"Larry Kahn has managed to create a cast of unforgettable characters, throwing in a bit of sex and misadventure, while infusing it with legal, moral, and ethical dilemmas. To say that I thought the King of Paine was brilliantly written would be an understatement. I sat down to read the book in the morning and was unable to put it down until I read the very last page!"-The ...more

I wrote it, so naturally I think it's worth a read!
Before I had heard of this novel, I had just finished reading THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. A novel I had not heard of either but that had been given to me by a friend. I wasn't quite sure what to think of the title (girl with a dragon tattoo) and really had no idea exactly what it was about. Let me just say that I enjoyed it GREATLY. Only days after finishing that novel, author Larry Kahn was offering some free copies of his novel -- KING OF PAINE -- here on Goodreads of where I was greatly ...more

The internet offers a cloak of invisibility, a chance to be someone you are not. But the cloak doesn’t really offer the safety of anonymity. It only hides the bearer for a short time, and the consequences of being de-cloaked are often much worse than one would think.

In King of Paine by Larry Kahn, we are taken into the back stages of internet chat rooms, in an effort to find a killer. Frank Paine is not just a ne

I finished Larry's new book "King of Paine" last night. I will have to say it is an amazing book. I really enjoyed reading it. Larry has wrote a wonderful book with well developed characters with a very interesting plot. Beware this review may contain spoilers.

The book starts out with an ex-actor that has completed his training at Quantico. Frank Paine is a rookie agent new to the job and everything about law enforcement. He learns that life in law enforcement is totally different than law enfor

The King of Paine - Great Mystery/Thriller at Steal of a Price

Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Author: Larry Kahn
Format: Kindle, Paperback

Busting open the hotel door, Frank Paine finds a woman gagged and bound to the bed as a black-masked man stands over her while a tripod mounted camera records the rape. The masked man claims the entire affair is a role play they had both agreed to through an online BDSM chat room. The girl, however, thought she was simply living out a non-contact encounter. In reality, b

Frank Paine is far from your typical FBI Special Agent. An ex-Hollywood stud, he’s on a mission to clean up his act and make up for his wrong doings. Sometimes, however, it’s hard to take the actor out of the agent.

The newest member of the FBI’s Atlanta Field Office, Paine’s world takes a hard hit when an e-mail comes in. The Innocent Images Unit, a small team of cyber agents, is working to catch a suspected pedophile, but the e-mail is directed at Paine. It uses phrases from his dark past that

When I begin a new book and see that the author has structured the story as parallel narratives, I know that I’m going to either be intrigued or frustrated. Writing a successful novel using the technique requires a deft hand. Larry Kahn has succeeded in making each of the two elements enjoyable while incrementally bringing them together to reach the final conclusion.

The characters, major and minor, in "King of Paine" are well drawn and interesting. Frank Paine has a unique background and curre

King of Paine by Larry Kahn is an exciting fast paced read. Frank, the main character is fresh out of Quantico and ready to take down some criminals. Frank is an actor turned FBI agent who also has a penchant for kinky online role-play rooms. After failing to help the one person who needed him, Frank changed careers and started a twelve step program to leave the past behind. But, before he can truly get started, his past catches up to him. Somehow, someone in Atlanta knows his secret and is usin ...more

Larry Kahn's King of Paine is a well written story full of action pack suspense. This is the kind of book where you can open it on ANY page and the story just pulls you in. It's that good! I can honestly say I was hooked from beginning to end. Although I lost a bit of sleep, I had a blast reading it! There's definitely some saucy scenes in this book, so I only recommend this for adults. I have to say one of my favorite things about Kahn's writing is every chapter has a fantastic opening. This novel held a few surprises for me. I, of course, was aware of the practice of BDSM but never put much thought to the role discretion played. Absolute trust even beyond that called for in normal sexual relationships is paramount. If that trust were broken it very well could mean a life. I never know what I’m going to get into when I start a new book. The author moved me to a new expectation for suspense.

He builds his case from many directions and it just seemed that around each corner was a

King of Paine is the second book I have read this year that I thought would make a great movie. Where else could you find a story about a Hollywood actor who turns his back on fame and becomes a real FBI agent? It's one of those stories where things seem a bit disjointed and unrelated in the beginning. But, if you just trust in the author, things slowly begin to fit together. The plot of this book was very well laid out and was not what I was suspecting. Honestly, to talk too much about the plot ...more

This is a great book with multiple characters, murder, and redemption.

The other reviewers have mentioned all of the important "pieces" to the story so I won't go into those.

However, I will say that I like Larry Kahn's writing style. It has a nice flow page after page. The story itself kept me guessing and while I usually have no qualms about reading the ending first, I did not do that with this one! The story line was fast paced enough that I did not feel like jumping ahead.

This is a highly enjoyable and engaging thriller that grips you very early on and refuses to let go! Don't let yourself be put off by the mentions of BDSM either because there is nothing very explicit in the text and in fact much of what Mr. Kahn mentioned is very tame, carrying only the merest hint of eroticism. The characters are well conceived too and the way the two plot threads eventually string together is very cleverly done. I'll

Frank Paine was once an actor, in fact he was a sex symbol. But now he's traded in close-ups for a badge and a gun. The actor turned Federal Agent finds himself at the heart of an investigation that puts his past center stage. When the clues point back to a scorned love (who maybe the love of his life), Frank is forced to face the indiscretions of his past head on.

King of Paine is more than a suspense novel. It's a story that asks hard questions, it makes you think about who you are and what yo

This is a novel for adults and if you are squeamish about the realm of BDSM it might not be for you. That said, however, the novel is not about BDSM - although it does play a part in this story of an ex-Hollywood-actor-turned-FBI agent, the woman he did wrong, and a conscienceless murderer who needs to be caught.

Larry Kahn follows the formula of a good suspense novel - he doles out little bits of clues that keep you hanging on and wanting to keep reading until you have solved the riddles he has

When I saw the cover of "King of Paine" I really wasn't sure about it, a woman who appears to be on a leash and a synopsis about kinky internet activities left me a little bit wary. However, as always this is a good example of not being swayed by a title or a cover as I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable novel.

The story follows Frank Paine, a newbie FBI agent who has given up the glamour of being a Hollywood actor in an attempt to atone for actions committed in his secret past. However, when

I was a little skeptical that this book was that similar to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but I found that I enjoyed it just as much as that book and it is a little similar.

One of the more dynamic, and consequently, main character is Frank. Frank kept my attention throughout the book. He wasn't the typical FBI or Hollywood actor type at all. He has kinky secrets in his closet, ones he doesn't like to advertise and more often than not leads him to ask f

I have to admit that I had a hard time following this book. At first it seemed like there were two stories in the book and I was trying to figure out how they would be linked. I had a hard time keeping track of the characters for this reason.

I could tell that the author did research in order to write this book. It seems like a lot of books lately seem to be focusing on online chatting, and this book falls into this category. It is good that the author is up on what is current. The King of Paine

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my review. Although this came with a warning about the content, I didn't find it any worse than some of the stuff they show on TV or the stuff found in many romance novels. Frank Pain is an ex-Hollywood actor who has a kinky past and is now an FBI agent. He uses his past knowledge of the BDSM to solve a murder case which is part of something more. I won this book in the Good Reads first reads giveaway. The book was recommended to those who enjoyed the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. I didn't see many similarities between the two books. It took me awhile to start enjoying this one. I was uncomfortable with some of the bondage stuff in the first 150 pages. When the plot of the book switched more to The River and the disappearances, I enjoyed it much more.
