Lawrence McDowell has already fought to save Black Bird. Now, he had to fight to stay.

Lawrence McDowell does not recognize his life. He's living in a thirdhand apartment teaching Magic 101 to a Pack of wolves at the community center, and he's a member of a Coven. Weirdly enough, he doesn't hate it. In fact, there are some major upsides to living in Black Bird.

One of them is the ward, a protective barrier that surrounds the territory. It currently keeps all of Black Bird's enemies from crossing the boundary. It is a unique magical feat that he helped create. He's pretty proud of it.

Unfortunately, not everyone is grateful for it. Someone is upset enough about the new feature to throw a magical Molotov cocktail into his new apartment. Luckily, his next-door neighbor manages to save his life. Considering she is a Pierce, he half expected her to let him burn. It may go against every he's experienced, but something deep inside keeps telling him he can trust her.

Julie Pierce has struggled to fit in her whole life. Now that she's found somewhere she belongs, she will fight for it.

Julie Pierce does not get invited to very many girls' nights out. She doesn't have a boyfriend. Heck, not many people stop to chat on the street. She doesn't take it personally. People are polite. They just don't want to spend too much time with her in case they accidentally draw her grandma's attention. No one wants Pearl Pierce looking too closely at them. They're not overacting. Her grandma can be downright vindictive. She tries to make up for it by being kind and helpful.

Which is what got her into trouble with her neighbor. She should have ignored the guy, but now, she just had to go out of her way and be helpful. Well, now she's more involved than she ever imagined because she has just been assigned as Lawrence McDowell's bodyguard. Grandma is going to be so mad.

It might be worth it because no one has ever looked at her the way Lawrence McDowell has

I am a writer from Seattle. Growing up in the woods listening to stories about ghosts, monsters and myths I learned to love the things that go bump in the night. I currently live in the South where there are a lot of haunted hunts to investigate. My overactive imagination makes for fun writing.

Come for the romance and action. Stay because the Black Bird Coven is catty.

This was great. I loved getting to know Lawrence. He was snarky and vulnerable. It was cool seeing him turn into someone who cares about others and wants to help for the right reasons.

Julie. Oh Julie. What did you do to deserve Pearl as a grandma? Nothing. I think if I talk much about Julie I’ll end up giving away BIG SPOILERS but I loved seeing her grow confident and kick butt.

But of course my favorite scenes were with the old ladies in the Black Bird Coven. They are always hilarious.

Give it a read!!!

love love loved it!!

I have read this series and so far this is the best one yet. The story line was great.

I only took one star away (it would be 1/2 of I could do that) but these books need to be edited better. There was a lot of typos and miss used words. Besides that the books was fantastic.

Unlike the first 2 books in the series I was actually able to finish this one. Julie and Lawrence worked well together as love interests and the issue they had felt way more believable than the issues with the other couples. Lawrence also did the best job repairing the relationship in my opinion. Even though I had not completely read the first 2 books this one did not leave me lost or confused about the finer details of the plot which was nice. This book showcased more of the coven and that was enjoyable as they were some of my favorite characters in the last book. This one felt more balanced than the others somehow. The spice didn't really work for me but that might just be the mood I am in at the moment. There was only 1 spicy scene so I just skimmed it; nothing to drop the book over or anything. Really there were only 2 downsides to this book.

1. The people who live in this town are still ridiculous bigots. They shun Grace because of her family, they shun Ivy and Lawrence because they are magic users and a bunch of them are shitty to Julie because her grandmother is a terrible person. That cop writes her bogus tickets like an asshole and no one cares about it. The citizens aren't very smart either since they had a whole family hybrids living in their town for generations and no one noticed.
2. Shelby. Apparently the teenagers in this universe are infuriating for me. There really isn't anything particularly objectionable about them. I just don't like the focus on them in this series.

The way this one ended it would seem there is at least one more book in this series planned. I look forward to reading it if/when it comes out.

I think this is my favorite book of the series for now, Lawrence is definitely an interesting and intriguing character, finally let's put a stop to Pearl even if honestly a public humiliation wouldn't have been bad, considering how all the other village elders are too been extremely harmful in the lives of all the protagonists from the first book to now

disappointed

this series started well, but as it went on the characters and the plot didn't mesh up. The main characters from previous books just disappear and other characters that seemed important in earlier books are non existent, just no real connections.

I love this series

I hope and pray the next book doesn't take as long to come out as this book did. But that is for selfish reasons. 🤪 I reread the first two often because I love them. Happy I have a third to add to the list. And I find out there is a sci-fi series. 😃
