Down at the bottom . . .
Descended, trembling with pain . . .
But where, come to think of it, I expected
the signs of cocoons, the anguish of albumen,
a full flotilla, happiness
of wardresses of the heat, damp maternal she-dogs
with pointed ears, with a look that's
slow, earthy . . . It's not neccessary,
dear souls, to complain
about yourselves, about the mud which, little by little,
you'd dug from the depths . . . Nor laughing
repudiate yourselves in the world
which grows simple, talks nonsense, in the fresh air . . .
