Annoyed by his little brother's screaming, Benny runs off with the baby's pacifier, only to meet a group of bullies who say he is too big to have a pacifier.

LOVE, love, love this precious story of a new big brother that doesn't like that he is no longer supposed to have his 'chupon' and it's been handed down to his new sibling. Humorous, adorable, and true to the nature of those beloved children we all know LOVE their chupons!!! It's a must read for any chupe babies! I have one I know! :)
I don't usually review children's literature on Goodreads, but this story is delightful. The illustrations are so fun and the story is so simple. I love picture books that can make you laugh out loud with a clever picture and a simple sentance. e.g. 'The binky is good...' I'm really dissapointed it's out of print. Every new copy is over 200$ to purchase!
I just wish we had more stars here to give some books. This special picturebook is just one of those towering ones. I couldn't help but laugh.. Some of the illustrations are just amazing. What mom says at the end also adds to the value of the book. Thanks Barbro and your team.
Suloinen kirja, jossa käsitellään hauskalla tavalla sisaruskateutta.
Benny is jealous of his newborn baby brother who gets to suck on a binky when he is frustrated and bored. Benny longs to have one of his own. So he figures out a way to get one. He takes his brother outside and then gives his kid brother his stuffed animal while he runs away with the binky. Things don't turn out so well. Bigger kids bully him and make him realize he is a big kid too, too big for a binky.
I liked the art very much, and the story resonates about the younger brother, but something about him taking him outside and bringing him back with no repercussions did not strike true.
This is an interesting children's tale centered on the kind of jealousy an older child can experience upon the arrival of a newborn. This is probably familiar to any parent who has had more than one child, when the older one basically reverts back to some behaviors they had as an infant: wanting a security blanket, no longer using the potty, wanting a bottle, etc.
Benny has the unfortunate experience of finding out that wanting his new brother's binky can make him the object of ridicule when he takes his brother's binky and runs away, illustrating that growing up and acting one's age is not so bad after all.
This was a cute book. I enjoyed the illustrations in this story and the writing was alright too. I was kinda concerned about the central message of this story. I was wondering if it basically said to not do bad things because bad things will happen to you? Non the less it was a decent read.
I love all the Benny books and was glad to have an excuse to share one during our "Pig-tastic" themed story time. Many children attending our story times are familiar with having a baby in the house. This story begins...
"Benny has a brother now. He wanted one. And then he got one."
When the baby cries he gets a binky. Benny announces he wants a binky but is told he is too big for a binky. By afternoon Benny is tired of the baby and desperately wants a binky.
Believe it or not, Barbro Lindgren squeezes adventure, bullies, running away, friendship, and commendation into this hilariously relatable story.
Benny gets a new little pig brother who loves his binky. Benny wants a binky too, but his mom says that he is too old for a binky. Benny decides to take his little brother's binky and runs away. While he is running around town he runs into a group of mean kids that punch him in the snout and take his binky away. Luckily a big dog came by just in time and made the mean kids give his binky back. Then Benny hears his little brother crying for his binky and rushes home to give it back.
This would be a fun pig story for a pig themed story time. This would also be a good book for parents to read to children when it is time for them to give up their binky.
I love the picture of Benny running away when he first swipes the binky. You can practically hear his triumphant "Heh Heh heh!" Yay for allies with sharp teeth! Take that, bullies!
This is a great book to read to students that have or are getting a new baby sibling. They would really identify with Benny. It's also a very easy read with great illustrations.
