The thing about reading any Harlan Coben story is that before you know it you've soaked up half the book!
I have loved reading the Myron and Win books - unfortunately out of order, although they are all easy enough to read as standalones too. This is book number 8 and a great one at that! They are all so easy to read and follow and every story is different, I don't quite know how Harlan comes up with so many different ideas! The characters are brilliant, Myron and Win are just so unique, and I lo

I love Myron Bolitar but this book started off a little bit strangely. Myron was not his normal buccaneering self and the subject matter seemed to be runaway teenagers. But things came good very quickly and then I was totally unable to put the book down. I love the way Win always has Myron's back and also how they are (nearly) always ahead of the game when taking on criminals and thugs. The story line was very involved and the eventual conclusion was totally unpredictable. So sad I only have two ...more

I always enjoy reading about Myron Bolitar and his friends. In this book Myron is older and seems more settled. He has a more mature love interest. He no longer drinks Yoo-Hoo. However, his connection to Win is the same. Win always has Myron's back. The sarcastic humor which is part of Myron's personality is still there. Myron makes a promise to two teenage girls and that promise brings him into a disappearance of one the girls. He has the police thinking of him as a suspect and parents who are ...more

Myron Bolitar is another literary fictional agent similar to James Bond, Hercule Poirot, Dave Robicheaux, Charlie Parker, Elizabeth Costelo or even Robert Langdon. Those are just some that I've encountered in my reading but I am sure you know more of them as I am not really a big fan of mystery thriller genres.

Harlan Coben has Bolitar as his cash cow. Meaning, Bolitar is his recurring character for this series (the 8th, but my first. Yes, I just want to try his book). Bolitar has resigned as an

Promise Me by Harlan Coben is a 2007 Dutton publication.

I’ve been going through this series as quickly as possible, hoping to catch all the way up before ‘Home’ becomes available at the library. So, it was a pretty big jolt when I started this one because apparently there is a huge time gap between book seven and book eight, and it really caught me off guard.

But, once I started reading, I soon realized I have read this book before. It was years ago, and I couldn’t recall all of the key points,

An enjoyable read with a fast pace but let down by a poor ending(s). This was typical Harlan Coben in that you could fly through it, something the short chapters certainly help with, without getting too invested or bogged down.

It’s sort of like a fluffy Dennis Lehane “Kenzie and Gennaro”. The writing styles are pretty similar in a jokey tone but heavy material, the cast of characters are the same apart from there isn’t a Gennaro style female lead (or at least not in this one as Esperanza wa

Harlan Coben you did it again!

Myron is a Sportsagent who has a history with the FBI (he worked for them in the past). One day a family friend of his dissapears, however he feels the need to find her. So he starts an investigation with his partner in crime Win.

This book was another one in his Myron Bolitar series. The book started a bit slowly which reduced my rating to 4 stars, but I can't get enough of the amazing plot twists! Harlan has the gift to keep you on the edge of your seat and to twi

Let me introduce you to Myron Bolitar, one of my favorite characters of all time. He is a former basketball star (blew out his knee after leading Duke to NCAA championship and being drafted by Boston Celtics). He went to law school and became a sports agent. His clients and friends become embroiled in all sorts of crimes and situations. Myron's current flame is a 9/11 widow with 2 children. Myron is concerned that the teenage daughter and her friend might do something dumb so makes them promise ...more

I am reading the books not in particular order, but depending on the mood and desire and description on the book cover.

It turns out that "Promise me" is the eighth in Myron Bolitar series. The basketball player who was injured at the age of 22, he founded an agency representing athletes, accompanied by a variety of bizarre characters.

This time he is asking his friends daughters to call him at any time if they needed help. he promise he will come to their rescue with no questions asked. After Amy

Although this book was very slow to capture my interest and I almost put it down around page 50 and chose another novel, it turned out to be an AMAZING read. I'm REALLY glad i did not give up on this one. It is habitual for me to put down a novel if it hasn't gripped me within the first couple chapters so I almost didn't allow myself the pleasure of this novel. The first couple chapters weren't bad, they were ok, there was just something they didn't have that other favorites of mine did. OH WELL ...more

***3,5*** stars - It's been awhile since I read a Harlan Coben book and it was great to get reacquainted with Myron Bolitar. I think this is one of my favourite Myron stories (to be honest: I read this one before) We get to see a more sensitive side of his personality is revealed. I also liked how he's moving on with his life. I'm like Esperanza; I just never liked Jessica Culver. Ali Wilder on the other hand is a more realistic, "normal" character and I like her very much. I started reading this book this morning while having a late breakfast ... and finished it tonight, before going to bed, because I simply could not put the book down! The novel starts with a series of events that appear to be unconnected, but the protagonist (Myron Bolitar, a professional-class basketball player who got sidelined by a knee injury while in college, went through law school, and now works as a representative (i.q., agent) for actors. Myron overhears two teenage girls (one the daugh ...more
Nežinau nežinau, vis imu tą Harlan Coben, vis nusiviliu ir vis tiek bibliotekoj naujos jo knygos ieškau. Ir manau, jog žinau kodėl tokie dalykai su manimi vyksta - autorius sugebą knygos pradžią parašyti tokią "kabinančią", tokią intriguojančią, kad būdama tokia detektyvų mylėtoja tiesiog neatsispiriu užburiančioms anotacijoms! Another winner in the entertaining Myron Bolitar series! Filled with laughs, thrills, and suspense, everything you'd want from Mr. Coben!

It had been 6 years since legendary Sports Agent Myron Bolitar had played superhero, fired a gun, solved dark mysteries, or called his friend Win to get him out of trouble. But that's all about to change, when Myron befriends 2 High School Seniors about to graduate and move on to College, who encourages to not get into a vehicle with a stranger or a drunk drive

This book was a bit different from Coben's other Myron Bolitar books because Myron is the main suspect. The plot was intricate, witty and suspenseful which makes for a great mystery read. From the beginning, I was hooked and the twists and turns kept me guessing right up to the surprise ending. I would have to say that I think this is Coben's best Myron Bolitar book. I would highly recommend this book if you like laugh-out-loud suspense mysteries and I look forward to reading his next Bolitar bo ...more
Promise Me didn't live up to my expectations, but it wasn't a complete let down either. The plot was interesting enough to make me want to read more, but that's about it. It had far too many main characters (many of them very unlikable), too many suspects and too many conclusions. I really liked how it ended though- the ending definitely saved the whole book. Overall, I did like it, but it was very muddled and lacked structure. I'll be interested to read more from Coben, though.

I enjoyed other Coben books before, but always read them in their original English. This translation to Hebrew is the worst! Reminded me again why I hate translations and should always try to read the original (well, in English and Hebrew anyway, can't yet read any other languages). Even if I would have read it in English, the plot and story are just OK.

Grande twist aquele no final, completamente inesperado.

I'm a huge fan of Harlan Corben's work and over the past year or so I have devoured 16 of his books including this one. Until a friend mentioned his named I had never heard of him. She told me he was her absolute favourite author and I had to give his books a try. And now here I 'am. So to the book at hand. So this time Bolitar is trying to do a favour for the daughter of some friends. only to find it all blowing up in his face. How can one simple action spiral so far out of control.

Esta semana tenho andado numa onda de policiais. Antes de mais queria agradecer à Ângela Costa e Vera Brandão que me motivaram na aquisição de livros deste autor, para mim até à data totalmente desconhecido. Posto isto, aqui vai a minha modesta opinião.
Quem goste de policiais/thrillers e não conheça o autor, por favor, compre um livro, depois falamos.

This was my first real attempt at Harlan Coben (having previously started Tell No One but quitting after 15 or so pages due to the style of narration) and I was pleasantly surprised by the novel. The book was fast-paced, the story intriguing, and the characters were well-written and almost universally likeable. As this is the eight Myron Bolitar novel Coben appears to have written, the depth of the characters is no real surprise, but I was still grateful for characters you could truly invest in. ...more

Last night I finished Promise Me by Harlan Coben and I'm still basking in that just-finished-a-great-book afterglow.

My wife had to listen to me periodically make comments like, "This guy is a genius" and "Coben's writing is incredible." When I finished the book I just sat there shaking my head for a few seconds. Stunned silence, as they say.

If you enjoy a good thriller or suspense novel in a contemporary setting, it doesn't get any better than this book. Period. The plot is so tight it's abo

Poor Myron. He has started to go downhill for me. He and Win are an amazing duo and I love reading about them but there were some underlining themes to this book that I did not like.

Myron spent WAY too much of his time putting himself in situations that made him look like an old pervert, lamenting his single status, and moaning over his parents imminent deaths. These themes made Myron seem like less of a hero and took away some of his charm that he had in the other books. Honestly, these themes
I always listen to my Myron stories via audiobook. This time, Harlan Coben reads the book himself in this audio edition. This took me some time to get used to because 1-when you read a series and the reader is always the same...the voice represents the characters. This is how you create a pic in your mind of what these characters are like. Having a new reader, even Mr Coben himself, caught me off guard and threatened my previous view of Myron & friends. And 2-all I could think of while Mr Co ...more
