The start of the story was pretty solid if a little clumsy. Then at around the 60% mark it took a sharp turn for the worse and it started to just drag and suddenly at roughly the 80% mark it found God (I'm not being facetious here the story really just suddenly became peppered with religious stuff). There's also a dog which has apparently been trained to bark when talked to which I wasn't a fan of.

a mess
I couldn’t get past the first fight scene. It was awkward, to say the least. I still dont see the image of the antagonist in my minds eye. The fight took way too long, even after it was over.
We get it;
-apocalypse somehow with the infected and an emp kind of event.
-the dog, even tho just a puppy and cute is perfectly trained, will be come a reliable partner in protection and killing.
-ranger buddy-check
-awesome girlfriend to find-check
The fight scene was so cumbersome and entirely predictable (once it started; it was not predictable that it would happen so quickly. Because there was no storyline to get him there except for the local plane crash.
We like predictability. We liked flawed characters with hidden talent. We like capable friends and cool girlfriends that need saving.
We just need smooth, clean characters and events that drive the story. Im sorry for the bad review; i bought the book because the storyline sounded good.

Great read
This may be one of my favorite zombie books to date. I loved that I never quite guessed exactly where it was going plotwise. I loved that I was wholly invested in the characters. The only thing I didn't like was what I think the last chapter meant for one of my favorite characters. I am looking forward to more in this series and more from this author.

Strong start to a new Zombie Apocalypse series.
Good writing. Great characters. Interesting story that will keep you reading. If you enjoy Zombie Apocalypse stories, this new first in series is worth checking out.

Awesome
This story is great. It is the first days of a zombie apocalypse. It came without warning and the zombies are strong, fast, and aggressive. Luke and his dog must find a way to survive and require Luke's girlfriend. Well written with interesting characters.

An exciting book about zombies, survival, and a cute dog!
I came across this one on Twitter and was instantly interested! I am slowly getting back to zombie books and I could use a new one!
In this one we follow two guys who have known each other since early years, Luke and Jonah. Along the way we also get some other peeps who didn’t make it, like Gus who is now a hulking and towering dead zombie. Luke is at his home when he gets overrun by zombies, first his next door neighbour in all her dead horrificness and then followed by others who are hungry. Luke is accompanied by the adorable Archie, a cute German shepherd. Thankfully for Luke his grandpa was a prepper and has made sure there is a safe spot. With a bit overkill on items though. It was quite exciting as he hasn’t been in the cellar for ages and had to go through some things to get in, which terrified me. I was so worried he wouldn’t make it. I mean, the book is called Luke’s Apocalypse, so he probably will make it, but still I worried. And we also follow Jonah, his childhood friend who was at his work when he gets overrun and has to run for his life. Thankfully he was in the army so he knows what to do. I really loved following these two though Jonah’s was definitely more exciting to follow as he was outside and shit is hitting the fan. Plus, he has someone with him, so the stakes are even higher with that.
The zombies are horrifying and scary and I definitely wonder how the rest of the world is doing, given the spare details we get I think everything is just fucked. Can you imagine that just one plane fucks up the world?
Archie was adorable though and I loved how he tried to help out his owner many times!
There were some dumb moments, like leaving your phone, I would definitely have taken mine along given how advanced things is and you never know when you can charge it. Or how our MC just went shooting willy-nilly ending up with him getting in trouble. I mean, seriously, I get that shit is scary, but if you own a gun you should know in all situations how to use it and keep calm. Otherwise you should NOT own one if you just panic and shoot willy-nilly. One thing I can forgive is that he didn’t check out the basement further, though if I were him… I would have done that. My curiosity would have been just too high to not check it all out. Haha.
But I seriously hope the ending is just a fake, because seriously, I would be so unhappy and frustrated if it is true. I know that I should not feel much attachments to characters in zombie apocalypse books, but I just cannot help but get attached and root for them.
All in all, I flew through this book, what a ride it was! I do hope that we get many more books in this series because I don’t have enough.

I did enjoy this apocalyptic adventure! I really liked that one of the main characters is a dog, this always pleases me! I liked the ideas & plot, but thought it could do with a little more polish which is why it is 4*. Over all a good fun read!

I agree with some of the other reviewers, not fond of a cliffhanger but looking forward to the next story. It was easy to get into the story and the characters. And as long as Archie lives it will be a plus.

very intense action filled
The story and characters are great. It draws you in and keeps you there. The characters come to life and you are sitting on the edge and at times yelling at them to not be stupid or to run ( I know it’s a book).

Great zombie apocalypse and first in series! The cliffhanger is a killer, tho!! Loved the character and, especially loved Archie! The audio narration was very well read. Well written story full of excitement. I'm definitely looking forward to more!!

When I first read this book, I put it in my DNF Zone at 16% in because I thought the beloved dog, Archie, had died at the hands of the expired humans (AKA zombies). It wasn't until A. P. Shepherd himself messaged me on GoodReads and swore he didn't kill off the dog that I picked up the book to reread once more. I'm glad I did, as this zombie apocalypse novel is a perfect balance between faith in God and the dark auras of an undead uprising. While zombie lore is something I love to read about, I enjoy the uniqueness of A. P. Shepherd's descriptions of the walking undead--all-black eyes with black guts and eerie moans. Loved it all and wanting a movie depicting this indie horror series now!

Luke's Apocalypse is the first book in a new zombie apocalypse series. The book takes place in Luke's house during the initial days of the outbreak, and starts with a fast pace right from the start. The protagonist is extremely relatable and the other characters, Archie in particular, are written with surprising depth. The dialogue is excellent, though most of it is a one way conversation with a dog. The structure and pacing are good as well. Highly recommended for the zombie lovers out there and anyone else looking for an exciting read!

Good storyline, although there are cliffhangers that make me wonder what happened to certain characters. I couldn't imagine being in this situation, and I was worried for all of them as they battled through zombie hoards. A post-apocalyptic fiction that will put you right into the book with great detail to each character, settings, and situations. Some parts broke my heart and some parts were exciting and really made you root for the characters.

Luckily, he inherited his grandfather's old farmhouse. Even more lucky, grandpa was a prepper. Set up for the 2nd book, getting to his GF Katie and best friend Jonah.
