Rate this book
Despite the progress of Western Civilization in economic, scientific, and other areas, a lack of corresponding progress with respect to spiritual life has left much of society feeling disoriented and unbalanced. Medina's insight sheds light on ways to address this imbalance. The ultimate goal of this examination is to present a path toward a prosperous global civilization that fulfills humanity's physical, psychological, and spiritual needs.

In this book, the author gives us a detailed critique of the western mindset currently dominant in the world. He does so by comparing it with the three perspectives he most resonates with: that of the Holistic movement, the Baha'i Faith, and his American Indian heritage. While I believe he may be laying too much fault at modern western thought for the ills of the world, I do agree with much of what he says. I appreciate the fact that he is willing to address both the positive and negative aspects of the holistic perspective as many of its practitioners currently express it. The author seems quite smitten with the work of Abraham Maslow, almost to the point of adoration, but given his views, this is not surprising. The author is at his most passionate when he speaks about deplorable state of the education system in the United States and ways to rectify it. In summary, this book is full of thought-provoking insights for those who wish to explore how and why the western world has gone so awry and see how the growing communities of the holistic movement and Baha'i Faith offer compelling and complimentary counterpoints worthy of further examination.
