slight mixed feelings

I really enjoyed Luca & Donata’s story, but this second book in the duet felt so rushed…

Unsure how I felt about Luca’s amnesia plot line, and how he was manipulated into the Russian Brotherhood because of the amnesia… it felt a little unrealistic

But the overall story was good

This review is going to hard to write without spoiling the big twist.

We left Donata in a cell in the previous book. We finally see whom she’s supposed to help: Maxim Belov, nephew of a Bratva boss, Papa. They’re at war with the Society since the events of the previous duet in the series. Papa devised a plan where Maxim marries Donata to mess with the Italian mob, but Maxim was hurt in the process.

Maxim is the total opposite of Luca: unlike the polished professor, he’s ruthless, violent. Yet there’s instant attraction between him and Donata. Almost animalistic. But she isn’t too happy to marry him, and she plans to escape.

And that’s as much as I can say about the plot without ruining the book.

The idea of belonging, of finding a family and a home, is at the center of the story. Especially what one is ready to give up for it. The topic is explored even through side characters–like Ivan, Papa’s son, or Alexei, a young orphan at the Russian compound. And it’s tied up with the last revelation of the book.

Donata and Maxim are hot together, fueled by their jealousy–of Maxim’s ex, Belinda, and of Luca. There’s a lot of steam in this book.

I felt the plot could have been tighter. I don’t mind a failed plan, but there was way too much of that. Several times a character says they’ll do something, then do nothing or wait a long time before doing it or are caught in the end. It became a bit frustrating.

All in all, it was a good way to end Donata’s story, with a couple clever twists.

Quickie

- Series: Wicked knight duet #2 (directly follows the previous book)
- Hashtags: #mafia romance #forbidden romance #enemies to lovers
- Triggers: violence and death, torture, kidnapping, attempted assault
- Main couple: Donata Salvatore & (Luca Gallo or Maxim Belov?)
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + sneaky author is sneaky
- – a whole lot of useless actions from all the characters

A Mexican Soap Opera made into a book. 2.75 ⭐

Don't even ask. I swear trashy should be a genre.
By Trashy, I mean nothing insulting, but rather the comfy, light, quick-to-go-through, can-abort-any-second kind of trashy.

At least Donata sounds way more mature in this book.
And she said "omigod" way less.

But yeah, the entire plot is so similar to book 1 (forced marriage to get to her family). Add the amnesia that you can literally spot in chapter 1, although it gets confirmed in chapter 10.

The audiobook was on point.
Though the male narrator needs to work on his female voice.

Oh what a tangled web we weave....

Donata is faced with having to marry Maxim Belov, the nephew of the Bratva boss. Donata is another pawn in a deadly game but her heart belongs to Luca. Everything is about to come crashing down around them. Who will end up with Donata's heart?

Action packed roller coaster. I don't want to give too much away as it would be easy to divulge spoilers. I found myself intrigued by all the characters in this story, Donata is a fascinating woman who you are drawn to find out more about. Chemistry off the charts, will be checking out more by this author.

Wicked Knight by Diana A. Hicks is book two in the Knight Duet. This continues the story of Donata Salvatore. This is not a standalone book. Donata hasn't seen Luca Gallo for about 2 years. But she has grown and became a more confident women who still wanted Luca. But when she is taken by the Brotherhood she tries to stay strong but it seems she is to marry Maxim Belov a man she has never met but wants her. Exciting Duet.

Angelina Rocca and Ryan Hudson did such a fantastic job bringing these characters to life!
I love a good mafia book!
Donata is looking for Luca but can’t find him. Then she gets taken and forced to marry Maxim, his family is looking for revenge.
Donata is such a fierce woman and isn’t afraid to back down.
Maxim is a man who wants what he wants and makes his family proud.

Book 2 in this duet had me just as captivated as book 1. Since we last heard about Donta and Luca we know that they weren't physically together even though their hearts were one. Donta is now a Doctor and loves her job of saving people day in and day out. She has thrown herself into work non-stop due to she is lonely and sad. Luca was killed 2 years ago and the Society had completely eliminated the Gallo family. She keeps hoping that he is out there alive waiting for it to be safe for him to return like Aurora and her son did with Enzo. Sadly that was not the case and she knew it but that hope was hard to put out.

She still has her engagement ring that she wears on her necklace which Santino reminds her is really weird. Before they can dive down that rabbit hole she gets paged to the ER for an incoming trauma, however when she gets down there things seem to be quiet that is until she hears the siren. When she goes out to get her new patient 3 men in masks jump out and kidnap her in the back of the ambulance. She knows that it is better and safer not to fight them and do what they said especially seeing how it was the Russian Brotherhood and they were known to be cruel monsters. She is given one job save their boss Maxim or die. Being a skilled doctor she does save his life then to her surprise learns that they are going to force her to marry him once awake.

Maxim Belov is the next in line to be the leader of the Brotherhood. He has a revenge plan for the Italians who killed and abused his mother, which was to steal their princess and make them pay. In the process of kidnapping the princess he gets shot 3 times and the lady doctor stiches him back up. After a week of being sedated so she could escape he wakes up and makes Donta marry him. Once married he had to leave for work for 3 weeks which allowed his face and body to heal so she could see the man that was now her husband. First she cant even look at him and then its like she cant get enough. She is a moth drawn to a flame. But this flames name isn't really Maxim it is Luca, her Luca the one she thought was dead.

Memory loss is so cruel. She had her love back but he doesn't remember anything about her. He only has this feeling that he has seen her before and has had very vivid dreams about her. How can this been? When she tries to tell him who he really is of course he doesn't believe her and she has no idea how to make him. Each time she tries to escapes to get home to come back and then save him he catches her and you can see the hurt in his eyes. He loves her and neither one can deny their chemistry, so how can he go about keeping her in the compound forever. Just when he thinks things will be good she does escape and goes home to inform the Society and they plan their rescue mission. Vittoria supports the mission and ends up dropping a huge bomb of news on Donta, which changes a lot of things. That is a story for a different time, right now nothing was more important than bringing Luca home.

The rescue mission was a failure and Luca/Maxim decided to stay at the compound with his family. Was their love not strong enough? Why would he not leave and be happy with his wife? He stays out of obligation and protection. He wants to see his people be safe and if he were to leave Papa would go after her and has proved time and time again that he doesn't care about his people. This leads to his death and the end of a tyrant. Can Donta forgive him? Will he ever get his memories back?

At the end of Book 1, several years have passed since Donata has seen Luca. Donata has regretted telling him to stay away since they last met. When Luca is kidnapped from her hospital and forced to wed Maxim Belov she is desperate to escape and is also in awe of the loyalty this stranger seems to evoke in everyone around him. She does not want to be forced to marry anyone but Luca and she tries and fails to escape before the marriage takes place.

In order to keep this review as spoiler free as possible I will say that Donata is a force. She has a single minded focus to risk it all to get her happy ending. Donata sees something in Maxim that he does not. The question is can they work together to get the HEA they desire. If you have read other books in this series you will love this duet. My expectations were exceeded and I loved the twists and turns. Another great read in the series and a great ending to this duet.

What Maxim Belov wants, Maxim Belov gets. And that includes his bride-to-be: Donata Salvatore. He doesn’t care if The Brotherhood clashes with The Society. None of it matters if he can’t have her. On their wedding night Donata comes face to face with her enemy. An enemy that can turn their worlds upside down.

As mentioned previously, I loved the narrators for this duet. I felt like they narrated the story well and the voices matched each of the characters. I would 100% listen to these narrators again and this duet as well. The spice was spicin’ and I loved that about their story. Some tropes would include forced marriage, mafia, forced proximity, found family, & romantic suspense. Some TWs to consider: mentions of r*pe, s*x traff!cking, hum@n traff!cking, m*rder and more. Please check the TWs and take care of yourself.

Even though she hasn’t heard or seen Luca in years the love they shared is as strong as ever. When Donata is abducted from the hospital where she works as a doctor, she believes it is for her medical to skills only to find out it is a plot to ensure she marries Maxim.

Maxim wants revenge for the death of his mother, and he believes to use Donata as the weapon. What he hadn’t expected was the feelings he would develop from her and that he would go from wanting to punish her to protecting her.

Secrets, betrayal and twists as Donata fights for a second chance with the man she will always love. Through the performance by the narrators, you could feel the strength of Donata and the protector in Maxim especially when it comes to the suspense part of the story.

Book 2 brings the reader to a point in the story where Donata is now forcefully married to Maxim, the Russian mafia have kidnapped her for revenge. However, Luca's fate is unknown until a surprising revelation is made. Who will get their happy ending as the fate of everyone is questioned.

Audiobook Review: Updated 11/10/14
The narration by Angelina Rocca and Ryan Hudson was intense and emotional, especially when truths are revealed. I was enthralled by this audiobook and could not get enough. This second book was suspenseful and thrilling which made this audio performance of it exceptional.

I loved this duet! Diana has a great imagination and I loved the twists and turns to this story line. I don't want to give too much away but it was all sorts of good mafia suspense. Kidnapping, murder, mistaken identities, and more.

The audio was good! Angelina Rocca did a great job as the female characters. And Ryan Hudson grew on me from book 1.

I loved seeing the rest of The Society again!

Great amount of spice but wasn't the focus - I was all in on the plot! I definitely need to get back and read/listen Rex and Santino's stories - I thoroughly enjoyed both Danata and Enzo's Duets.

Wicked Knights 2 is filled with secrets, betrayal, action and suspense and had me completely engulphed in it all as Donata tries to find the love of her life. Maxim is seeking revenge for actions that have happened in the past, but the lies they have both been told will question their love, life, identity and the loyalty of everyone around them. If you are looking for a romance story filled with twist, spice and tons of emotion then I recommend reading this book.

I'd give this book a solid 4.5 but we can't select half stars so. ..4 it is.

This has been a most entertaining mafia duet; its an arranged marriage story with kidnapping and unaliving drama. This is book 2 which was the continuation of Luca & Donatas story. The narration was excellent!

Diana Hicks did a great job writing this duet!

I received an advanced copy of the book and am voluntarily leaving a review

This captivating story takes us on a journey with Donata, who, after the chaos of her younger years, has carved out a new life as a doctor. But everything changes when she's suddenly kidnapped and whisked away to an unknown location, pulling her back into a world of danger she thought was behind her. As she faces shocking revelations and unburies secrets from her past, Donata is forced to walk a perilous path to rescue the man she loves from his own dark struggles.

The plot ramps up the tension with every twist, delivering a story that’s packed with suspense, mystery, and deep emotional layers. It dives into themes of loyalty and redemption, as Donata confronts the heavy costs of power and the sacrifices love demands. With its unexpected turns and gripping moments, this tale goes beyond the typical crime drama, offering a nuanced look at the complexities of the human heart.

Wow, what a crazy conclusion to this duet. I was so excited to see what was in store for Luca and Donata because of the cliffhanger from the first book. I was not prepared in the slightest for the roller coaster of a book Diana A. Hicks wrote. I loved the originality of this book, and it kept me guessing and being shocked at every turn. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and saying "NO WAY" was exciting and page-turning to see what would happen next. I thought the suspense and drama that followed Donata and Luca were intriguing and nail-biting. This book was filled with action, mystery, suspense, and scorching hot spice. I couldn't put this book down until I reached the end. I might have lost a few hours of sleep, but it was well worth it.

Donata is older now and just as stubborn and a force to be reckoned with. I thought that she was determined to get what she wanted, patient, and had a backbone of steel now. She definitely matured and accomplished a lot in her life. Luca was still dark, broody, and determined to get what he wanted. Their chemistry is just as fiery and explosive as the first book. I loved the paths that each took during this book. It was heartbreaking and hopeful at some points in this book. I felt my heart break and my stomach drop for Donata and what she was going through.

This duet was such an exciting, suspenseful, fist-pumping, drama-filled book. I loved the journey both these characters went through together and separately. 4.5 stars- Brooke

Wow. Just Wow. I'm blown away by this sequel to Wicked Knight. I have to say, I freaking devoured this ride because this story first of all took me by complete surprise and I was all in when I realised what was happening.
This was definitely the best kinda shocking twist that happens and Ms. Hicks has out-done herself with this sequel.

After that ending in the previous book, I was so disheartened and lost all hope of Luca and Donata being allowed to be together and have their happiness.

Especially the series of events that happened towards the ending in the previous book were so shocking and scary and horrifying and amidst all that I was terrified as to how Luca was going to survive.

We meet Maxim Belov, the so-called favourite son of 'papa', the Russian head.
Maxim Belov needs his revenge for what was done to his family and when he learns that the daughter of his enemy is in their clutches now, he's heck bent on having that revenge.

What Maxim didn't count on was getting obsessed with the Enemy's daughter but what was most shocking is the depth of passion and yearning he felt for a woman he has never even met before.

Donata Salvatore has been thrown from her comfy life that she was trying to survive without the love of her life to a straight nightmare when she's to marry the Russian brute.

The story builds up in a way that we feel the anticipation and foraying in the unknown alongwith Donata.
The mystery surrounding the Russians is knitted so smarty that even if I was having sneaky suspicions yet I had more questions that left me confused as to what was actually happening.

The Chemistry between Maxim and Donata is just another level hot and there's just something so insanely raw and hot about each time they would come together that I was seriously melting and couldn't have enough of their Chemistry.

Ahhhh... Seriously... Mr. Luca Gallo is just another level of hotness in this one and I totally get the fascination and madness in wanting a man like him to be all your.🥵🔥😍

I absolutely loved the way we are sneaked into this completely new story turn and are shown characters that somewhat reluctantly make their way in our hearts.
Like Galina and even Belinda, even though she was on the other team, yet that girl was just a pawn but she was more helpful.

Even though I hadn't read about the previous inter-connected books in this series, I'm now more than excited to read about Rex, Enzo and Santino too.
Abso-freaking-lutely loved loved this one.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

After a cliffhanger that definitely left me wanting more, I was glad that I could jump into this book so quickly. Whilst in the first book things only began to get going in the second half of the book, in this one we are thrust into the action from the beginning.

There is so much that happens in this book that I almost don’t know where to begin, there is suspense and drama like you wouldn’t believe.

Donata is forced into marrying Maxim Belov and in between being kept prisoner, trying to escape, hoping Luca will rescue her, and making friends with the wrong people, she is also dealing with how she starts to feel about Maxim.

Donata grew on me in this book after a difficult start in the first book, she is older and has her own path, she is also more confident, and whilst she does still make some bad decisions they are more understandable given what she is going through. Maxim was an interesting addition to the story, more ruthless than Luca but still with a glimpse of a soft side, it was certainly interesting to get a look into the life of the “enemy”.

There is a lot of excellent chemistry in this book and some brilliant hurdles for the characters. I think this book definitely delivered on my expectations regarding the romance after reading the first in the duet, but it exceeded my expectations in the action side of the story.

I could be tempted to start this series from the beginning and see what happened in Donata’s friend’s stories, just so that I can enjoy this world a little longer.

This story is the concluding chapter to Donata & Luca's journey, so you must read the first part beforehand. That being said, OH MY HELL! There is so much going on in this book that I have been racking my brain to figure out how to write this review since the twists are coming in hot from every direction, and I don't want to accidentally give anything away. It's set in the The Society World (crime families) so you already know things are done differently, and females are often forced into marriages they don't want which makes things chaotic as well. Donata is kidnapped by Maxim Belov, who is out for revenge since her family did some things to his family so things got interesting quickly that's for sure. There are a ton of moving pieces so I found myself suspicious of pretty much everyone with the exception of a few so I was on the edge of my seat cover to cover, and I definitely found myself with egg on my face once or twice thinking I knew anything LOL. The moment I picked it up, I was down for the count until I had all the answers, and it was quite the rush let me tell you. I love this world, and I'm sad that we have to say goodbye, but the good news is, I have no problem reading books over & over again, and this world is on that list! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the conclusion to the Knight Duet. You have to read Wicked Knight Part One before diving into this book. This book picks up right where we left off in the first book. As you know we left off the first book with Donata sitting in a cell. But it is finally revealed who she is supposed to be helping. Maxim Belov, who is the nephew of the Bratva boss Papa. The entire mafia is at war with the Society and you know exactly why if you have read the first book. I don't want to spoil it if you haven't read the book. Maxim is so unlike Luca. He is a professor but has this side to him that is super dark, very ruthless and violent. However there is this attraction between he and Donata. With that thought she sure as heck doesn't want to marry him. She knows that she needs to escape. I don't want to tell you anymore about the story but I was hooked and thought this duet was absolutely amazing.

This is the ending of the Wicked Knight Duet and it did not disappoint. It picked up right where the first one ended and it was action packed the entire book cover to cover.

We saw Donata moving on in life and making a name for herself within the hospital when she is kidnapped and taken to help someone. This one immediately starts with her helping save the life of the nephew of a Bratva Boss. When he is patched up she is informed that they are to be married.

Donata as we all know belongs to Luca who is the polar opposite of Maxim her soon to be husband, her only hope is to escape. Or is it.... without ruining the plot I have to stop there.

This book is filled with the mystery surrounding Maxim and everything about his past, dont worry we find out all about it and along the way we see the chemistry that Maxim and Donata share. The loyalty that people have and how easily others can and will betray the ones they are sworn to protect.

I love a good mafia story and this one did not disappoint

This is the second part and the conclusion of this amazing duet, and Luca and Donata’s journey continues from the cliffhanger in book one.
Luca is dark, broody, and determined to get what he wants, and Donata has grown into a confident and stubborn woman, who is a force to be reckoned with. It has been 2-years since Donata last saw Luca, when she is kidnapped by the Brotherhood, and she is being forced into a marriage with a stranger, where she comes face to face with her worst enemy on her wedding night. No spoilers, this is an amazing read!
This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with enemies / lovers, family, forced marriage, forbidden love, suspense, drama, intrigue, mystery, angst, and love, which leads to an entertaining, twisted, unpredictable, and heartwrenching, steamy page turner, which is the perfect conclusion to this phenomenal duet.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This book was a wild ride. The twist was good but then again there were quite a few twists before the book was all done.

After years apart Donata is working as a doctor. Her only consolation is knowing that Luca is safe as long as he stays in hiding and away from New York.

Donata is kidnapped from the very hospital where she works by Russians. They claim they need her but once she reaches their compound she's locked away.

She's there to marry the Russian leader's favorite son, Maxim.

Her heart belongs to Luca, so there's no way she'd marry a stranger.

But when she comes face to face with the man she's supposed to marry, her world is turned upside down.

Thank you so much to the author, and Xpresso Tours for this ARC to review.

What a great ending to such an amazing duet. You would need to read Wicked Knight Part One before starting this book. This read picks up right where we left off.
Maxim is nothing like Luca. He is dark, ruthless, and that much more delicious. But there is this attraction between him and Donata that is undeniable and they can not figure out why. Being kidnapped and forced to marry a stranger, Donata just knows she needs to escape.
With the twists and turns in this read, my emotions were all over the place. I was hooked from book one and knew book two would be amazing!!
