Thawing Ava

Rate this book
Hockey player Brice Douglas has never gotten over the Christmas he spent with Ava Johnson back in college. Now, years later, he’s in trouble with his team the Witch Field Prowlers. Desperate to keep their rabble-rousing player’s head in the game, they hire a babysitter to keep his ass out of a sling and home in his bed at night; Ava. He’s determined to make up for lost time and convince her he’s not the man the team has made him out to be—using every, dirty, sexy trick he can.

Ava just got out of a relationship with a cheating fiancé. She needs time to rebuild her life, and babysitting her old college crush maybe the answer to her prayers—so long as sex isn’t involved. Yet, with his sexy, nightly self-pleasuring sessions and dirty talk her resistance quickly starts wearing thin. With every day that passes, she’s growing more comfortable with him and his desire for her.
Will she be putting Brice on ice, or will he end up thawing Ava?

Dear Reader,

In a man’s letters his soul lies naked.
- Samuel Johnson

“I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.”- Dalai Lama

I/R Author, Selena Illyria was born with need to write and an over active imagination. She loves to write stories featuring futuristic cities that can only be imagined, visit island kingdoms of vampire/dragons, giggle with mischievous pixies, peek in on faeries looking for their mates, check in on the naughty staff of an exclusive academy, and sigh over how in love a powerful business exec is with his wife. She can’t wait to write stories with her talented, creative and wonderful CPs Celia Kyle begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlighting and Shara Cooper. And when she’s not writing, she loves to read many different genres of books. She also loves to watch some of her favorite movies (too many to be named) and televisions shows. She also, loves to listen to some of her favorite musical artists. All of these things help inspire her to write. She does believe in the quote above. She does believe that part of writing does bare a part of the soul.

I don’t see it.

Ava has returned home at the request of her father. She needed to take some time off after her engagement was called off. Upon her arrival, she discovers they have entrusted her with babysitting Brice Douglas, who also is her college crush. During Christmas break, something seemed to have sparked between them, but due to a lack of communication, they missed their chance. Will this be their opportunity to rekindle what could have been?

Overall, this story doesn’t rise above two stars for me, and here’s why. The fantasy sequence is confusing. Brice and Ava have nothing on their minds sprinkled a lot through this story. I am beginning to dislike stories with kink or BDSM elements because people are not doing the required research on how this lifestyle should be written or portrayed in books. The scenes between Brice and Ava were not well-developed enough to offer a smooth delivery of play. The storyline from my perspective is very underdeveloped as well.

Disclaimer: I got this book for free on Kindle. I participated in stuff your kindle day where I got a bunch of romance books for free, roughly 2,000 books. I normally do not read romance books but I wanted to try the genre. I typically read fantasy, science fiction, biographies, and classics so this is way out of my comfort zone. My plan is to draw a book at random without reading the summary, title, and avoiding looking at the cover. As long as the book is not too graphic for me or leads into something uncomfortable, I will be attempting to finish as many of these books as I can in 2024. I understand that many of these books will likely not be top tier but I am hoping that I can learn something about the romance genre as a whole and figure out if any types of books in this genre are for me.

My Review: I didn't really have hope for this one going in. Turns out I like sports. Romance in sports works for me who would have known. Still not a great book but better than the other recents.

This is not a romance. Romance genre tells a tale of 2 (or more) people’s story of finding love together. This just told a story of 2 people and the drama that surrounds them.
There was a clear outline of how the author wanted this book to go. But the ability to flow the story together was lacking making this a very cringy book.
It was very obvious there were certain phrases and words they wanted to use
Not a fan 😒

who was it thawing?

The title is very misleading. There was no thawing of Ava. Ava was a well put together human who was neglected sexually by her ex-fiancé. There wasn’t much thawing required of Brice. It is mentioned as a hockey romance, but it was more focused on the “romance” as such. No storyline or plot really to follow. I struggled to finish the story

Good but a little on the "vanilla" side

It was good, but there were a few parts that felt like they didnt make sense. Like all of the fondling, especially when Ava was so adamant about her BDSM interest and there really was only one "scene" that it occurred.... good story line though.

This had a lot of potential but I feel like it could have been fleshed out a bit more.

Great read

Loved Ava and Brice's story. They both deserved true love and happiness. Great writing and interesting story that kept me enthralled.
