Atkinson obviously took detailed notes while embarking on his rugby adventures, and it brings his yarns to bright and vivid life. No one captures the elegant violence of rugby, and the band-of-brothers ethos on and off the field, better than Atkinson. He's also a protege of Harry Crews, and that makes for some fun tales.

This is a very interesting book, if, a huge if, you are really interested in rugby. Too much description of matches, too many locations shsifts, nothing to really grab on to about the author or his real life off the pitch. I played for 6 or so years and I enjoy rugby a great deal but this is a little over the top.

This book rekindled fond memories of my rugby playing days in the 70's & 80's. The book is a bit self-absorbed but it is a memoir after all. Not sure if the camaraderie and beauty of the sport is conveyed to people not familiar with rugby.

Overall, eh. The writing was good, solid, and his love for the sport and most aspects of the lifestyle really comes across well. Just not a book I'll need to read again, and that could've ended a few pages earlier, you know?

Great pleasure to relive rugby highlights from pitches around the world. Even though the songs and kangaroo courts may differ, in essence brotherhood is global.

A well written book about rugby, a sport I played for many years. The greatest sport ever played.
