Fascinating perspective on how the enneagram intersects with intimate relationships. Coates’ analysis of the five factors for evaluating the health of a relationship (lovemap, levels of psychological health, subtype match, sharing a connecting line, and harmonic triads) provides a useful window into evaluating where issues might appear in relationships. Some of the case studies in this book were interesting, some are not, but this provided great insight into evaluating relationships.

Enneagram demonstrated via 54 case studies. Very useful for understanding the basics of this system, as well the way it works out in the real life.

She posits 5 factors determine relationship success: compatible love map, enneagram health level, same instinct type, being in same harmonic triad or on lines of dis/integration. I agree this may be the case when people are unself-aware or lack skills in dealing with their own and others feelings, therefore runs blindly upon pre-laid tracks of well-described by the Enneagram.

However, in my experience it is possibly to transcend the limitations placed upon us in ALL 5 factors -- a point I wish she emphasized more. Self-knowledge, self-work, mutual respect, communication, compassion, kindness, unconditional love ... are still of fundamental importance.

Therefore, very useful as illustration of the Enneagram as a system. Not meant for self-growth or any spiritual development. Recommended.
