Lorelei Luna doesn't know she's a witch… As a reporter for the local newspaper, Lorelei's covered everything from gardening competitions to town-wide picnics to holiday parades. She loves that job but wishes she could sink her teeth into a juicer story. Unfortunately for her, nothing ever happens in Grimstrand Hills. For now, she’s resigned to keep writing the feel-good stories and avoiding her family’s wild tales about the witches who once lived in town. That plan is foiled when she and her aunt run errands and meet the town’s newest residents, Asher Redmond and his mother, Mattie. Lorelei is instantly enamored with Asher. He’s friendly, handsome, and oh-so-funny. Even Aunt Birdy is drawn to him, and so is everyone else in town. That makes Aunt Birdy suspicious. Things get even worse when the subject of Lorelei’s most recent article turns up dead. But when the going gets tough, Lorelei does what reporters do best; she investigates. What she finds out could start a bonafide war of the witches. Will discovering the truth about herself prove too big a story for Lorelei?
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
I was expecting a certain level of writing due to my past experiences reading this author's work but this reads like someone just starting. It did not setup the story in a way that allowed me to get to know the characters or town such that I would care about what happened to them.
The action moves along in a staccato pace and is a bit disjointed in how things are described. I'm not sure that I enjoyed it enough to read the next story.
This is an entertaining new paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Lorelai is a reporter in a small town just doing her job. There’s a lot of mysteries in her town and she starting to find out some of them. As she investigates a crime that occurs in the story she soon realizes there’s a lot more going on around her than she knew before. She soon finds out that her family comes from a family of witches. As it is a new series in story I will let you read on and see what happens and follow the adventure. It’s an entertaining story and a fun read. Check it out
Lorelei was a great character for the this series. She embodies the nosey reporter/amateur sleuth in every way. Even when her ex Reid tells her to stay back she is a determined woman who will not let anything get in her way. I have to give her kudos for that, because not everyone would go to the lengths that she went through to solve Eddies murder.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between Lorelei and Asher but feel like there is so much more to explore. Not only between them but also what entails with Lorelei s life with so much going on.
Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the writing of the story. It felt a little amateurish. The author would tell us what was discussed rather than the actual dialogue and then she'd repeat things to make sure that we got it.
The thing I liked the best in the story was Sherman and he didn't show up until the end of the story!
As it stands now, I wouldn't read any more in this series. There are better books about becoming a witch and solving crimes.
The first book in a new series is usually more of an introduction to everything. This one is a outstanding exception. The story surrounds a murder an a mystery. It is written to keep you guessing, interested, and reading. Great book, you will enjoy every page. Look forward to the next one.
ARC Review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In grimstrand hill Lorelei is a reporter for the newspaper.
