Rodd Racer

Rate this book
In a crowded futuristic city controlled by gangsters, the Thunder Alley Rally is the biggest racing event of a generation. The city's greatest racers battle across the concrete jungle, through chasms of wet neon city streets for fame, glory, and sacrifice...But one racer races for much more. Rodd Racer races for revenge while the city's deadliest killers chase him. Greatness has a price.

An effective and playful genre piece, combining racing and sci-fi and gladiator movies and noir. It's all forward momentum, something that the art communicates with great dexterity. The action is never boring, that's for sure. A bit of a slight diversion, but perfect for when that is what you are looking for.

A standard pulp situation and characters, but told with pace and abandon through Cypress's lush, layered, and kinetically communicative artwork.

A showcase for Cypress' art, which is stylistically perfect for this passion project: full of life and motion.

A fun fast read set in a 30's pulp world where death racing is big entertainment. Filled with your usual cliched characters, this doesn't stop this graphic novel from working as smoothly as Rodd Racer's suped-up engine. Especially enjoyed Toby Cypress' artwork!

The art is outstanding. A mixture of Tony Salmons and Hugo Pratt. Very enjoyable book.
