School in the Clouds" is a great read. Anyone who has been to East Africa, or is enchanted by the early years of the missionary movement, will find this book compelling. Phil Dow balances thorough historical research with a tender nostalgia for a place that has had a surprising influence on the development of East Africa
Well-researched book. It places RVA in context of the broader history of the African Inland Mission, and the African Inland Church. I impressed with the supporting references and footnotes.
The Rift Vally Academy is the largest missionary boarding school in Africa. Located in Kijabe, Kenya, it serves missionary kids from all over the continent and even from Europe and Korea. The author, an alumnus of the school, follows the school's founding and the missionary movement of African Inland Mission from the early 1900s until today. As our granddaughter is in the first grade there even though she does not board, I found the history most interesting. RVA provides an american school and church experience for the students to better help them adjust when they return to the states for college after graduation.
