Goodbye politics! Goodbye stardom! Mayor Good Boy is turning over a new leaf and this time...he's going BAD! Maybe even...bad to the bone.
Mayor Good Boy might not be as GOOD as the town of Greenwood thought. In fact, it turns out that Abby and Aaron's favorite very good boy might actually have been...A BAD BOY this whole time?!
Everyone's favorite dog mayor is back in this hilarious graphic novel series featuring all-new hijinx and all-new fun!
" Mayor Good Boy will make you sit, stay, and roll over with laughter!" -- John Patrick Green, creator of the New York Times bestselling InvestiGators series
Thank you to this children's graphic novel series for the reminder that doing good is an actual choice we need to make, not something people just "are." I don't know if this is the planned ending (the previous books had covers for the sequels in the back), but this is a really sweet series as a whole that I honestly should've checked out sooner.
Very cute with a good, wholesome lesson. Not sure I can support the parents and all the “A” names though, lol. The cuteness of Mayor Good Boy’s family, especially the mom dog, may make up for it. :)
Don't get me wrong; this is a cute book and the ending made me cry a little. :..)
The beginning bit is rough, though. Like, I really don't understand why Abby is acting the way she is. It seems like something bigger than just being That Age (and, at least in the book, it isn't explained as her hitting puberty), and she had a bizarrely negative reaction to her parents
The middle part meanders a bit, too, but mostly because there's not much to the story: Mayor Good Boy (and "Good Boy" is confirmed to be his actual name, not just a descriptor) is acting strangely, and an Evil Mayor Good Boy* rampages through town. They discover the two are related (siblings, in fact), and all is made well when . Then everybody is family, and the newest family member arrives and joins BOTH families! HOORAY HAPPY END
It's a good story! I just don't like it quite as much as the firsttwo, though I would happily buy another copy for a young reader who wants one!
*named Bad Boy by their not particularly thoughtful mother dog, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that I expect is hard to live down
Edit: I didn't review the first two?? WHY DIDN'T I REVIEW THE FIRST TWO?? Now I have to get more copies!! (handed mine out to free libraries)
In this, the third in a popular series that has clearly gone to the dogs, a case of mistaken identity leads to trouble for everyone's favorite furry mayor. A surprise visit from Mayor Good Dog's Bad Dog brother causes the citizens of Greenwood to second guess their town leadership. As for MGD, this unexpected arrival prompts some reflection and atonement for a childhood mistake that changed everything. Meanwhile, Abby's dealing with confusing emotions, including a lot of anger, due to the secrecy she notices in her parents. There's plenty of humor on almost every page but also some good life messages. Fans of the series will certainly want to read this one. For those unfamiliar with the series, reading the previous titles will bring them up to speed. The artwork effectively captures the personalities of the canine and human characters.
Mayor Good Boy is back in this third in the series graphic novel for intermediate readers. In this volume, Mayor Good Dog's human family and dog family cross paths when Mayor Good Dog's brother Bad Boy comes to town and is mistaken for Mayor Good Dog who gets blamed for all his bad acts. The children Abby and Aaron develop a plan to get Bad Boy to confess and clear up all the confusion. At the same time, Abby and Aaron are dealing with changes in their own family with a new baby on the way. Scheidt writes with humor that intermediate grade readers will enjoy. Harmon's illustrations support and advance the story.
This series isn't my favorite but I decided to read it because I have second grade students obsessed with it. I think my biggest problem with the series is probably the magical realism aspect of it in that everything is realistic except this one dog family that can talk (and one of them becomes the mayor). Like other graphic novels series have wild premises (Dog Man...) but because they have other unrealistic aspects, I don't mind it as much.
I did like that this one has a message about owning up to your mistakes/everyone makes mistakes.
Graphic Novel Book 3 in this series. Readers learn more about the mayor's family and what happens when a sibling suddenly appears in town. Bad Boy causes problems all over town to get back at his brother, Good Boy. The humor will appeal to elementary level readers. By the end, even Bad Boy has redeemed himself and readers learn that no one is all one thing. Everyone has traits mixed together.
