This was a difficult read for me. Characters were a little flat because the two main ones seemed to me to be too similar and didn't seem to experience much growth. They just always seemed to have enough faith to do what they needed to instead of struggling to reach that faith. The story concept was an interesting idea, even if I do disagree with it. There were parts of the book I enjoyed and there were parts that tugged at me. One character I particularly enjoyed was the youngest daughter. I thought she was the most fleshed out character and didn't receive enough page time. My very favorite part of the book involves a prank she plays on her little brother.

This was a fast paced story, which I liked, but the storyline and definitely the ending, really didn't settle well with me. I will probably finish the series because it has been recommended to me, but I don't think I would have otherwise.

The Guardian of Heaven series has been written by a very good friend of mine in Texas. He shares that he has had this story in his heart since he was 16 years old. Although I was very frustrated with typos, his style of writing, and some of his word choice descriptions, the story is fascinating with a very timely premise of the 2 prophets that will be martyred in the latter days as they pave the way for the second coming. Although this series has a spiritual premise, it is written for all audiences. I encourage my book reading friends to give the series a try, even with its amateur flaws.

One is the very well written first book in The Guardian of Heaven series by Mark H. Barratt (www.GuardianofHeaven.com), a five book series about the final two witnesses who will die and be resurrected in the streets of Jerusalem in the last days. In One, one of the witnesses is born and begins to grow up amidst many attacks by the enemy. This book is absolutely RIVETING and will tug on the heartstrings of every mother! Once you read One, you will want to read the whole series.

The idea behind the book is intriguing, but the story itself is rather dark and sad. I felt fear and foreboding almost the whole time I read it. It is a sad book with an ending that just hangs there. Based on the prophecy in the Bible the book fictionalizes I know it can't end well. Someone (my sister) can just tell me the cliff notes version of the other books once she reads them.
