Presenting together for the first time, Byron Katie and Wayne Dyer address the powerful effects of your thoughts and how they create your experience. You'll learn a transformative process that will allow you to identify the stressful thoughts that cause all the pain and suffering in your life. When you release these thoughts, instead of letting them dictate your experience, you become empowered to live a life of joy--in touch with your true nature. Make the choice to change your thoughts to bring about inner peace and true happiness. In this powerful CD program, two life-changing teachers show you the way.
Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
I fired her. _______________ I wish I could provide quotes for how mind-numbingly stupid this was, but someone higher up smartly decided to only distribute this as an audiobook and I'm not going back in there.
The first ten minutes of this involves some ego-stroking nonsense about how wonderful Wayne Dyer's system for curing depression is. Evidence: eighteen is the magical number from the Bhagavad Gita and the Bible and how Wayne Dyer was like, wow, what a coincidence, my book on curing depression has 18 chapters!
I eventually came back for more torture, and skipped ahead to listen to another ten minutes in which Dyer explained the universe is out there listening and it wants the best for you, and that's why you have to put your positive thoughts out into the universe so it can fulfill your wishes.
Yes, this is basically The Secret, but with the additional (false) pretense of being actually based on therapeutic principles.
I'm not knocking this if it works for you. Different strokes for different folks. But if you're actually looking for information on how to do self-guided CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), this is not a good place to start.
I think the message presented makes a lot of sense, and it goes along with the quote, "Change your thoughts, change your life." It seems that our world has transformed many of us into fast-paced workaholics with many technological advances (iphones, laptops, texting, instant messaging, email) that provide numerous conveniences. Unfortunately these conveniences ultimately funnel more stress and feelings that we are not accomplishing all that we should. I think Byron Katie's "work" could be instrumental in helping people to look at their thoughts in a different way than they are used to. As the observer, it becomes easier to turn those thoughts around, making them work for you rather than against you. I got this from the library....worth checking out!!
A little too" new-agey”. On the other hand Byron Katie has some good ideas to banish those pesky automatic negative thoughts. In the Audible edition she reads her own work but her habit of calling audience participants, sweetheart or angel makes me cringe. It seems both phony and degrading. It reminds me more of how an uneducated person might speak rather than a scholar.
Was looking for a quick uplifting listen. This was surprising good reminder to take responsibility for my own experience and to stay in my own lane. Several examples of how negative thoughts tend to be creations and false and our minds trying to control things that are not our responsibility to control.
This wasn't my favorite to listen to as you feel like you are missing out out on some of the actions or non verbal ques since this was a recording of a lecture. I will update my review at a later time.
Love both Wayne Dyer and Byron Katie. I particularly enjoyed listening to Katie do "the work" with people. It is about speaking the truth, standing in love and letting go of your story.
