Hollywood, California, 2095… Gia Easton has had it. After catching her ex-boyfriend/agent with her best friend, the beautiful actress is through with men, but not sex and especially not now. Her family is expecting to meet her latest squeeze and won’t take no for an answer. That’s why she’s standing before the new and improved line of Male Android Companions (M.A.C.). The Institute of Robotics promises the androids are as good as the real thing without the hassle or heartbreak.Satisfaction guaranteed! The starlet has just mistaken Marc Anthony Charleston, M.A.C.’s creator, as one of his humanoids. When she selects him to take home, he’s in no hurry to correct her misunderstanding. Besides, she’s getting more bang for her buck—and so is he.
Born and raised in Arizona, I guess you'd call me a desert rat. Well, actually, I'd be a desert rat that loves the mountains and lakes. Arizona gives me great pleasure, because if I'm not at the computer writing or buried nose deep in a book you'll find me on a four-wheeler, or a jet ski, or being pulled behind my 26’ Monterey boat on an oblong tube called a ‘hot dog’ laughing my ass off. In fact, my family says I have an unnerving cackle cutting through the waves--similar to a witch!
Yes, that's right this witch has a family... Bill is my wonderful husband of twenty-two years. Tia, Samantha and Ashley are my three beautiful girls and my greatest accomplishments to date. And the light of my life is a devilishly handsome grandson, Dusty.
As writing is a passion with many—it’s an obsession with me. Who knew that the wild things going on in my head someone would actually read? But I'm thankful you do and I hope you find joy and entertainment in my sometimes—okay most of the time—risqué ramblings.
When actress Gia Easton discovers the betrayal by her boyfriend and best friend, she is caught on tape after leaving the naked couple in her movie set dressing room. Her android body guard, in order to escape the paparazzi, takes her to the Institute of Robotics, which is making its new line available-the M.A.C- Male Android Companions so lifelike they could fool anyone.
Gia, distressed and trying to recover, is invited into the showroom where, upon looking at the MAC's, she chooses one to take home with her. Unfortunately, Marc, the head scientist for MAC is in the wrong place at the wrong time, but he goes along with Gia's request as his pride is injured at her so what attitude towards his androids that he has put so much time into.
Although only expecting to stay for a night or two, Marc ends up finding a place in Gia's life. Once he gets to know the real her, she fills a void that has always been in his life. Unfortunately, now that she sees him only as a robot, how can he get out of this without hurting her?
So THAT'S what a real male is supposed to be like. Gia is torn between the feelings that Marc stirs inside her and the fact that he isn't REAL. Gia even exclaims that if Marc were real, she would definitely be falling in love with him as he's good enough to marry. Marc has let her explore her inner fantasies of bondage and submission and has shown her exactly what sort of romance she wants to have.
At at party in her parent's honor, not only do Mark and Gia express their love for each other, but Gia finds out the truth about Mark. Again, Gia feels deeply betrayed, only this hurts more than anything else she has experienced. Marc apologized and tries to explain, but she won't here it.
Months later, while doing the role of a lifetime, Gia once again encounters Marc. He begs for her forgiveness, and she must figure out exactly what her heart is telling her.
Nice story. Although there were some BDSM elements, that wasn't the focus. The development of the romance remained the focus. However, there was A LOT of sex scenes in this book. Most seemed to move the story forward, but some scenes I skimmed over to get back to the story line. And Mark, he was definitely too good to be true. He was sort of the Disney Prince Charming who lacked the realism of true life and there fore I wasn't as drawn to him as some of the other male characters I have read about in the past. Other than being a little naive, Gia was a great female character who was daring and strong.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. It was fun, romantic, and HOT!!!
Normally I would summarize the book but since the excerpt above does that for me I will just jump right into my review.
Both the characters in this book are very well developed and three dimensional. Marc is one sexy man. He is a man that every women would want. Sensitive, caring, compassionate, intelligent, strong, sometimes dominate and very alpha. He understands a women's needs and a women's body. However, women have a hard time getting past the "geeky scientist" image of him so when he meets Gia, a very talented actress, he thinks she is way to good for him.
Gia is talented, intelligent, strong, and beautiful, not to forget famous. She is looking for a man who she can share a life with but she is contantly betrayed by the people she trusts.
When Gia and Marc meet, under unusual circumstances, they share an instant attraction for one another. As their relationship progresses you can feel the sexual heat and chemistry. The emotion is unbelievable throughout the whole book and had be tearing up at the end. I love the fact that aside from the obvious they are honest with each other from the beginning. The sex is unbelievably hot and erotic. You seriously will be fanning yourself after this one.
The story line is intriguing and it grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go until the last page. This book is labeled futuristic/sci fi but does not feel like it at all. I don't normally read this genre of romance but I thought I would try it and am happy I did. The only thing that stood out at futuristic is this book was the technology and some of the language.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a fantastic read!!!
2.5 stars. Gia is in a romance rut. Upon finding her agent and personal assistant going at it in Gia's dressing room, she decides to take on a MAD, a male android companion to get the attention she needs. Only problem is the MAD she selects is really the company's president. Star struck he keeps up the ruse, going home with her and pretending he's one of his MADs.
You know where this story is going to go but I still liked the premise and wanted to like this book. I might have more if it hadn't fallen into this ridiculous BDSM stuff as it seems every powerful, successful woman must need to submit in the bedroom. Unfortunately it was hard to get back into the story after that. However Gia and Mark are interesting as they circle their emotions, Gia's shame in falling for an android and Mark's shame in lying to her. She finds out of course and I very much appreciated that the author didn't have her fall back into his arms with a simple apology. He has to work for it and I do wish I'd seen a little more groveling, the ending is well done as they try and merge their two lives. So good beginning, decent end, blah middle.
Review by Sarah L: Having not read a lot of futuristic novels, I really wasn't sure what to expect when I won a copy of this e-book. I must say this book had me captivated right from the start. It's got great character development and is smoking HOT to boot!
Of course as the reader it seems obvious that Gina should have realized Marc was not really an android but I think the author did a great job of putting us in her shoes and seeing it from her point of view. I really enjoyed getting to know both Gina and Mark and felt a connection with both of them.
This was my first book of Ms. McKade's but it will definitely not be the last. I look forward to reading many more her books.
Ah, the mistaken-for-a-robot plot device that typifies a lot of futuristic smut. Somebody gets confused with a sex robot, either intentionally or not, and goes along with the deception for grins and giggles and other very obvious reasons. McKade does a great job with this typical plot device - the story is hot, our characters have emotional depth. In particular, our "Male Android Companion", here Marc Carpenter, the creator of a robotic line of android companions who allows himself to be 'rented' out after a pretty starlet assumes he is one when she enters his showroom, is charm and intelligence and looks and sex on wheels. Great story.
"Real man posing as a sexdroid" has to be the most unbelievable premise in the romance and/or erotica genres. Does a real man have a multi-speed vibrating function? Is he programmed in multiple techniques? Can he cope with 6 times a day for 3 days when you're ovulating & really in the mood and then none at all for the next 3 weeks because you're busy and tired? Does he have a MUTE button and an OFF SWITCH? No? Then how the hell would you confuse the human for a purpose built droid?
I really got a nice surprise reading this story. I was not sure how it would go when I read the exerpt for this one. To me, it was well worth the read for it being futuristic.
