I read this from cover to cover as a means to study for the Network+ exam. While I did not pass the test (I was somewhat close), I really think this is a good book to read if you want to study this particular subject. I learned a lot and experienced several moments of clarity. Unlike some instructional/study texts, Michael Meyers does not talk down to the reader or attempt to explain something as he would a five-year-old child. That is a definite plus for me.

Great book. Easy to read and understand. He made me understand in seconds concepts that my old teacher simply could not explain properly. Oh, and I got 880/900 on the exam!

The cornball humor is pretty accidentally hilarious, but I resent Meyers' assumption that everyone reading this is a nerd who plays mmorpgs. For that reason, two stars. Also, because this is 1100+ pages and of course soul-crushingly boring to read. But I passed my test, so it gets more than one star. And if you need someone to convert binary to dotted decimal for you, I am now your guy.

Too many examples used mainly for fluff. I suspect he's the Charles Dickens of CyberSec, getting paid by the word. Overall good book, though.

I wouldn't trust a certification book to be easy to digest, but this one was a really positive surprise. I wanted to reinforce my network skills and this book gets the job done.

Most certification related books are dry as coprolite. Sometimes you just want drop those books in a steel wastebin, douse them in gasoline and drop in a match.

Mike's books and videos however do not elicit the same feels. He always brings a little levity to the table and takes the same approach with his videos so you can hop between book and screen with ease.

Excellent description of Network+ objectives. Book is fun and easy to read.
Only drawback was that the software only has 50 questions. The two tests just shuffle the same questions. I had to study the in-book questions a lot, rather than just relying on the software engine.

I'm pre-emptively giving this book 5 stars (I've not yet taken the exam) because it was just so easy to get through and digest. Unlike many other exam guide and practice books, this one was kind of enjoyable to read. It didn't feel like a chore. Plus, the questions at the end of each section really illustrated to me that I was, to some degree, retaining what I was reading.

There were a lot of analogies and explanations that I found quite useful and helpful. Right after I finished this book, I started reading another Net+ book, the latest Exam Cram, because I like to be over-prepared. I'm only a couple of chapters in, and I already miss this book and how easily I could take it in. I will definitely be using these books for future exams.

I combined this with Professor Messer's online video course, and managed to pass the Net+ exam with both together. The book doesn't provide a huge amount more detail than you can get online for free, but is mostly useful if you learn more from reading rather than listening, like I do. Meyers does cover all the stuff you'll need to know for the exam, and does put in a few amusing asides about his real life experiences in the field, which can make the book a little more entertaining in parts.

The end of chapter questions aren't really in the style of CompTIA exams, so I'd recommend a separate practice exam rather than relying on the book. But the info is contains is pretty useful.

I switched back-and-forth between reading this and listening to his Udemy course. The chapters line up which makes that convenient.
The book has more detail than the course.

This is a useful and practical guide to how networks work. I knew 90% of it already. But if (like me) you have learnt ad hoc, then you don't know what you don't know. So a book like this, based on a comprehensive syllabus, fills in the gaps quite satisfyingly.

Obviously it's aimed at someone taking the exam, which I'm not doing. But it would work well if you were. He is at great pains to point out how each bit of information he gives would translate in to an exam question.

Mike Meyers makes complicated professional tech talk very accessible, and makes it much easier to learn everything he teaches by putting it into practical terms.
Trying to cram to pass the Net+ exam over the course of maybe 4 weeks was nightmarish, and having to read this whole book for it didn't help, but he makes learning stuff like this tolerable.

I took the N10-009 exam and got 835/900 using only this and flashcards for ports/protocols. Can't have a better review than that, even for a slightly outdated guide. They do a great job breaking down concepts with lots of visuals. Most of it I read on my kindle--it was even entertaining, for what it is. Highly recommended.

I don’t always rate books, but when I do, they are definitely worth reading. Amazing book, easy to read and understand to people new to networking. I would recommend it to anyone starting in networking industry or preparing for Network+ certification.
