3rd grader tested & approved!
The illustrations are fun and cartoonish with a lot of kid-appeal. I found these joke books (a part of the Laugh-Out-Loud series) in the Poetry section of a Children's library. Thumbing through the pages I thought the joke books might actually be a good way to introduce word play, homonyms & homophones, or even memorable ways of differentiating common confusions in reading literacy. For example:
Where do werewolves live?
> In warehouses.
Or...
Why don't skeletons sing church music?
> They have no organs.
I thought the good ones were quite good and elicited a few smiles & giggles. The others were good reading warm-ups about topics children might be interested. Hysterical History is another book in the series that is a little bit of fun, especially regarding word play. Although not really "informative" the book does introduce the student to some big name historical figures to keep an eye out for in a humorous & memorable way.
