Highly recommend. There's a lot to discuss with what this book covers. The author makes a point in the last few pages on censorship. "I conclude with an event in 1960 which had wide cultural and literary implications. English writers had long been hampered by the laws relating to obscenity, which meant that common human actions could not be described, and common words could not be printed…….Eventually, after much pressure from informed public opinion, the law was changed to admit a plea of ...more
