The Buffalo Nickel
A stunning picture book celebrates the life of sculptor James Fraser who applied his experiences growing up in the Dakota Territory, where he witnessed the near extinction of the buffalo and the impact of this loss on the Plains Indians, to his sculptures and his design for the buffalo nickel.

This is a very nice book. The details about coin making were a bit heavy, but the fact that they were included definitely added something to the story. I had never heard of James Fraser, so this was definitely a good book to use to educate a little bit about an otherwise unknown artist. I liked it.

Wonderful story detailing American Art and History in the creation of the Buffalo Nickel created by artist/sculptor James Earle Fraser and his fight to not only preserve his creation but commemorate the Native American Indians and the virtually extinct buffalo that the Native Indians cherished.

A biography about the man who sculpted the Buffalo Nickel, why he chose to, and the Buffolo Nickel's journey to becoming the next nickel.

This had a lot of interesting information in it both on how the buffalo nickel was designed and how coins were made in those days as well as a narrative story about the artist who created the coin. One of my only complaints have to do with the transition between pages which seemed stilted.

A nice, if overly wordy, story of the origin of the American buffalo nickel, written for a juvenile audience.

My son checked this one out from his school library. Lots of cool information! We both really enjoyed learning about the history of the buffalo nickel.
