This one has a story: From about 15 to 17 a friend's mother and I traded romance novels. We read them a lot and we read them often. Romance novels where a hit or miss for me. I read so many and liked so few. But the ones I did like, I really liked. Now this particular book was not mine, and I read it, loved it, and returned it. Loved this one since it falls into my beloved Historical Great Adventure Romance genre and reminded me of my all time favorite, The Selkirks because of its wit and the author's sense of the absurd. Initially almost got put off this one by its medeival theme (i.e. women being used by men towards their own goals) and stilted language (my lady, my lord and... howbeit?), i'm so glad to have given it a try because what its really about is two fairly accomplished but insecure people getting together u ...more
Really good story. A little romance. I hated the cousin, I wish I could have thrown her from the cliff myself. Evil woman and the uncle too. Really good story though.
