I really wanted to like this book. After reading an excerpt of the first chapter, I was very excited to read the rest. Unfortunately, I did not find that the rest of the book lived up to its potential.

I can't pinpoint exactly what I didn't like. The book felt choppy to me. Like the pacing was all off. And there were parts that had me completely baffled as to why the author would do that to these characters.

In the summer of 1814, St James’s Palace is host to His Royal Highness Prince Randolph of Petersbourg, and it is no secret that at the end of his stay the prince intends to take his future queen home with him. Deeply romantic, he wants to marry for love and not for duty. Lady Alexandra Monroe attends the royal introductory reception with the aim of winning the heart of Prince Randolph, but she is not alone:

Honestly. This whole evening was nothing short of a bloodthirsty cutthroat competition. Al

Be My Prince is the first book in the Royal Trilogy. I have never heard of this author before, until my co-worker lend me her book.

The few pages are promising. The premise is a pageturner, despite it having lots of eye-rolling moments.

Spoilers ahead!
Lady Alexandra Monroe has been secluded almost all her life. She was called the Hidden Gem of England. The only reason she has been brought out of society was because of the arrival of Prince Randolf of Petersbourg. Rumors have been spreading, that t
Overall, not bad but I got very frustrated when both of the secrets were revealed (thankfully, fairly quickly in the story) and the heroine forgave the hero easily but the hero didn't forgive the heroine at all and then proceeded not to trust her for the rest of the book. The ending picked back up and I am very anxious to read the next book even though this one fell a little short for me.

What an excruciating audio book. Hated the H, didn't understand the h, and talk about predictible. The narration only made it worse. Not my cuppa, full review to come.

A very quick, easy and enjoyable read. Perfect for those who are just getting into the historical romance genre! It is pretty insta-lovey but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The plot twists were fairly predictable but still cute so just an overall enjoyable read. I will say the hero "Prince Nicholas" did have his moments especially in the final half of the story where he grew to be pretty annoying and Alexandra was way too tolerant of his crap! I think Julianne MacLean has a lot of potential ...more

This book was ok but just lacked something to hold my interest. I really liked the overall plot line but all the trust issues and greater machinations of the subsequent characters was all over the place - one minute on, the next off, and the ending seemed very rushed. I am hoping that there is more order to the second book and that some of the unfinished business of book 1 will be resolved. I'll certainly give it a go.

I have read other books by this author and she is great..usually. This book didnt do it for me, the writing style was crap, like she was telling us the story instead of us reading it.

Be My Prince is book 1 in Julianne MacLean’s newest trilogy. Having read everything that Ms. MacLean has published in the past, I eagerly looked forward to her newest book. While not necessarily unique, the plot sounded very appealing. I do not want to give away any spoilers but let’s just say the synopsis on the back of the book does not do justice for all the twists and turns the story ta

BE MY PRINCE is my first novel by Julianne MacLean. As the first book in the Royal Trilogy, I have to say that I was very intrigued by the idea surrounding this series. Upon starting this book, I knew right off the bat that I liked MacLean’s writing style. It’s unique and runs very smoothly and I think this is very important in any book, but most importantly in a historical romance.

Lady Alexandra Monroe is in a predicament. Her family’s fortune is dwindling so in order

If what I want conflicts with what I must have, how do I choose?

When you are destined to be queen there is not much you will not do to make sure that dream comes true. Lady Alexandra pretends to be just another woman in search of a love match when in fact she is chasing after His Royal Highness, Prince Randolph of Petersbourg. Julianne MacLean was a great new find with her Scottish warriors trilogy. I was very excited to jump right in to see where her new series would take me. This time we're traversing the London ballrooms as Alexandra tries to win the heart of Prince Randolph of Petersbourg. Alexandra knows she can't be distracted from her goal, becoming the queen of Petersbourg, but her attraction to Randolph's younger brother, Nicholas, leads her astray. But neither Nicholas nor Alexandra are being entirely truthf ...more

New Trilogy - The Royal Trilogy. Lady Alexandra Monroe was born to inherit the St. Petersbourg throne. Her father and mother were both taken captive when her mother was a few months pregnant when the people of St. Petersbourg go into revolution mode. She is taken in by a man who was an aide to her father the king and finds her a family who is happy to take her in. She grows up not aware of who she is until years after the death of her parents, in the care of the Duke and her Stepmother who adopt ...more

A quick-paced and entertaining read. This story could have easily been bogged down with convoluted plots to overthrow the royal family or with chapters of back story. Thankfully, the author revealed just enough for me to get the picture on what motivated the characters and to propel the story along smoothly. Because of their instant attraction, Alexandra and Randolph's romance was quick to take off. I love it when the hero is convinced early on that he wants to marry his lady; I find it incredib ...more

Such an interesting premise. I love the idea of a princess of deposed monarchs going after her crown. I love the idea of a prince concealing his identity.

I give this 3.5 stars because she gave me conflict that was different from normal romance fare. She gave me intrigue and danger. However the execution of the story left something to be desired. I believe the author has great potential but needs some more practice. There just wasn't enough feeling for me. She was trying to put so much in the boo

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little hesitant going into this book and I'm not going to lie. I skimmed a lot of it which is sad because I thought the idea behind the story was a good one and I wanted to see where she went with it. However, I had a major problem with the fact that the hero just couldn't let go of the heroine's secret even though he essentially had the entire book to do so and she never gave him a reason to doubt her. It's hard to read a story when one of the main cha ...more
Despite the lack of emotional depth and connection, it has a good plot which I find quite entertaining.

Instead of falling in love with the handsome future king, Alex find herself attracted to his younger brother instead. Despite her mother's disapproval, she was ready to leave her family and eloped with Prince Nicholas but things are not what it seems.

3.5 stars, man alive, they really need to give you an option to leave half stars.

Be My Prince was a good book and I did more than just "like" it. The story was good and moved along at a pretty good clip, which is the way I like it. The only thing was, much like the heroine in this tale, I found myself wanting to throttle the hero. Don't get me wrong, the sexy times were hot and he was sexy as heck, but good lord talk about thick to get the point. I wish I could say more but I'm afraid it would

What girl doesn't want (secretly, at least) to be a princess? It's a Jungian archetype that's been around since the beginning of time. This book didn't do the fantasy any favors. Instead, when Alexandra Monroe lands Prince Randolph in no time flat, what follows is bland, passion-less, and cliche. Their secrets and twists are obvious a mile away, their love rushed, and the sex scenes may as well be done by sock puppets. The first chapter seemed promising and Alexandra's secret should have stirred ...more

I would have liked this story a whole lot more if there had been more actual depth to the plot and characters. The big obstacle in the way of the happily ever after was the same from the start, and so were their arguments with each other and themselves why they can't be happy. Get over it! The minute things got sort of interesting with the attempted assassination was when the author decided to abruptly tie things up and end it, supposedly setting up the next in the series... which I will not be ...more

I have to say, first of all, that Julianne MacLean is another one of my favorite authors. Her Pembroke Palace series is absolutely wonderful, and I like how we introduce the duchess at the beginning of this book ;) There were a lot of positive elements here -- from secret identities (which, I believe, you can never go wrong!), to conspiracy and surprising details. However, I felt there were parts where the story was choppy, and perhaps didn't flow as well. I also wish there had been more to the ...more

I liked the plot but there was something missing in the characters and their interactions. I can't quite put my finger on what was missing, just that it didn't have enough of a spark to make me want to give it more than an average rating. And the ending was almost too unrealistic to me because of all the drama along the way...made the reconciliation between the two main characters somewhat forced and, well, unrealistic. I may read the second book just to see if things improve and there's more sp ...more
A good book, however it gets a 3star based on the plot being a bit predictable. There wasn't much action in this novel or grand sword fights, a little bit of cloak and dagger in the whole who can I trust thing. But honestly as much as I enjoyed this novel and as well written as it was I find myself missing a bit of action and events, things that would make this more than just a romance perhaps. Good romance read though.
