I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire.

For some mystical, magical reason, early in the process, my vampires appeared with enormous beautiful wings and it has been the most amazing experience to include flight in my novels, in both battle scenes and scenes involving spectacle. My special vampire world, published by St. Martin's Press, is introduced in the first book called, ASCENSION (12-28-2010). The second book, BURNING SKIES (May of 2011), opens up the world a little bit more. And even as I write this, I'm on the final draft of my third novel, WINGS OF FIRE (September of 2011). What a thrill it has been to live with my ascended vampires through the creation of this extraordinary, multi-dimensional world!

For more information about my unique take on the vampire mythos, check out my website at carisroane.com and my book release video on YouTube by putting in the search phrase, Caris Roane Ascension.

With every hope you'll enjoy reading my books set in the World of Ascension, All my best, Caris Roane

This book was just NOT FOR ME!!!!!! Ok I only gave this book 3 stars because of the other stories going on around Thorne and Marguerite's story and the babies because if I was to rate it on their love story I would give it 1 star... I don't get how theirs was a love story. I hated, and I do mean I hated Marguerite deeply!!! To me she had no good qualities. I don't care how many times the write said she took beatings for others or was abused she still was a selfish, self-centered, nasty, trashy hoe period!

 photo Gemma-WHORE_zps55a35fdf.gif

I have read books where someone finds their mate, bonds their mate to them without the others say so and she fights it, runs from it even tries to date other men because no one takes over their life without giving them a choice> I get that, but this was 100% different Marguerite and Thorne have been together for 100 years yet she was so selfish that she didn't care how bad it hurt Thorne. She flirted with men in front of him, rubbed on Jose in front of him made out with and when home with him. She didn't care that she drove him to madness with pain that she was going to sleep with another man. Then I hoped she wouldn't go through with it that she would stop before sleeping with him but no she slept with him. ( of course Thorne had switch bodies or whatev)There was nothing hot or sexy about that sex scene. How Thorne could touch her knowing she thought it was another man and want to do anything but slap her is beyond me! Then she sees him in her hotel room when she gets out of the shower after screwing another man sees Thorne is relaxed asked if he just had sex and when he says yes she gets pissed at him and hits him!

 photo bridesmaids-f_ckin-kidding-me_zpsa9e8360f.gif

Can you say trashy hypocrite! So she sleeps with Thorne does a mind dive finds out about Jose and Thorne switch thing this gives her a chance to wise up change but nope she is upset at other girls looking at him, but tell him she is going to a strip joint making him sad and making him feel inadequate. She does leave the strip bar to check on him after he is so hurt he leaves, but she makes sure to tell him she is still leaving him that she want her freedom to screw her way around the world. The whole relationship is like this she sleeps with Thorne but doesn't want to stay. He is never enough for her and her only thoughts are all the freedom she is giving up until he dies. None of the sex scenes in this book works for me because all I could think was ew Thorne don't put your mouth there ew how does Jose taste! I really didn't get their love it seemed sad and one sided I felt so bad for Thorne he was a great guy he deserved so much better. Right before they are almost killed in a tiger cage she is ready to leave again and this is towards the end of the book but of course almost dying makes her realize she loves him

dramatic eye roll photo: kimeyes82709.gif

yeah right! The man had to die DIE for her to figure out she loved him Really God I hated their love story It made me Rage I was yelling at my kindle Hoe GOD I Hate you like every 5 mins. I had to force myself to finish the book and only because I want to know what happens with Leto , Grace, Endelle and the rest of the gang! I don't know what is up with Grace having two brehs, but I don't like it especially her sleeps with both of them. The Fact that she refused to sleep with Leto and then runs with Casimir and sleeps with him even after he took her to Greaves and turned her over to be used as a trap to kill her brother and his woman and Greaves wasn't gonna even give her back but was gonna kill her and Casimir knew that Greaves was must likely not going to give her back and she still slept with him what the hell!!!! I want her with Leto! That she could love Casimir makes me wonder about her. Casimir is a creep and he he enjoys hurting people I just don't get it. Poor Leto looks like Thorne isn't the only one to get the short end of the stick. I will try to keep a open mind about the whole Casimir thing because he is her breh too but

really photo: tumblr_lj50tz41Lz1qeolcio1_500.gif

I was at least glad that Marguerite told him she was sorry for makin his life hell. I get what the writer was trying to do. Marguerite was suppose to be the Abused woman who didn't break but instead was a wildcat ,rebel spirit, and is a fighter but she just took it too far . I think if she hadn't slept with Jose(I know it wasn't really him but she thought it was) I could have got over the rest, but it just ruined the book for me! but it did calm me down a lil that she said sorry for Jose. I like that Thorne Got the bossman job. I liked it that they are going to have twins. I hope the next book isn't this upsetting I loved Jean-Pierre and Fiona I guess I will just have to read and see

Wow, what an amazing read! It's been a while since I was this excited about a book in this genre. I am so happy I started this series! I will admit I never thought it would be this good but it truly is and I guess I need to start recommending it a bit more than I have been doing.

A small summary of the book and a little description of a very unusual couple...
Things have been getting harder and more difficult to the Warriors of the Blood with every day that goes by. Greaves' power is getting out of hands and he definitely doesn't fear to use illegal means to achieve what he desires. So how will Good ever triumph when Evil cheats and isn't afraid to do whatever in its power to win? How to beat Evil without becoming that very thing you need to eradicate? The war has been going on and on for decades, a sense of despair and hopelessness is starting to weight in all the Warriors, but specially on Thorne. As leader of the Warriors of the Blood he just needs to find a solution to this impediment doom that follows, the burden of securing everybody's safety is becoming too much to bare anymore. So after 2000 years he does what nobody thought him capable of. he takes a break. How can a man everybody depends on just walk away?A man everybody admires for his sense of responsibility, of doing what's right for everybody else while never putting himself before others, is not suppose to just leave... but he does just that, and why? To chase his destined mate, a woman who was imprisoned for 100 years and only craves freedom. How will Thorne make her understand they need to be together without doing to her what made her fled in the very first place?
To see this two outstanding characters facing the things they fear the most and rediscovering their love was one of the things that made me love this book so much. I would have rated it with 5 stars only for this, but THIS READ WAS SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT!

A glorious and complex World, so very different from all reads in this genre...
I guess the real appealing of this series is the world building, the complexity and constant variation. Everything is continually changing, nothing is set on stone. While we can discover the future through Seer eyes we never really know what will happen next. I LOVE THAT. So many things are possible, so many powerful character interact in this series that everything could monumentally change from one minute to the next. HOW NOT TO BE CRAZY ABOUT A SERIES LIKE THAT? But more than that I adore the fact that we're not just reading about vampires but different dimensions, different beings of power, an uncertain future and a bunch of values and feeling all mixed up inside this wonderful characters. They just are so very different from each other, never would I mixed a warrior with another, even their mates are unique and special.

Some very important tidbits for those who have read all the previous books:
1) We get to read a lot about ENDELLE in this installment. About her disappeared lover Braulio and her 'sisterly' feelings for Thorne. We get to see a side of her we never saw before, we get to know her much better, her deepest feelings and longings.
2) You'll see some huge life-changing events in many of the character's lives. in the war as well. which for me was an amazing change that the series needed.
3)This book is definitely hotter and has more suspense and exhilarating moments.
4) The heroine is DEFINITELY AN ANNOYING BITCH at the beginning but you end up liking her, so be patient.

I JUST CAN'T FREAKING WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK.

This a fantastic, sexy, thrilling and totally wonderful ride!

The story is fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat pretty much from beginning to end. What else can I say but this, "I absolutely loved it!"

Why I still continue this series?

If we see from ideas and originality, nothing new about "World of Ascencion" series. Ms Roane seems like mix all paranormal romance elements she'd knew. From the merry band of vampire brotherhood (BDB anyone?), winged creatures(Guild Hunter, everybody?), the smell-mate thingy (cough, cough,Midnight Breed?) and more. But, why I still read her books anyway?

That's because her world building captivated me. Ms Roane must do a hard work to make her books a little bit different from other series. So,she mix it with make Earth have six dimension, where mind ability control is the strongest power of all power and suddenly all her characters falling hard in love. Yeah, the latest not new after all,but still work to make readers interested.

Obsidian Flame continues what happen from book 4, Born of Ashes. Thorne, the leader of Warrior of Blood left Second Earth to chase his ladylove who doesn't want to be chased after,Marguerite. I'm still confused why the breh-hedden or bonding mate just hit Thorne now. When Marguerite free from her convent. Make a no little sense after all, since Thorn and Marguerite become lover (or fuck buddy) for hundred years. But, there it was.

Marguerite, hmm,I don't know. I will not say she is bitch to leave Thorne, or slut to have a single purpose after her freedom, having sex with many men. Actually, after she left Second Earth, she just having sex with Thorne. I almost afraid I will not like her. But Marguerite, surprisingly, not annoying. She has balls. Her relationship with Thorne of course different from other couples. More like a second chance type relationship.

Things get heating up in this book. The third triad obsidian flame was found,in form of Grace, Thorne's sister. Turn that she have 2 mates in the same time, the ex-traitor Leto and other villain, Casimir. Whoaa, mama, talk about having 2 mates, suddenly all that I think is menage of trois!! Alas, I think we will don't get it in the next book.Interesting to see how Ms Roane will bring Grace-Leto-Cassimir relationship.

The others, beside the main villain Greaves who march his new armies of thousand death vampires, is how Thorne manage his relationship with Her Supremeness Endelle.Yeah, the scorpion queen got her butt kicked (not literally) with Thorne left her, since Thorne is her vice. But what Thorne do,to break his mind link with Endelle. is necessary. How can he bonded with Marguerite if his mind still connected with Endelle? Actually the main reason I give this book almost 5 stars is Thorne-Endelle. While Thorne-Marguerite just pretty okay,I love the way Thorne manage his relationship with Endelle. They had been together for thousand years. They never been lover, even they tempted to do so.Endelle's love for Thorne more like sister for him and vice versa. For her quirkiness, weird attitude and hot temper that make her famous as scorpion queen,Thorne understand Endelle, and still support her. Ms Roane seems want to show, that love between man and woman, sometimes not just merely based on lust. Sometimes its just based on friendship and family, like what happen to Endelle and Thorne.

As for writing style,I'm glad to see Ms Caris Roane had improved. Oh,the book still thick, the sex scenes still hot (which some of them feel like repetition), but finally the amount of"cried" and "whatever" words decreased. I think, its odd if Ms Roane's writing kinda immature since she had published 50 books before under other pen name. But seems like she improved hers for the newest books, and I don't have an urge to frown when read the books

World of Ascencion might not be original, but I enjoy read them all. I can't wait to read the next book,Gates of Rapture. For PNR romance fans that love BDB,this series is can't be missed.

Whoa! I just realized that this book was over 400 pages. And I tell you, I felt every. Single. One.

I've read all of the previous books in this series but had to take a break. They absolutely follow a pretty strict formula and don't really deviate at all. So after four books, I felt like I'd had enough for a while. I think I stopped at the wrong place though because it was tough to get back into the swing of things with Obsidian Flame.

Marguerite is a really great heroine and a completely awful bitch. And she's both of these things at the same time and throughout the entire book. She's been abused her whole life. It was her parents when she was a child and then they sent her to a convent that employed beatings as a way to assist with religious teachings. Now that she's free from the convent, all she wants to do is cut loose and be a little wild. I totally get that. Well, the wanting to enjoy her freedom is what I get. She's got these amazing powers and even more powers are emerging. She can totally kick ass. For all these reasons, I think Marguerite is an awesome heroine! But she treats her mate like he's a piece of crap and I just don't like that at all. She wants to sleep around and sow her oats but she doesn't want to hurt Thorne, her mate. There was a lot of back and forth with the way Marguerite was acting and it wasn't really any fun to read.

Thorne is a serious hero. He's the leader of the immortal warriors and there's been a war brewing since Book 1. I love how serious Thorne is and how much he loves his warrior brothers. The male bonding is a bigger part of this book (and this series) than in most romances I've read and I enjoy it. I sympathized with Thorne because Marguerite's actions were hurting him, emotionally and physically. On one hand, I wanted him to DO something about her but on the other hand, I totally understood why he didn't. He loves Marguerite and wants her to be happy. If running around mortal earth is what makes her happy, then what's he supposed to do? He can't just grab her and take her home - he would be no better than the people who kept her prisoner for most of her life. I think Thorne has been one of my favorite heroes in this series. Not just because he's hot and has wings, but for all of his patience and wisdom that he shows his mate, his friends and everyone he has contact with. But most of the time, I felt bad for Thorne that he was saddled with Marguerite as his mate.

There's no doubt about it - Marguerite and Thorne have chemistry and are seriously hot together. But they have a pretty serious journey they go on throughout this book and it was frustrating and yet wonderful to read about it. By the end, they are helping each other and holding each other up and it's such a huge turnaround that it's difficult to not be impressed.

I'm on the fence about recommending this book. I think, first of all, that anyone interested in this book MUST read at least SOME of the preceding books. There is entirely too much going on in this book that is informed by things that happened in previous books. It's been a while since I read Books 1-4 and I couldn't remember everything that happened so I was confused in a few areas. Also, I think this book is going to be good for someone who likes characters that have big changes that happen to them. Well, I guess the change doesn't happen TO Marguerite, she sort affects the change in herself. But she comes to the realization of who she wants to be and that's a pretty big deal. But she was so unlikable for so much of the book and there's so much other stuff going on in this book that I can't say that I loved this book. It was good but I'm glad I'm finished with it.

Caris has created the most unique vampire world. They gain immortality when they ascend. With ascension comes incredible powers and exceptional abilities. She has added in the extremely sexy mating (breh-hedden) that takes the ascended vampires through even more changes, where they are bestowed more abilities, and further changes their powers and connections to others. The uniqueness of this series is the number one reason to read the books. They are also extremely hot when the hero and heroine are in the throes of the breh-hedden.

Most of the individuals of Second Earth see their abilities as gifts. Marguerite, a Twoling (born of Second Earth) sees her Seer ability as a curse. She has been punished by those who should have loved her, imprisoned by those who claimed to want to help her with her abilities, and used by the people who saw her only as their person crystal ball. All she has ever wanted is her freedom. There is just one huge problem standing in her way, Thorne in the vice grip of the breh-hedden.

Thorne was beyond perfect for Marguerite. He understood her need for freedom. He knows of the atrocities that the seer’s go through. Thorne has witnessed his fellow warriors go through the breh-hedden. I loved how he tried to be patient with Marguerite during some of her moments of trying out freedom. He had an amazing mix of chest beating Neanderthal, and gentle giant.

Greave’s has upped the ante even more in his battle to take over first and second earth. As with the previous books readers learn a little more about him. He has issues and one of the big ones was finally revealed.

I can’t wait to get to Grace and Leto’s book. The last part that she is mentioned in made my eyes pop out of my head. She made an interesting decision. She followed through on something I didn’t think possible. Leto will be an interesting tortured hero to read. I’m looking forward to reading him overcoming what he has become.

I hate to say this but this was the first book that I have read in this series. I guess you’d think that I was missing out on a lot of the back story but this book goes back and tells you a little about each of the past books.

I really enjoyed Thorne and Marguerite’s story. Thorne had a lot of responsibility placed on him and he had to choose between his duty and his love so he chose the one that would center him. Thorne has been Marguerite’s savior for 100 years. There is no way that I would want to be locked up for 100 years as a convict and have all kinds of things done to me. Thank goodness that Marguerite had Thorne to help her through some of it. If it had been me, I would already be dead. Fate showed its sense of humor when Thorne finds out that when Marguerite is set free she is his breh.

I loved the way that the book was written. It really kept me on my toes and wondering if anything would ever go right. I just hated that it took Marguerite so long to give in to Thorne. I could, however, understand that she wanted to just get away from it all and start all over. The story line itself was very easy to follow. It had a lot of depth to it.

I can’t wait to read the next book. We get a little taste of the next one, which I loved. I guess now I’ll go back and read the first four! That should keep me busy.

Obsidian Flame is the sexiest Ascension Warrior book yet! This time around Caris Roane delivers a nail biting romance because the heroine Marguerite well, she’ll make you wait to see how it all ends up.

Now that Marguerite has escaped all she wasn’t to do is go have as much sex as she can but she has one problem well you better make that two problems. One is Thorne and the other is the breh-hedden. She takes a long time to come to her senses about things so at times she can be a bit no scratch that, very annoying so beware as you read. I myself really liked how it took Marguerite a while to come to her senses and welcome Thorne as her mate because you just can’t take a person in years of captivity and abuse and expect them to just cling to their lover. No, they would want to be free and Marguerite really does try hard to be that.

Now, let me get to the hottest book yet. Marguerite is very sexually active so you’ll find lots of hot sex scenes in this book so beware if you are one that doesn’t care for that.

I really liked reading more about Endelle and the changes that went about the ongoing war. I cant wait to see what's going to happen next.

I highly recommend this book. I would suggest if you haven’t read this series to start with the first book and read in series order.

OBSIDIAN FLAME is book five in the Guardian of Ascension series. This is Thorne and Marguerite’s book.

I was looking forward to reading this book but have to admit that it didn’t really ring my bell. I found that I enjoyed Thorne’s character a lot. He was strong, possessive, and determined to have his woman. But at the same time, I don’t think he got what he deserved in Marguerite. I felt like he deserved someone better.

In the opening chapters, Marguerite finds a random club named Jose and decides to sleep with him even though her mind keeps constantly going back to Thorne. Thorne knows this and instead of letting his possessive beast out, he enters the mind of Marguerite’s latest conquests and has sex with her that way. It was like a mind fuck in the most literally way. And I’m not sure this worked for me. Yes, the sex was hot. But at the same time, I just didn’t find it all too romantic.

From there, the rest of the book didn’t appeal to me much. I found that I couldn’t relate to Marguerite’s character so therefore, it was difficult for me to believe in the romance. I’m hoping that the other books fare better than this one.

3.5 stars. I'm always glad to see improvement and this series is finally beginning to grow on me. Either that or I've developed immunity to the numerous flaws. Even though I actually enjoyed this one, there remains room for improvement.

At one point, Marguerite compared how she was feeling to having the flu for a week. Except, as a twoling, she's never been sick a day in her life. The fact that no one on 2 gets sick has been well established because, quite frankly, Roane is pretty repetitive.

At another point, Grace suggests that Marguerite "had always called [Quena]'sister-bitch'". In the previous novel Marguerite had a good laugh over Endelle's use of the phrase and said she would begin to use it. So 'always'?... not quite.

This might have gotten four stars but I think, while I liked the story and the characters, the magic was a bit over the top and inconsistent. I still have a hard time accepting that after all the displays of power, and training that Thorne & Mags got eaten by a cat. It was too easy. The fact that they kept saying "obsiddy" was grating. The titles were obnoxious enough without being even more obnoxiously abbreviated.

This was such a ride! I am so happy that I waited for a day in which I could read (almost) the whole book from cover to cover. I don't even know what to say about it, I am so exited that I really couldn't censor myself :))

The character growth of both Endele and Marguerite is amazing. I was sure that by the end of the book I would want to kill Marguerite in many different, creative ways, but she lived up in the end to Thorne's standards. Revisiting all the old characters, and also meeting new great ones made this book even more spectacular.

All in all I am grateful that I listened gave in to peer pressure to Miss Vain and started this series.

This series is getting better and better. Loved Thorne's story but a bit iffy about what's happening between Grace, Leto and Casimir... not sure I like where that's going. I guess I'll see when the next book comes out!

I have mixed feelings about Marguerite. In the beginning, I did not like how easily and carelessly she tossed Thorne aside. I understood her desire for freedom, as she had been imprisoned in the convent for a century. But there was no excuse for the thoughtless way she treated Thorne, and really, Endelle as well, seeing how they both had just broken the law to break her out of the convent. When she finally came around and realized what a catch Thorne was, I liked her much better. Lots going on in this book. Not just about one couple. There is Thorne and Marguerite, Grace and Leto, Grace and Casimir, and Endelle and Braulio. The next book should be quite exciting as all is resolved. Looking forward to reading how it all works out.

I really get tired of saying this.. but Caris Roane has done it again!! Obsidian Flame the 5th full book in her Ascension series completely and totally ROCKS!! This book could easily have lost itself in the dynamics of Thorne and Marguerite but instead Ms Roane crafts a dynamic tale of the choices of love. It is an amazing dance of delicious delight.

Thorne, the leader of the Warriors of the Blood for over Two Thousand Years, dedicated to saving the world and the lives of his men. A true second in command to Endelle.. so close they share a mind link. Strong, loyal, determined and suddenly he walks away to follow his Breh-Hedden. He manages to block Endelle and begins a journey that I think surprised even him. For a hundred years he has lied to his Warriors, Friends and even Endelle telling them that he was celibate and yet had found release and comfort in his sister’s cellmate at the convent. Knowing he could go to her every morning after every battle has kept him sane. When she is finally freed and chooses a life of “freedom” on Mortal Earth Thorne all but looses it. Leaving it all behind he follows her trying desperately not to destroy the humans she chooses to interact with. As he observes her he discovers new powers that allow him a degree of sneakiness and the ability to keep sane.

Marguerite, the second member of the Obsidian Flame triad.. she is the strongest seer in Second Earth and she wants no part of it. After a horrid childhood, followed by 100 years of forced service in the convent all she wants is to be free!! She has strong urges and honestly wants to boink every man she can find. As she begins her journey she finds that while the body is willing the spirit, her heart, is not.. she dreams of Thorne even when she hunts and tracks other men. She has no want to accept the Breh-Hedden, she doesn’t want to use her SEER powers.. She wants to be left alone.. She wants her time to grow, to discover, to for lack of better terms find herself. And yet... she is the Red Flame of the Obsidian Flame Triad, she is the strongest Seer on Second Earth and she is the Breh-Hedden to the leader of the Warriors.. As much as she tries she can not escape those facts.

Thorne and Marguerite dance a different dance than the other Breh’s they have been lovers for a century and while she was restrained by her ankle bracelets, they were never aware of the Breh-Hedden bond. When it hit them, it hit them hard! Their choices are more about a couple that has been together for a while and find they want different things. How do they resolve their issues? It seems as much as she tries Marguerite can not escape who she is and when the time comes, she chooses to use her sight to help others. To be there for the ones who were there for her. To help those who need her strength. Together Thorne and Marguerite discover hidden sanctuaries of Seers. compounds dedicated for millennia to protect seers from the lack of rights given them on Second Earth. Besides having to decide whether or not she wants to accept her Breh, she must decide how she can help the hidden compounds and if she even wants to. Marguerite is forced, as so many of us are, to grow up. To realize that she was given gifts for a reason. She can either accept them, use them and flourish or she can deny them.

Thorne, amazes me.. He is this rock, this steady, sure source of strength. He knows he wants and loves Marguerite, he knows he will probably completely loose it if she leaves and yet.. he accepts her. For who and what she is. Oh sure he uses his whiles to convince her to see it his way but he knows in the end the decisions is hers. It’s fun to watch Marguerite realize just what she has been given and how others see him. We also get an excellent look into Thorne’s relationship with Endelle.. how much he is the Rock in that relationship as well. That she needs him as much if not more than he needs her. That without him she has no one.. Endelle, too has to grow up in some ways. She has to remember that relationships are not built on mind links.. rather the day to day being there for each other.. I cried with Endelle this time around.. She was so very lost when Thorne went to find Marguerite and left the Warriors to sorta kinda fend for themselves.

Leto, shows himself in this book as well.. oh my poor Leto.. his story is heartbreaking. I can not wait to see what Caris has in store for him. although I have a sneaking suspicion it’s not exactly what we think it is going to be.. Or if it is, then there is something more to it. Leto’s book promises to bring more gut wrenching tears... I love the way Caris, enter twines her next book into the current one so we think we know what is going to happen.. There are so many dangling strings.. are they red herrings or important links?

The battle with the psycho little peach continues and Thorne discovers a new way to combat him.. I Know there is just so much packed into this little book.. layer after layer after layer.. This book, this series is a MUST read!

Lots going on in this book. I really started out not liking Margaurite very much and thogu I liked her better at the end of the book, I'm still not sure how I really feel about her as a heroine. She was quite selfish and whinny at the beginning of the book and it took the majority of the story for that to improve. Granted, she had some really good reasons for the behavior, but it really wasn't very attractive or appealing and I really wasn't thrilled with the way she treated Thorne.

Thorns had issues of his own throughout the book, but that was expected and they dealt mainly with how he needed to change his current relationship with Endell (mostly for the good of the war efforts) and his need to realize that he really wasn't alone in the fight and the responsibilities he carries. He does come to terms with these things and the changes in both him and his breh make for a good forward moving plot line.

To complicate things, we have Grace (Thorne's sister from the convent), the forward movement of Leto's story line, the changes in Endell, the continued appearance of Braulio and Casimir (both of whoim really complicate things - though in very different ways), the changes in the Militia Guards (Gideon most notably) and the discovery of "hidden seers". There is a lot of plot advancement in this book and a great deal fo set up for the next stage of the story. The next book is not revealed and there are several options for who will be next. Overall, a very good book and a definite must read for anyone following the series. Also, a better book than the last one and a return to the moreexciting story lines of the first three books. Gotta say though - I really wish Greaves would find a different way to attack or would make things more interesting. His appraoch and the continued war plot line are a little old and stale to me. I'm getting more than a little frustrated and annoyed at the lack of advancement with that particular part of the story and it i the main reason I'm not going with 5 stars at this point. It's a bit hard to believe that someoen with that level of power wouldn't have already wiped out the opposition - and if he can't then there should be more success by Endell's group than we see.

Overall
Just when I was complaining that all the women of these books were tall, here comes Marguerite, she’s a midget among giants! What she lacks in height, she makes up for in personality She’s independent and has decided that her life going forward, she’s going to be a selfish bitch. Too bad for her that it’s not as simple as that. She let’s her feelings for Thorne and her sense of responsibility get in the way of that. For me, she’s the saving grace of this book and for all the heroines in this series.

Thorne’s gone awol to follow his breh, Marguerite into Mortal Earth where they uncover hidden colonies of ascenders. While the two of them work out her commitment issues and his guilt over abandoning his warriors, we learn more about Thorne’s emerging powers. When we finally have a confrontation between Thorne and Endelle, it’s anti-climatic and disappointing. His new role in the war, while from a real practical standpoint might be important, this is a paranormal romance - a fantasy world, so it’s… really uninteresting.

The Couple
Bravo, Mrs Roane - an exciting and interesting couple, finally. I think what was essentially missing from these books was sexual tension. The breh-hedden did much of the work to create this mystical pull for each couple that they never had the type of resistance that makes for a compelling spark that starts a relationship. Sure, they had been shacking up for a century but now they are discovering themselves in a whole different situation. Plus, Marguerite gives Thorne a hell of a time to really win her over. Oh that plus their sex is definitely steamier! Bonus points for that.

Book Cover
Still the warrior on this cover has SHORT hair. At least they tried to get Marguerite’s new look correct. Though this nasty grey overcast gives them this nasty pallor.

I don't know...
I like it...
Then I don't like it...
Then I put down the book....
I pick it up again...

Okay
So the story goes Marguerite is an Obsidian Red Seer with exceptional strength and ability to go pure vision. She is also a sex doll with an unending hunger for men. Thorne had been her lover for the hundred years she spent in a Convent because her parents wanted the shit beaten out of her for even thinking the word sex. Didn't work like they wanted to.

And now, after all the pains that Thorne has gone through....not to mention put everluvin Endelle through....Marguerite ups and leaves to chase freedom. Something she has never known because of the remarkably asinine lack of rights that Seers have.

Thorne begs to differ.

He chases after the woman whose scent won't leave him alone or let him have peace.

And whaddya know?

Thorne is as Obsidian too!

Can't tell more...

Last thing though

Casimir....

Can I just say he is the bad boy I wanna fuck?

So...
All in all, the book had all of the components that a book needs to have. It made me laugh, made me whine, made me want to bitch slap Thorne and his breh and made me want to cry.

Notice I said made me.

I don't know...

It was a very good one time read.

But it felt like the author wasn't feeling everything that she had written, ya know.

It was like she got all the emotions right at all the required scenes. And I do mean all of them. But it was too perfect.

And I like my characters to be not be perfect.

But it was a real good read.

What a ride reading this book...

OMG.. Marguerite... at the beginning of the book until about half of it, I really want to strangle her real tight about a million time.. her behaviour toward Thorne, just made me sooo unhappy..

Yes, I know she was imprisoned in this Convent for the last century and dreaming about freedom constantly for that long time, but not without say some goodbye or something at all to her lover for the last 10 decades.

Thorne, on the other hand, maybe just need some time off from battling the hellions of pretty boys for 2 millenia, when the breh-hedden struck, just another reason for take a deep breath off the war.
I really love his unselfishness concerning Marguerite, he really.. really understand what her heart's desire most, freedom, despite his inability to suppress the jealousy and territorial feeling toward Marguerite.

Their journey away from Second Earth brought some fruitful result to Second Earth indeed, like found great-grandson of Jean-Pierre or the Seer colony on Mortal Earth. Oh, and also those emerging power inside each of Marguerite and Thorne.

One thing made me kinda sad, about Endelle losing his one companion for these times, and feeling so lonely just behind her supreme bitchiness toward others. Also appearance of Braulio, the former lover (I guess 'still' more correct word) of Endelle, brought some hot and cold reaction from Endelle, made me crawl for their story (I hope really soon).

Just read the book, and you will hooked up to the story real fast..

A little bit of background first, if you're new to the World of Ascension series. The series revolves around a group of elite warriors, the Warriors of the Blood, who are vampires. With wings. Yep, that's right. Stay with me, now--they're pretty cool. They keep Mortal Earth safe from death vampires. Mortal Earth, you ask? You see, there are dimensional worlds, and the Warriors of the Blood have ascended to Second Earth. There is a nasty war going on for both Mortal Earth and Second Earth, and the Warriors of the Blood are on the front lines. Recently, the Warriors have been finding their mythical brehs, or soul mates. These brehs have powers of their own, and are completing the warriors and joining forces with them.

Got all that?

And now for Obsidian Flame.

Marguerite is a seer who was locked up in a convent for one hundred years. Thorne, the leader of the Warriors of the Blood, was her secret lover for all that time. When she was freed in the last book, Born of Ashes, she wanted nothing more than her freedom and she fled to Mortal Earth to live large. When Obsidian Flame opens, she's picking up a man in a bar...

OBSIDIAN FLAME by Caris Roane is an interesting paranormal romance. It is the book #5 in the “Guardians of Ascension”,while this is my first in this series, and a bit confusing at times do the character layout,it was easily to catch up on. I would recommend to start at the beginning of this series. See,” Ascension”,”Burning Skies”,”Wings of Fire”, and “Born of Ashes”. It is a complex, compelling and powerful story of passion, vampires, seers, ancients warriors, two earths, with a few twists and turns. Follow, Warrior Thorne is the Guardians leader, and his fiesty Breh,Marguerite,as they journey through trials, fight the Breh, and find love. Written with vivid descriptions and compelling characters you will not want to miss this story. This author has given her readers a different take on vampires and the other world. While, this was my first title by this author it will not be my last. If you enjoy the darker side of paranormal romance you will definitely enjoy this series. Received for an honest review from the publisher. Details can be found at St. Martin’s Press, the author’s website and My Book Addiction and More.

4.5stars -- A book deserving of Thorne

This outing has the leader of the WotB’s (Thorne) chasing his lady love(Marguerite) around mortal earth as she chases her freedom from the convent. Thorne has abandoned his duties, leaving the men shorthanded; he’s also separated himself from Endelle. Marguerite is determined that she will have more than her share of men and has no intention of exchanging the prison of the convent for the prison of 2nd earth – she will be free at all costs.

With Thorne & Marguerite’s romance on the front burner, the back-end is overflowing with overall arc information. Plot elements included Greaves and his henchmen furthering his nefarious plot for world domination; Endelle; a twist for an upcoming breh-hedden; a turned traitor; grand spectacles and new powers. This busy storyline comes together well as the fast pace slots everything together well.
Marguerite was annoying through quite a bit of the book and her romance with Thorne is different than those of the other Warriors & their lady loves.

As I anxiously await the next installment I really hope it isn’t the last of the series.

I wasn't a big fan of Marguerite going into this book. And it took a while to warm up to her, Marguerite was all about freedom and being away from Thorne and Woe is me I'm a seer Obsidian Flame and I don't want to be. It came across as being incredibly selfish to me.

The background plot elements were very interesting.

I AM TEAM OBSIDIAN POWER! I'm thinking of getting a T-Shirt done.

There are 2 reasons why this book is my favourite in the series.

One....I've been dying to read about Thorne's story from the last instalment and quite frankly since CR wrote about his gravelly voice.

Plus points that is breh is one kick ass BITCH that I just love with a name like Marguerite. Huh go figure!

The story of hidden colonies on Mortal earth is something that just blew me away. I mean as it was conjuring u worlds of mists which are delicate cob web domes was amazing but having a colony on earth with green moss domes DAYUMMM!

I also like how we're introduced to Arthur JP's great grandson. He sounds too delish for words.

The second reason why I loved this book is because the story of Endelle is developed more here with Braulio triggering something that with that damn bite. It also shows us that Braulio is in love with her....AWWWWW.

But we're left hanging not knowing what the upper dimensions want.

BRING ON THE GUARDIANS OD ASCENSION!
