made me more eager to see what was coming next.

The book conjures up all sorts of emotions for me: rooting for December and Lily, feeling December's loneliness as she misses Lily and the reminiscence of being thrown back into teenage years.
In fact, the story reminded me a lot of The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer (a paranormal series I'm mad about).

Suzy Turner's writing has that level of sophistication that is such that it has me hooked from beginning to end. The book had me heading to Amazon straight after I'd finished it to download the previous and last books in The Raven Saga. A complete must-read for fans of The Twilight Saga!

I'll definitely be reading more by Suzy Turner.
