K'wan

In 2002 K'wan hit the scene with his debut novel Gangsta, under Triple Crown Publications. It was the first novel released by the budding house and would eventually become the building block for what is now a multimillion dollar company. What started as a therapeutic release went on to become a part of urban-lit history and an Essence bestseller, as well as drawing rave reviews overseas.
After penning his second novel, Road Dawgz (2003), K'wan drew the attention of St. Martins press. The literary powerhouse quickly signed K'wan to a multi-book deal, the first of which being Street Dreams (2004). In 2008 he received the Black Author of the year award from Black Press Radio for the novella Blow.
Since his insertion into the publishing world K'wan has been featured in Vibe, Pages, King, Felon, Big News, The Library Journal, Entertainment Weekly, The New York Press, Clutch and most notably Time Magazine, to name a few. He was also interviewed by MTV News for a feature on Hip-Hop fiction, and a guest on Power 105s morning show as well as NPR (national public radio). In addition to being an accomplished author, K'wan is also a motivational speaker, mentor to at risk children and the C.E.O of Black Dawn, Inc.
K'wan currently resides in New Jersey where he is working on his next novel.

Eviction Notice takes place two years after Welfare Wifeys and leads straight into the Animal Series 😩🔥

“Get word to your friends and loved ones, T. Tell them that they might wanna stay off the streets for a time. The sky is gonna rain blood over Harlem, and I don’t care too much who gets wet.”

Taking You Back…

K’wan is back taking readers on another hood tour and the first stop is Harlem’s Douglass Projects. Fans of K’wan’s novels are well aware of the movers and shakers in the Douglass houses and happily many of them are back for cameo appearances. It takes a skilled writer to be able to update readers on past characters while still engaging them with a new tale. But K’wan manages to catch readers up on characters he introduced not just in the Hood Rat series but from as far back as Road Dawgs, Street Dreams & Hoodlum while still establishing the new characters of Eviction Notice; Porsha, Sahara, Frankie and King James.

Porsha, Sahara and Frankie are roommates sub-leasing an apartment from Debbie who did the girls dirty by squandering away their rent money while fully living up to her trifling reputation. Leaving the girls with just a little over 72 hours to come up with the money or be tossed out onto the streets. King James has been home from prison a little over two years while he’s already making moves he has bigger plans on solidifying his hold on the Harlem streets. But when his work turns up on one of Shai Clark’s corners a war ensues that will ultimately result in an Animal being released!

Those are the only hints I’m giving as to which old characters resurface or are at least given updates through cleverly placed mentions. But what I will say is that at several places throughout the book I found my mouth hanging wide open. With promises of the next installment being the bloodiest ever some of the well appointed re-acquaintances just might prove to be short-lived. Because as with all Killa K’wan novels anyone can get it from protagonist to antagonist even innocent bystanders can catch a bad one. Proof as to why K’wan is more than 10 books strong in the urban lit field. He’s blessed with an ability to effectively spin tales that are fiction but yet still somehow read like hard facts.

Eviction Notice By Kwan

The Streets Will Never Be The Same.

What can I say that I haven't said already or that others haven't said? Kwan is one of the greatest street lit authors on the market past and present. I have been a supporter for a long time and with the quality stories this author is putting out, I will continue to be a supporter. I have never read an authors work that makes you want to go back and reread their earlier work. While reading "Eviction Notice" I was saying, “damn I need to go revisit some old friends”. I hope others can pick up on Kwan zest and flair for being able to have a standalone book (although this is book five in series) AND keep you up to date on earlier characters. I love how he tied some of his earlier works together while allowing the reader to keep up.

The introduction of some new characters: Porsha, Frankie and Sahara keep the story moving right along. They are the main characters and roommates who receive eviction notice.  They will have you laughing, yelling, and almost crying at/with the antics and situations they get themselves in.

The answers are in about Animal. Picks up right where Section 8 left off and you won’t be disappointed. If you are a fan of this series, this book is worth it just to find out those details. Introduction of King James was a great plot although at times I wanted to shoot him myself. Looking forward to seeing how things progress or not with him. Shai Clark is back a crowd favorite. Music Mogul Don B is back and he still up to his old trick. We do get to see the business side of him and see that it’s not just dumb luck he on top.  If you’re a true die hard supporter, you will enjoy catching up on some of his earlier work. I'm not going to spoil it for you just start flipping pages and you will see who.

If by some chance, you have slept on this author I suggest that you start from the beginning (Gangsta) and work your way up and see what all the hype is about. I guarantee you will be like the rest of and waiting with baited breath for the next release. Those die hard supporters know K’wan releases are around the Sept/ Oct time of year. So get busy because you have some catching up to do

The Hood Is On Fiyah!!

After getting an Eviction notice Porsha, Frankie, and Sahara are angry to find out that the money given to Debbie to pay housing was reassigned to suit her own needs.
Knowing that they're gonna have to deal with slimy Debbie about the stunt she pulled is a given; but the matter at hand is in a few days they will be thrown out onto the streets with their belongings joining the ranks of the homeless.
With a vengeance Porsha, Frankie, and Sahara, each set out to do what they have to do to raise the rent money. On a mission that at first seemed frustrating but obtainable, soon turns into a case of MURDER SHE WROTE!

Just when I was hoping that Don B would show he had a heart somewhere in that big ole chest of his...but nah, he reaches deep down into his bag of tricks, and what he does cements his place among the scum of the earth!

King James is a cocky bastard who feels just because he's flossing a little money and has a street team holding him down that he is King of the world. But when he shows out in front of none other than the legendary Shai Clark and his gangsta squad, the clash between these two shake the hood violently, leaving many scarred, revengeful, and dead. The clash and its casualties is felt even in a far away land where an Animal is about to rise from the dead!!!

There is so much good story to talk about between the 438 pages of this book I can't fit it all in a review.

K'wan has planted many seeds in this story, two of them are Ashanti and Alonzo aka Zo-Pound with that said, the next installment in this series just can't come quick enough for me!

Kwan’s talent has grown by leaps and bounds and his latest book "Eviction Notice" is a testament to this. The whole package is a fantastic Urban Literary Monument that exceeds the best of my expectations in the category of Urban Street Literature!

Awesome audio narration!! I will always get audio when it comes to this author's work!! It is much better for me.

Hood Rat by K'wan ; Still Hood A HoodRat Novel by K'wan ; Section 8 A Hood Rat Novel by K'wan ; The Leak by K'wan ; Welfare Wifeys A Hood Rat Novel (Hood Rat Novels) by K'wan ; The First & Fifteenth A Hood Rat Short An introduction to the novel "No Shade" by K'wan ; No Shade A Hood Rat Novel by K'wan ; Eviction Notice A Hood Rat Novel by K'wan ; Ghetto Bastard by K'wan ; Animal A Hood Rat Novel by K'wan ; Animal 2 The Omen by K'wan ; Animal 3 Revelations by K'wan ; Animal 4 Last Rites by K'wan

K'wan

The correct order to read the Hood Rat Novel series is: Hood Rat, Still Hood, Section 8, Welfare Wifeys, Eviction Notice, & Animal. FYI readers: "The Leak" is a prequel of "Welfare Wifeys"; "The First & Fifteenth" is intro to "No Shade"; "No Shade" is a prequel to "Eviction Notice"; "Ghetto Bastard is the beginning of the Animal series. This is why the books are listed in such order.

In the 3rd installment of the Hood Rat Novel Series: Section 8, Animal is mentioned on page 48, but he's fully introduced on page 80; however, his first-time wrecking havoc is on page 91 as a frail, little, wild-haired boy who introduced himself as Animal on page 92.

In my opinion, The Leak should be a prequel to Section 8.

I love K'wan and what he writes. My all time favorite book is Gansta by K'wan. Then Eve, Section 8 and Eviction Notice. I can't wait for the book Animal. Of all his characters Lou-Loc is my favorite, with Animal coming in a very close second. This is book was the bomb and I would recommend it to all those who love street lit. "TeamAnimal"

Porsha, Frankie and Sahara, three friends living at room mates are the prime example of why you shouldn't live with friends. Especially friends that don't have a steady job, but hustle for the rent.

IT WAS A BETTER READ THAN WELFARE WIFEYS. THOUGH I WAS GLAD THAT ANIMAL WASN'T IN JAIL, I HATED THAT HIS BROTHER JUSTICE HELPED HAVE HIM GELD CAPTIVE & WAS DEVASTATED WHEN ANIMAL & JUSTICE FOUGHT EACH OTHER BECAUSE JUSTICE DIDN'T WANT HIM TO LEAVE PR.
IN MY HEART & HEAD I'D LIKE TO BELIEVE THAT JUSTICE JUST DIDN'T WANT HIS LITTLE BROTHER ANIMAL CAPTURED TRYING TO RE-ENTER THE US OR KILLED IN NY JUST SO HE COULD BE BY GUCCI'S SIDE, WHICH VERY NEARLY OCCURRED TOWARDS THE END OF ANIMAL BOOKS 1 & 2!
ANOTHER THING I HATED WAS RED SONYA & ANIMAL'S 'CLOSE' RELATIONSHIP. I GUESS K'WAN WAS THINKING AHEAD TO ANIMAL BOOK 3 TO PUT ANIMAL IN A REAL HOOD PREDICAMENT.
STILL FAN FOR ANIMAL, GUCCI, ZO-POUND, PORSHCE, ASHANTI, TIONNA!

Porsha, Sahara, and Frankie find out that the money they have been paying for rent, for the apartment they have been subleasing, hasn't been reaching the housing department. They have 72 hours to pay the rent or they will be evicted. I thought that was what this book was going to about, but I was wrong because there were way too many other things going on.

King James decided while serving a bid, that he would take over the streets upon his release....and that's just what he did. With his crew and right-hand man, Lakim his reign begins. Everything is fine until he violates the underworld crime lord, Shai Clark. This is a situation that turns violatile and unleashes the beast....Animal.

Being saved by K-Dawg from a lengthy prison stay, Animal finds himself in Puerto Rico longing for his life as he once knew it. He is missing his muse, Gucci, but he has no idea of how he can get back to her. K-Dawg and Justice have him in the middle of a political war. After being informed that his lady has been critically wounded, nothing will stop Animal from making his way back to her.

Too much going on, with too many characters, and the scenarios were not connected. Each one of these situations could very well be a stand alone book. The book just wasn't a banger book like I know K'Wan can, and have written. IJS

So this book certainly lives up to all the hype...the drama is off the chain and it's raining blood over the hood. When three roommates are delivered a 72-hour eviction notice, they take to the streets to earn the cash to save their ass. Their adventures involve bad ass thugs that make you put extra locks on the doors and bars on the windows. Gangsta's don't respect women and they definitely don't respect the law. The story is a real page turner but the large number of characters will keep your head spinning. The ending was a little predictable but it also left several unanswered questions...so you know another book with these same hood rats is on the horizon. I'll make sure to pre-order that too.

I know this is fiction but can the book be a little more realistic. Don B is still up to his dirty scandalous ways. I can’t understand why the author keeps letting him get away with his BS. Frankie’s incident was clearly self-defense. She could have said that the drugs and the gun were the robbers and they were trying to rape her. I don’t know why these girls think they will change a man. Porsha heard all the warning signs of Don B and still went out with the creep. When a man shows you who they are, believe them. I wanted to read more about Animal and Gucci, it still feels like the author introduces new characters to the series without completing the old characters stories. It would be nice to see some closure from the other books.

K'wan puts this book into a whole new ball game. The situation with Porsha, Frankie, and Sahara takes the book onto a whole new twist that made it all the more better. As far as Animal.........I can't get enough of him!!!!! I'm so ready for Don B. to get his, the things that he seems to get away with while dogging women is something that I want to see get dealt with. It's time for Don B. to cross the wrong woman and get paid. K'wan, I give you all the props, you are an excellent author and will continue to support and read your books. I applaude you, thank you for Eviction Notice. I can't wait for the next installment!!!!!

"You get an eviction and you get an eviction..."
Overall
Performance
Story
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
It was an entertaining listen.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
At times, it seemed the pace was a little slow. It made the story drag.

What three words best describe Cary Hite’s voice?
Powerful, engaging, soothing

Do you think Eviction Notice needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
This book alone? NO? But a final book to wrap up the series? Yes. Each book leaves you with many open storylines.

I enjoyed this book . I enjoying seeing the throwback characters right along with the new characters . I still can't stand Don b. I just hope karma hits him soon ,this man does so much dirt and continues to laugh , smile, and get away with it. I was actually team Porsha in this book , She was a Bad B* but once somebody came around with a lil' bit of money and power baby let her guard down ! I wasn't too much feeling Animal and these War type scenes I was getting , But overall I def. enjoyed this Book.

Oh no. This was the worst two days for Porsha, Sahara, and Frankie. They honestly were just trying to get money for the apartment and ended up worse than they started! Again, K’wan beautifully weaves about six different storylines together by the end and it all makes sense. I don’t like what happened to Frankie. Self defense is self defense and she deserved better. But also what happened between Justice and Animal?! They are blood brothers; does K-Dawg really have that big of a hold on Justice? I guess we will see in the next book.

This book was good!!!!!! Don B is still causing havoc in the lives of those that are impressed with his status as a hip-hop mogul. The Animal is still making his legend be known. The streets are talking and the hood is still up to its usual center of everything with everyone knowing your business. A great book in a memorable series!!!
