Nothing ruins a peaceful morning walk like finding a blood-spattered body. And Daisy Greene and Rose Forrest, sisters and co-owners of Champagne Taste, really need a peaceful morning walk. They have enough on their minds already. Christmas is right around the corner, business is brisk, and their little antiques district of Old Towne is being plagued with petty thievery and vandalism. Murder is just not in the game plan.
And if finding bodies lying around walking trails isn't enough to destroy a perfectly good day, Daisy's ex-husband, state trooper Bill Greene, shows up to investigate the murder. Nosy by nature anyway, Daisy takes Bill’s presence as a challenge to find the murderer.
When Daisy and Rose start asking questions things get hairier. Someone begins stalking them. Daisy receives threatening letters and is brutally attacked.
Their determination grows when clues lead to a missing priceless diamond and the man Daisy is dating becomes the next victim. With the help of their eccentric mother, Angela, and their hormonally-exuberant dog, Malcolm, they follow the clues to catch a killer.
After their aunt died she left her entire estate to the Forest sisters. Ready for a change the renovated the upstairs into an apartment and turned the downstairs into a store called Champagne Taste. Everything was wonderful until a series of break-ins started happing in their neighborhood the sisters decided to get an alarm system and a dog. Both turned out to be more than they bargained for especially with their eccentric mother, libidinous dog, an ex-husband, and a murder mystery are thrown into the mix. Short in stature but big in heart this little who done it murder mystery is well worth the read the characters are believable and the comic relief of the overactive dog really moves the plot along. If you like mysteries, romance, and animals then this little book is a great read.
Couldn't bring myself to finish this book. Read probably the first 100 pages and was pretty formulaic. Maybe the author has some big twist at the end of this "mystery," but it all seems pretty obvious. The dialog was very stilted. Was written by a friend of a friend, so I wanted to like it, just not my style.
A fun read if I do say so myself. An off the wall "cozy" mystery set in a small antiques suburb of Washington DC sisters Daisy and Rose find a body and hunt down a murderer with the help of their rather eccentric mother, Angela, and their 'humping hound' Malcolm. Great reading to relax with.
Daisy and Rose are two sisters who own a gift shop in a small town. There have been robberies in business in their area, but the two sisters get even more worried when, added to the thefts, there is a dead body in town.
I always enjoy a cozy mystery, so I took the plunge into this one. The story was okay, I was able to guess the murder about halfway in but there weren’t so many characters that had a clear presence from the beginning. The characters were not very developed, which often happens in this kind of book, but it just didn’t work here because both sisters were too similar. A sidekick is often used in cozy mysteries to be able to discuss the case and bounce hypotheses from each other, so I understand why the author decided to include two sisters, but there weren’t any clear aspects that made them different. Their conversations felt too stilted, and the lack of descriptions didn’t help. Also, both were named after flowers, which made them even more similar.
Rose and Daisy own a dog. Animals are common in cozy mysteries, and we often see their owners taking care of their pets. The two sisters often go on walks with Malcolm, but we never see them giving him a bowl of food or water. They also never showed any feelings for him apart from annoyance. In fact, there are several insensitive comments about pets in the book that rubbed me off the wrong way. Something atypical for the genre that didn’t help in making the main characters likable.
The two sisters and their modern are a fun trio but I wasn’t invested enough in the story or the characters to care too much about the outcome of the crime. I just went along with it.
One of the things that mostly threw me off was Kim Rossi’s narration. All sentences were delivered with constant pauses in the wrong places, and she often enunciated things like a news anchor talking about the last catastrophe in the world. The characters sounded different from each other, which was good, but the interpretations and voices were overdone, many times sounding cartoonish. I had a hard time trying to finish this book, and it took me a long time despite it being only six hours long.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
A good cozy mystery draws you in with an idyllic setting and likeable characters. Ideally you feel as though you are having a good time in a lovely place with friends (and soon to be friends) and suddenly... Danger! Excitement! and then you pull together, come through it, and all have a nice cup of tea (and maybe a recipe to share) at the end. The murder (it's almost always a murder) is a frightening puzzle to be solved, but never a personal tragedy.
This is that. Exactly. The town is fun (it helps that I've been to Olde Town Bowie), the people quirky and personable, and the mystery is solvable (the author plays fair with clues, a big plus) even if the motive is a bit off. Fun! I'm going to dive right into the next book in the series.
Full Disclosure: I received a free, signed copy of this book from a family acquaintance.
This book was just okay for me. The audiobook narrator wasn't a good fit, in my opinion. Her delivery of the dialogue didn't flow very smoothly. She would randomly emphasize the wrong word. Or make it sound like Every. Word. Had. A. Period. After. It. It was very annoying. Who talks like that?
I did enjoy the relationship between the sisters and their mother. The scenes where all 3 of them were together were my favorites.
The mystery itself was pretty meh to me. I thought some of the connections the girls put together to get their clues were extremely farfetched. Especially the "note" one. But at least it kept the story moving.

This is the first book in the Daisy and Rose Mystery series. What a fun start to the series! There's lots of humor, quirky but believable characters and a dog you just can't help but enjoy. My favorite character is Angela, the mother of the main characters Rose and Daisy. She is so charming and funny, plus she likes her cocktails. The mystery was clever with a few good twists thrown in.
The narrator, Kim Rossi, narrates the first two book in this series. She does a very good job and has distinctive voices for the various characters.
Two sisters run a shop by day and sleuth by night. Rose and Daisy, along with their dog Malcolm and mother Angela, get caught up in a cozy mystery involving a missing diamond. This book started off slowly. I finally got into it halfway through. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator's voice was quite slow and seemed to put emphasis on the wrong words.
*I received this book free for the purpose of this review but my thoughts are my own.
This is the first book in the Daisy and Rose Mystery Series. This is a fun cozy mystery, entertaining, and intriguing. The characters are great and the storyline is well written and captivating. Kim Rossi did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Roses Are Dead My Love. I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The book is a fine cozy about friends who run shops and have interesting friends and relatives. Of course there's a murder! Their sleuthing is complicated by a goofy mother of one of them, a detective who is an ex-husband, an amorous new dog ,a spate of petty thefts, and a fabulous stolen diamond. The book is a riot! The narrator has a very interesting style. I won the audio in a giveaway.
I LOVED this book!!! I will warn you, don't read it in public because you will laugh out loud and embarrass yourself. It is well written with a great storyline. The characters are wonderful! Not the kind of book I would normally pick up to read but I'm a fan now!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This story was so good! I loved the narrator. She did a great job with all the different voices. I love Daisy and Rosie. I would read more by this author.
A cute cozy mystery that's enjoyable and you enjoy the characters you come across, quirky and otherwise. It had humor and a sharp wit and some laugh out loud moments. Rose was a hoot. The mystery was a good listen, So when you gt a chance pick up a copy and enjoy.
I enjoyed this book. This is book number one in a fun cozy mystery series, that isn't to complicated but interesting enough to keep you listening until the end. I liked the unique hiding places that the author came with up and think hide and seek in her house must have been fun. The mystery was good but the clues were to obvious and despite the author trying to plant red herrings I did know who the killer was, okay maybe I didn't guess at the last hiding place of the diamond. Still a good listen and I liked the characters and I want to say the dog but some of his actions had me rolling my eyes instead of laughing. The mum is good for a chuckle though. With a number of the small town shops having been broken into, sisters Daisy and Rose get an alarm system and a crazy dog to protect they shop and home. But instead of protecting them the dog leads them to a dead homeless man. Was he the one breaking into the shops and if so who killed him? If he wasn't why was he killed? The break ins themselves are strange nothing seems to be taken and it is more like someone is looking for something. With Daisy's cheating ex husband investigation the case, the pair decide if they want to stay safe and stop him from arresting the man showing an interest in Daisy then they will have look into the burglaries and the murder themselves. With Christmas right around the corner things are picking up in the shop, will they have enough time for some late night breaking and entering themselves? Teach there dog some manners? Go on a treasure hunt for a stolen diamond? Catch up on some light reading to unearth clues about the heist that set everything in motion? Catch a killer and have a party? On the whole I liked the narrator but one of the characters was very annoying. I don't know if she was trying to give her an accent or what but she seemed to pause between each word when that character was talking. Otherwise she was fine. ( Format : Audiobook ) " What once was lost. " Such an enjoyable book. Two sisters, Rose and Daisy, recent joint owners of a shop in an usually quiet area, are disturbed by a number of local break one and are given a smart but over enthusiastic dog by the quirky, semi alcoholic mother and together they all get drawn into crime solving. There's an ex husband there, too, and the hint of a microfinance to come, plus other assorted shop running characters, most of whom seem as scary as the central sisters. Silly, yes. Fun? Outstanding.
With so much of the story dependant on conversation, a really good narrator is essential. Kim Rossi almost achieves this. Her reading of the text is excellent, her warm and very peasant presentation pulling the reader into the stkry, and her voicing of the main characters is similarly sulerb. However, although she gives individually distinctive voice to all, a couple just don't seem to fir, with one shop keeper Being positively annoying and marring the overall performance.
I was fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy of Roses and Daisies and Death, Oh My! by the rights holder, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. It was a deliciously fun cozy mystery even if somewhat formulaic, populated with delightful, if dotty, people - although how they put up with that dog is a mystery in itself! Alsso included at the close of the book are nine cocktail recipes so the reader can join in with the alcoholic fun. Hopefully, this is the first in a series and I look forward to more.
Roses and Daisies and Death Oh My! was a fabulous mystery that was hard to stop listening to. I listened in two straight sittings it was so good. The characters were realistic but not always likable. It was longer for a "cozy mystery" and had a lot of aspects that make it a cozy mystery. However, I would not classify this as super cozy. I found it to be more of a clean mystery but not overly cutesy. I did figure out the mystery but not until closer to the end of the story.
Kim Rossi has very distinct voices for each of the characters. I knew exactly who was talking strictly on her voices. However, I did find a few voices hard to listen to. I think this was by design but did make some parts a little more unpleasant to the ear.
I did receive a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.
Crazy good book. Two sisters living together and working together and their mom gets them a dog who is the best! I actually guessed who it was early on in the book but it was one of those “it would be funny if it was them.” Come to find out later in the book I was right and definitely didn’t see the connection of why. Definitely keeps you pulled in different directions on who is killing and attacking everyone. A good mystery novel. Love it.
