INTO THE LIGHT by Darcia Helle tackles some new ground. If you can believe it, there are ghosts in this one. Oooh. And a trip into a deep dark place called The Abyss. She doesn’t wander from her trademark of believable characters doing things you and I would do in the same circumstances. But the otherworldliness is a welcome tilt on the murder, mayhem and intrigue you’ve come to expect.

I don’t offer plot recaps in my reviews because I despise ruining even one small bit of a story for any reader

This is a wonderful story on so many levels. It contains humour, romance, and an element of mystery. It's a supernatural tale about a ghost, Max, who refuses to go `into the light' until his killer can be brought to justice.
Max, in life, was a very ordinary man, in fact he died feeling like a failure and as if his life had been in vain.
What Helle's book teaches us is that there are many things we do on a daily basis that have an effect on other people's lives, for good or bad. Max is forced to c

Before starting “Into the Light,” I read a comment by author Darcia Helle stating that the novel was very different from her usual style. I’m a creature of habit. I know what I enjoy, and if you throw a new secret ingredient into the mix I’m probably not going to like it. I’m an adult version of Mikey from the old Life cereal commercial.

As a fan of Ms. Helle’s writing, I truly wanted another Michael Sykora series thriller. I would have gladly accepted another exceptional stand-alone like “The

Into the Light is a book that surprised me. I couldn't give it a category in the books I have read. It's mystery, yes... Who killed Max and why? It's a ghost story ... Max refuses to go into the light until he finds out who killed him and why and PI is the only one who can hear ghosts guess who is the one communicating with the ghost. It is a story about the hereafter ... what lies beyond? Do we get a chance go into the light? What's it like out there? It's a story about truth ... Initiall ...more

Into The Light captured my interst right from the first sentence. It is a very enlightening read. Max Paddington refuses to go into the light until his killer is brought to justice. He had a troubled marraige and was very heart broken about it.Joe Cavelli is a p.i he also leads an ordinary life. Until like it or not he connects with Max, He can hear Max and he is ...more

A tearjerker but hilarious as well!
This paranormal story by Darcia Helle was an utter treat and not at all what you would expect. A man is murdered by an unknown person and refuses to go into the light as he's hellbent to find his killer. In the process, he haunts a stranger, the only person who can hear him, but the stranger's not exactly happy about it. This is a tantalizing premise as it is and you would expect all the funny episodes and suspense that would logically go with it. Yet, this sto

Funny. Touching. Thoughtful.
This story brings many things to mind:

- How do our lives touch others?
- What effect, if any, do we have on others as we stumble through life?
- How do our actions affect others?
- What do we leave behind?

Darcia Helle tells a warm story of acceptance, love, friendship, forgiveness and lasting influences.
I found this story interestingly told and very amusing and touching to read. Max’s path to understanding and acceptance is a fun story to read.

Wow. Talk about a genre range! In the first book of hers that I read, Darcia Helle pulled me through the ringer in Miami Snow with that high tension relationship. But with 'Into The Light' she TOTALLY switched gears, and pulled it off beautifully. This is a humorous and sad chronicle of a character (Max) who thinks so little of himself, but who actually has had more of an impact on people's lives than he thought. Just because he's now dead doesn't mean that it's going to stop. In order to find p ...more

Darcie Helle has written a touching goodread about a self centered ghost not being able to pass ‘Into the Light’. I found her writing imaginative with under lying meanings for the ghost, Max, and Joe, that kept me reading each time Max could not follow into the light. This story could give readers insight into their own lives to make changes for better living before it’s too late.

Take one nerdy guy who thinks he never did anything right, then is murdered, and add a detective who is grieving about breaking up with the love of his life and can hear ghosts. Plus a mystery about why the first guy was murdered and you have a funny, sweet story that wouldn't offend your grandmother (no overt sex - take that back, no sex at all but some girl trouble) and you have a book that will make you feel good. Very limited violence, after all, he is murdered.

Into the Light by Darcia Helle is such a good book. It's a ghost story, it's a mystery, it's a story about love and friendship, it's humorous, it's touching. That's a lot for a book to be, but Into The Light is all that and more.

Max Paddington is having a bad day, a bad life and a bad afterlife. On the day his wife asks him for a divorce, he's shot and killed, much to his surprise. Even more surprising, he's become a ghost and can't move Into The Light until he finds out why he was killed and wh

All I want to know is why this author in not yet on the “bestseller” list. This is the second book I have read by Darcia Helle, and all I can say is that I was once again delighted that her story was a real page-turner. “Into the Light” is a paranormal mystery/thriller that will keep the reader wondering what is going to happen next.

In my opinion, the character development is exceptional, and we get to piece together the personality and little quirks of each character bit by bit, while the story

Into the Light by Darcia Helle is a story that will keep you reading while tugging on your heart-strings. Max Paddington starts out his day just like any other, that is until his wife hands him divorce papers. Without understanding the reasoning behind her decision he goes through his day in a bad mood which he takes out on anyone within close vicinity. To make matters worse, Max finds himself floating above his body after being murdered.

Poor Max Paddington's day doesn't start well. His wife serves him a demand for a divorce over his breakfast. He has a bad day at work. And then to top it off someone goes and shoots him. In a parking lot! The first thing Max discovers about being dead is getting around is kind of difficult when you don't have a physical body. Just when he thinks he's stuck in the parking lot for eternity, Max encounters someone who can hear him. After first convincing Joe Cavelli that no, he wasn't losing his mi ...more

This is the 3rd book in 3 days that I have read that has been unbelievably great. Only this one is different. Totally different type of story from anything I've ever read before.

How do you review a book that is so good that you simply don't have words for it?

Max is murdered the day his wife tells him she wants a divorce. Max is in "limbo" (so to speak) and he can see what is going on on earth but no one can hear him. Until he finds Joe, a private detective, who CAN hear him. What follows is Joe

Maxwell Paddington is having a really bad day! First off his wife asks for a divorce; then after a bad day at work he is gunned down in a parking lot. Yes he is murdered but this is where the fun starts. Max manages to attach himself to a private investigator on the scene who can actually hear him. Being as he cannot shake the spirit, Joe Cavelli agrees to help Max solve his murder so he can cross over. He and Max discover a lot about themselves during the investiga

Since I'm a fan of the TV show Ghost Whisperer and a longtime reader of mystery and suspense novels, this book was a delight to discover. Max is stunned to find himself a murder victim, floating somewhere between earth and the hereafter. The only one who can hear him is an investigator he convinces to look into the case. When he's not helping with the investigation, Max is facing his own ghosts from his past as he adjusts to life in spirit limbo. In death, he learns a great deal about his own li ...more

I can hear them: Into The Light by Darcia Helle
I really enjoyed this story! We have humor, romance and ghosts. The mystery is a murder, Max Paddington's murder. Max was killed outside of Chili's on the same day his wife Rachel asks for a divorce, coincidence? Max doesn't think so. He hovers over his body and realizes no one can see him, he's screaming to ask his wife about the murder. He feels a sizzle up his spine and sees his grandfather with his hand held out asking him to go into the light,

Recommends it for: Everyone with a wish for 'other'
Into The Light brings to us a mixture of humour and mystery, as it deals with what could happen after we are dead. It shows how we don't always appreciate the 'imprint' we leave while we're are alive, and that maybe we were more than we thought.

It is a book that deals with the human condition, with such themes as love, sorrow, regret, grief, jealousy and of course, death, yet, attempts to answer the many questions and thoughts we might have about 'the mysterious journey' beyond our comprehensio

I liked the premise of this story ... Sort of like "Ghost" without the romance factor ( at least not to the same degree). There were a few redundancies (the golf club thing became a bit much at times), the main character, Max, was a bit pathetic. I also felt like some of the people were a little easy to convince making it seem unrealistic when they believed Joe that Max was a ghost--that said, It did have some humorous moments and I liked the connection between some of the characters.

I'm not sure what I was expecting with this book.... but it wasn't what I got! There were some points where I was bored out of my mind & almost put it down... and then it would drag me right back in. In the end - I was forced to finish - only b/c I read most of the book before I realized that it was just "eehhhh??"

Darcia Helle had me crying and laughing in all the right places with her tale of unfinished business, regrets, and the power of love. I really enjoyed her curly-haired hunky PI and related to his plight/fears over potentially parenting a special needs child, as I have a son on the Autism Spectrum, who also has ADHD. I look forward to reading more from Darcia!

This was a fun book to read. Light and a little repetitious at times but made you think about what was important in life. I would recommend this to friends.
