About the author

Scoon Ferguson wrote a number of genre novels in the 1990s. For reasons we're struggling to remember, What Fresh Hell Books Ltd decided to publish them a quarter of a century later. We are truly sorry. But it's done now, so if you like your horror visceral, sweary, and set in '90s Northumberland, UK, you're in for a real treat. Splatterpunk horror Pause Stop Eject was actually the third novel he wrote, but we thought it would make a hell of a debut, so it came out first, followed by alternate reality horror The Deadhouse in 2024.

Follow us @wfh_books or e direct info@whatfreshhell.co.uk and let us know what you think! The author doesn't do "that weird social media shit" but we promise to pass on every message.

In real life, Scoon Ferguson is in charge of making plays and concerts look and sound good at a local arts venue. They don't know he writes twisted horror, and it's probably best kept that way.

Pause Stop Eject written by Author Scoon Ferguson is a well written and dark dystopian novel introducing the character of David Thornwood, a nineteen year old whose mundane world and job of shelf stacker suddenly changes when time seems to stop and freezes the majority of the local population in their current positions, locations and activities. Only a select few remain untouched to carry on humanity but they’ve survived for quite a disturbing reason and have a highly questionable take on how they move their world forward. For some who survived, thankfully only a handful, their sins have truly corrupted their souls and they descend into depravity & lust with zombie appetites that are temporarily sated by the frozen. It is not long before they turn their attention to the ones who remain warm and still standing.

I honestly don’t quite know what to say about this book. The cover blurb describes this as a ‘1990’s Supershocker in print,’ and I agree that this definitely has the shock factor, accompanied with the phrase ‘WTF have I just read’ factor! The Author has certainly achieved their purpose with this book, a hybrid of horror, dystopian and a dark and twisted eroticism which some readers will love, others will hate and some like me will read out of a morbid curiosity, and then remain in a constant state of ‘WTF’ neither loving or hating this, because it is the most completely insane plot they have come across. And for that, I find myself awarding 4 stars for the sheer pluck in writing a plot like this, with its drama, bizarre imaginings and narration that will most certainly elicit an emotional response from the reader.

It would be my recommendation that the Author includes a warning or disclaimer to readers about some of the adult, and graphic content in this book in the cover blurb, for readers who are easily offended or uncomfortable with crude and lewd language and character behaviour!

An amazing story

This is an awesome story, it's hard , maybe impossible to wrap my head around it. That makes it hard to pin down and get into written form. Only Scoon Ferguson can do that. What I can say is this is a story you should read because it truly is amazing.
