I fucking hated this book.
1. There are only two Black people in this book. Two. In Florida. Yeah. They're identical twins: Tamara and Keira. Guess who the crazy, psycho, sadistic, incestuous, damaged, murderous pair is in this book? Wild guess? Anyone?
2. The purple prose is off the charts. Lay off the thesaurus, the allegories, and overly ornate everything. Every sexual experience is a volcano, a tsunami, an earthquake, a sunset, an astronomical wonder. Stop. Goddamn.

“You’re mine, Mackenzie, and I don’t share you, not even with memories.”
Once upon a time, I asked a trusted fellow reviewer which BDSM book she would recommend if she had to pick only one from the countless ones she has read so far, and this was her choice. Now, that’s all the convincing I needed to start reading this book immediately, but I was also dying of curiosity to see for myself what made this story so unique that a seasoned reader of the genre would single it out so adamantl ...more

I'd put Natural Law off for several years in spite of all the glowing reviews, and it being that rare breed in BDSM fiction: a Fem-dom story (and I love those). Maybe it was curiosity or sheer boredom, but I finally gave in, and honestly wish I'd listened to my intuition. Natural Law wasn't epic fail as far as BDSM books go, but it was trying so hard to be so many things that it just didn't succeed at any of them.

I LOVE the joy of discovering a new fantastic author!

Ok, maybe not new to most, but definitely new to me.
My stumble onto this book and author was purely accidental. Saw it was a freebie a few months ago, checked Amazon and GR for reviews, saw it rated rather highly and added it to the TBR and growing list of books awaiting me on my Kindle.
I’d been in a bit of a book slump going into this book and REALLY needed something to shake me up, so I thought, why not try a book about an Alp ...more

Someone is luring and killing men in the safety of their homes, in the intimacy of their bedrooms. Someone is winning trust and then betraying it in the worst way possible and to Mac Nighthorse, that is obscene. He knows the lifestyle and understands the Total Power Exchange between Mistress and Slave and for someone to betray that beautiful and freely given gift while in his city drives him into action. Natural Law is the second installment of Nature of Desire series. This book takes this series to a whole new level. I loved the first one and if each book keeps going at this rate I am going to be madly in love with each one of them.

Natural Law, part of Joey Hill's Nature of Desire series, is probably one of the most realistic, well-written depictions of the more extreme side of BDSM that I have encountered. It's also the first "alpha male as sexual sub" or just "male-as-sub" erotic romance that I've read. I definitely prefer to read about males that stay alpha, in and out of the bedroom, but Joey Hill's writing captivated me anyway.

This book was a bit of an experiment for me. We've all read a ton of books about the male Dom and the female sub. Well, I was curious to see how I'd feel to read about a male sub and a female Domme. So, I went about trying to find such a book and noticed that Natural Law came highly recommended by a few people who's recommendations I'd trust. And I wasn't disappointed.

I really didn't know if I would like this book. I am not into female Doms. Plus, any BDSM books I read are not hardcore...I like them milder. I am not one to like to cringe when I read about hurtful foreplay between two (or more) characters, and I certainly don't like it when the sub is humiliated. That just doesn't do it for me.
Having said that, I really did like this book. It is a little strong in areas of their "play", but I thought the love story between the two characters were well thought ...more

I totally love when the Ladies show who is boss. :)
To put this in perspective re an Alpha male who is a sexual sub - I have actually seen this a lot in men with Alpha type personality traits who tend to be over-responsible caretakers with heavy duty job responsibilities like cops, air traffic controllers and first responders.
I think it is probably one way they can literally let go of the sense of responsibility they feel and let some one else make all the decisions. (I am not saying all Alpha g ...more

Quickshot Review (mostly because I realized I hadn't prepared a full review when I originally read this)
The writing is great, the sex is stellar, the plot is interesting and Mac likes being dominated, without losing his masculine edge and that's just fine by me. I would have liked to enjoy Violet more, as she had a bit of try hard to her, but overall, excellent read. If you're into BDSM reads, I'd recommend it. ...more

Thanks so much Cassandra for the recommendation!
Super interesting. An alpha male who is a submissive. Seems impossible no? And honestly in their first scene together I wasn’t buying it so thank god she wasn’t either and called him out on it.
She’s clever, making him strike her with the cat o nine was genius.
He’s less like a sub and more like a wild stallion. And damn if she isn’t doing a good job breaking him.

This was recommended to me a while back and I've finally got around to reading it. I always go into BDSM books a little worried because the lifestyle can require sharing and multiple partners.
This was not a big issue for me in this story. The situations with multiple participants were still very much focussed on the main couples relationship so did not set off my cheating alarm.
The story itself was billed as a bit of a thriller and about half way in I was wondering what happened because it was a ...more

This was a well written story that I enjoyed for the most part. I like a good thriller so the killer aspect was a bonus although not prominent part of the story. Even though this is tagged as femdom and there are some hot scenes. I found the D/s relationship side of the story confusing.
I don't believe a male has to be a weak character to be able to submit, and Mac was far from a weak character. However as much as he went to pains to say he wanted to submit to his Mistress I wasn't feeling it. T ...more

Well, I'll never look at a big, burly guy the same way again. That's for sure! :)
This is not my first foray into the world of BDSM, but this book clearly drew the line between the tamer depictions of the D/s lifestyle I've read in books and what I imagine the real thing to be. On occasion I do like to spice up my reading with material containing alternative sexual activities and boy did I get what I was looking for here! Now, I'm no fairy. Submissive Alpha Males. Mmmmm. I do love me some of that.
I was disappointed with Joey Hill’s vampire queen books. In those books, Jacob is an alpha male, but I never bought him as a submissive and the vampire queen annoyed me. But I decided to give a different series a try because I’ll go a long way (and pay a good chunk of money) for a good piece of femdom.

I read this book because it was recommended to me. Joey Hill is a very gifted writer. The story just flows and you can almost imagine being there. Even though I do not care to read x-treme BDSM books, this was also a love story and had quite a bit of suspense. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read about BDSM.

This is a comprehensive review of the series as a whole.
Every character is unique, each one bringing his/her own experiences to the BDSM scene. And every story is deeply buried under layers of hurt and distrust. But these characters are mighty, their love limitless. Lots of dungeon time, winding dark sensuality with anguish and courage, making these stories live on long after they’re devoured.

Being one of TPD’s premiere homicide detectives Mackenzie “Mac” Nighthorse never thought he would find himself embroiled in a case that would force him to confess his own sexual fetish to his boss. Well this was okay. I got bored half way through. I liked the idea that the dom was female and the Sub was male. I haven't read many like that so far. I was going to add Natural Law to my "guilty pleasure" shelf, but stopped just as I was about to click beside it.
See, because it'd be so easy to do that and simply underestimate the importance of this story, cataloging it along with well-written and sex-filled books that, although highly entertaining, didn't left anything behind them that isn't a dreamy smirk and a heartfelt nod of my head.
No, Natural Law goes directly into my "favorite" shelf, as well as in a bunch of other well-deserved sexy a ...more
