I like how Luke struggles with his relationship with his son Sam, but does still keep trying for a real relationship. While his relationship with Megan works, it still feels like too much when added with all that's happening with Sam.

You can’t stop me.
Megan O’Ryan was a city crime scene investigator – she never expected to end up at the scene of her own sister’s murder. Having found the DNA evidence to convict the St. Patrick’s Strangler who killed her sister plus 2 other girls, she is now trying to heal in the small town of Crystal Lake.
A girl has turned up murdered in Crystal Lake. Interim Sheriff Lucas Torretti asks Megan for help – with no access to a crime team in this small town, her expertise is invaluable...& her co ...more

I am so glad I picked this up. It's very captivating & had me hanging on to every word. I love how Laura is able to weave the plot & characters.
Megan, a Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) has a heartbreaking past, a past that I would not wish on anyone - the violent death of her younger sister Katie. Megan helped convict & send to prison the man who killed Katie, the St. Patrick's Killer.
Still haunted by Katie's death, Megan left Chicago to start over in a new town. Soon the towns handsome Sheriff ...more

Wow! Every once in a while, a book comes along that surprised you. I read the back of this book several times, but put it lower on the pile. Well, I could NOT put this book down once I started reading it! Though I was able to figure out most of it before I got to th end, the author was still able to keep me interested enough to read.
As far as the suspense go, I could almost feel the feelings of Megan every time something else happened in this mystery. For the romance, I loved it! Though it was a ...more

I like the pacing of Luke and Megan's relationship, and the fact that he reaches out to her because of her past experience. They seem like a strong, balanced couple. That said, the problems with Luke's son Sam are wrapped up a bit too neatly. I buy the strained relationship between father and son, especially since it is set up by the mother's death; Luke handles the difficulties as well as he can, but Sam's sudden turn from angry teenager to compassionate helper isn't quite foreshadowed enough t

LAWMAN-IN-CHARGE is a great story! I'm glad I picked up this book. The characters are very well-drawn and the plot is captivating. Megan has a heart-wrenching past and a struggle ahead of her that will test her spiritual, physical, emotional strength. Luke is a hero who will have to make some tough decisions of his own and overcome his past mistakes. The serial killer edge makes the story a page turner.

A good book. I would've liked a little more depth to some of it, but for a quick read it was good.
