The life of Jesus of Nazareth has been called "the greatest story ever told," but what role do women play in the story? In No Longer Silent, author Susan Dehn Matthews attempts to highlight the women who have been marginalized and ignored in the Gospels and provide the background behind those important women.
This is a wonderfully scripted book which allows you to take a different view of so many stories in the Bible. As I have read through the book, it gave me a different perspective. Often the women in the Bible are just barely mentioned, which causes the read to not fully reflect on the importance of that particular woman and her situation. This book helps to shed a new light on these women. I borrowed this book, but am planning to purchase my own copy to keep for reference. It would, also, make a nice Bible study or small group discussion. Each story has questions to help the reader relate the information to themselves and encourage spirit growth through reflection.
I appreciated reading the Scripture along with the midrash of the stories penned by the author. Her words and characters helped me to think differently about the stories in the Gospels.
