Icarus Rising: Book Three of the Phoenix Cycle

Rate this book
The last six months have been good to Jericho.

In that time, he restored peace in Flagstaff and Anchorage, stopped almost all war efforts by three different factions in North America, saved thousands of people, unified the Rogues and Rebels, and landed a hot girlfriend with blue hair.

Armed with his new abilities, Jericho has been diligently following his Crusade, the predetermined path set before all who bear the title of Paladin and the very quest to save the entire planet.

So, no big deal.

But when a being more powerful makes an appearance, halting his progress with grave ramifications, the preordained continuity laid out for him is now threatened as Jericho and his gang of fellow freedom fighters must band together to face the unknown enemy in a mad battle for the frozen world.

5 stars all the way Mr. Doyle. I did find book 3 a little slower than the first 2 but he packed a lot into this volume. I’m so happy Sloan’s character played such a big part in the story but what happened to Miles? His part was just left hanging? And I’m glad Jericho found a cure for Blu, and Piper, so sad! I’m sure Jericho will make Icarus pay for that in Book 4!!!!!

To be fair, I'm not taking any starts off for errors throughout the book a publishing company may have caught. This series is amazing. And the bravery and ambition needed to write, edit, and self-publish a 4 book series on your own it top tier. Well Done John. I cheer at high decimals for you ;) Thanks for the dedication in book 4 <3

The book:

Jericho Johnston tells a story exactly the same way my adhd ass does. Every semi-important detail is included; and some vaguely relabent ones. It's fitting since the premise of each book is the rudio record of each step in his crusade. Even with all of the evidence available to Jericho, I still get surprised by the plot regularly. It feels like I experience each moment as he does and makes for an amazing journey.

The characters, technology, and politics are described well enough to get involved and attached.

I was mad when John killed Chloe in the 1st book. When Piper died, I stopped reading and cried

I think this is the best of the 3 so far. The author is coming more into his stride. It’s interesting having an arch nemesis added to the series. Really, it’s gone a whole different direction than it started in book 1. I like Wolf. Giving Blu power at the end was kind of cheesy. I still think it would be better if these were not treated as logs found later. I’m kind of disappointed William was just a program. I guess the is, where will the feud with Icarus take us in the next book, and why is Sloan built up to be so important?

WOW

I didn't think that this series could get any better but John G Doyle has excelled himself. This book is so fast paced and I was gripped with every page. The storytelling is excellent and having followed John on tiktok, I was only able to hear his voice as the narrator which was Awesome. Can't believe I have to wait until August for the next book but I am sure it eill be worth the wait.

I'll just read the first chapter for now.... 4 cups of coffee and 4 1/2 hours later I NEED BOOK 4 PLEASE SIR. Back at it again with Jericho and his ever increasing bunch of lovable misfits off to save the world. Exceptionally written, the changing of perspectives really makes this book fly by. Doyle's superb character building makes you want to keep reading even when the main character isn't around for a bit. Just phenomenal all the way around!

Time Is Weird

I liked the bond between Jericho and his friends. I got a little tired of all the fighting. This is a very complicated story. I think it's worth following, but sometimes my head hurts while trying to sort it all out.

Amazingly!

I mean, it’s got to be made into a movie or series. It needs an enormous budget though. I can’t wait for book 4!

I wasn't sure where this series was going to go after book 2. I was completely unprepared for the antics Jericho and the gang would find themselves in and Mr. Doyle did not disappoint. I'll not spoil anything but the predicament in which our hero was sequestered from the rest of the band of misfits was an interesting touch. The framing device allowed us to see a bit into the mind of the otherwise superpowered entity and ground him a bit. It was refreshing. Blu's arc was torcher for me, worrying about her fate, but I was happily rewarded, giving me that glimmer of hope for a HEA I crave as a romance reader. Overall, well done! I can't wait for book 4!

Grabbed this book because I follow the author on TT with TAA (IYKYK). Got through the book (the entire series) rather fast. Found the protagonist to be cocky, sexist & misogynistic. If you’re a very PC type of person, stay away from these books.

As it’s a SciFi/Time Travel/Fantasy series, I thought “keep an open mind”. This book (the whole series actually) needs an editor. Several misspelled words or grammar issues. In one book (cannot remember which) at least half a sentence, if not more than that, is missing! Was unsure what happened, but pretty sure I didn’t miss too much.

I believe this is the author’s first stab at a (self) published work and commend him on his attempt.
