Bite

Anton is a sexy alpha werewolf. Greg is the newly hired live-in chef. One glance at his baby blues, tattoo and goatee was enough to bring out Anton's "uncivilized" nature.
The first half of the book is a lot of repetitive sex scenes complete with biting, growling and rough play that lack excitement and tenderness, and very little plot.
The use of one-word sentences is too frequent and gets annoying after a while.
"Glowing. Eyes didn't. Oh. "There"".
There's a bit of humor, though. Anton's dominant nature and Greg's cockiness and independent streak often clash, ending up with Greg being the one who gives in. The story starts in the second half, when Greg's room is vandalized by a mysterious intruder.
More sex scenes follow. Too bad.
Greg is a very talented chef and I would have liked to see more examples of his culinary expertise.
The story races along to a pulse-pounding ending that is so obviously a setup for a future sequel.

Well I was told that I would either love this book or hate this book, nothing in between...I loved it.

3.5 stars subject to change......
If I wasn't a vegetarian already, I would be after reading Bite! What I really liked was the banter between Logan and Greg the teasing and fun they have together great interaction its a shame there wasn't more of this throughout the book. A few less sex scenes, more background on the MC's and less biting and this would have been right up my alley. I know, I know this is a "Wolfy" we are talking about they're supposed to bite but lesser would have been better for me. It's good but don't expect a lot of plot this is pure erotica so enjoy and let it take you along for the ride.

Anton Lupi is a man with a secret. He lives in a beautiful high-rise apartment, throws lavish parties and mingles with 'the beautiful people' all the while hiding his werewolf nature. It's a part of him that he's not comfortable with and while he is the Alpha he keeps his distance from the pack. When he meets his new chef he'll discover that there are times when his wolf won't be kept down.
Greg Henderson is nothing like what Anton was expecting in a chef. The sexy blue-eyed man with a tattoo and pierced ear immediately captures his attention. The attraction is definitely mutual and soon Anton and Greg are having trouble keeping their hands off each other. Anton realizes that he has found his mate and that he must find a way to share his true nature with Greg.
As Greg and Anton's feelings deepen their happiness will be tested as danger comes to Anton's home. It seems that someone is out to hurt Greg and as the danger escalates Anton will find that he can no longer be just a lone wolf. He will need to depend on his pack for help if he's to save his mate and himself from whoever is out to get them.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It was fast-paced and full of action with a plot that flowed really well and a great ending which leads straight into book two, Bitten. Anton and Greg are well developed characters, both are strong sexy men and they are incredibly hot together. I liked seeing Anton letting his wolf out and how he deals with the aftermath of Greg's capture and release. The resulting change in their life is going to require a lot of adjustment on Greg's part but with Anton there for him there's no doubt everything will work out for them.

Uninhibited and non-angsty fun where the storyline occasionally gets in the way of the smexing. Seriously, it's hot, but repetitive--except for the spankings which were hot. Otherwise it's: growl, fuck, bite, "Mine", repeat.

April 10, 2009I think I could recognize a Sean Michael's book even without the front cover. It's the particular style, the writing is a flash of image and situation, a never ending flow, with a lot of dialogue and bit here and there of setting to complete the picture.
In Bite, Anton is a very rich and handsome werewolf who discovers a powerful attraction for his in-house cook, Greg. Greg is an easy-to-go man, who likes the simple things of life, like cooking and making sex, and who has not many demands if not a man to love him back and possible in a strongly manner. And Anton his a very alpha male and also a strong one, who happens to be also very possessive and from the first time he decides that Greg has to be him like mate. No matter if Greg is willing or not. Luckily Gregg is very willing. But someone else is not so happy they have found something good together.
Anton is like Sean Michael's writing, an overwhelming flooding that can be stopped. He is all you have in mind for a classical alpha male: strong, action no words type of man. Instead Greg is not the classical cute omega bottom. He is open and friendly but he is also independent and clever. He "decides" to be overwhelmed by Anton; I think that, if he would want, he could overpowers Anton in cleverness. And I imagine him like a gypsy, who chooses where to stay and when to go.
Overall Bite is a pretty long book which you read in few time, cause it goes down smoothly and easy.

I got through the first four chapters and decided to quit. The two main characters, Anton and Greg, are pretty much lifeless. I didn't really cared what they were doing and how they felt about each other. The writing was very hard to get through with many one or two word sentences. Fun With Dick and Jane had about the same writing style as this book did.

The lack of lube made me cringe but I guess it’s “that” kind of story.
It’s certainly funny to read something older again. And even funnier that 2007 could be considered old.
I wonder if this is one of the granddaddies of gay werewolf erotic romance. We definitely have all the “mine” and “mate” and abbreviated speech patterns here, the mindless-with-lust bits, crazily possessive and growly and somewhat violent.
Although these days protagonists have mostly turned into supposedly badass bikers and mercenaries. Go figure. (I still want to know where Anton’s money comes from. He does not seem to be working, merely maintaining his fortune. Hm.)
Also, this here is the uncivilised version. I actually approve of that. If you go animal like that, go all the way.
The sex is way too much (as befits the time of publication) and extreme and so forth – but again, this is that kind of story. That excuse does not fly for me in newer paranormal books, simply because they do not have that primal feel. Also, despite all the sex here, it’s still saturated with romance somehow.
Words to freaking live by. I wish more romances would follow that rule or have characters smart enough to know the difference.
I also like that despite having one clearly dominant top and a smaller sized bottom, the power feels evenly distributed between them and the bottom in no way seems childlike.
Even when Anton carries Greg around, Greg still appears like a grown man to me in his responses and his reasoning. And not much is ever made of their size difference.
I can’t say how wonderful that feels after a slew of paranormal romances with tiny, childlike and helpless bottoms and their big, buff tops who treat them like kids.
In this, if anything, Anton seems more of a child due to his primal responses.
What a beautiful sentence. I don’t know why but it somehow makes the sound into something tangible and that really works for me.
Evil, evil to end this on a huge cliffhanger. If I’d read this back then and had been forced to wait for the second book I’d have been furious.
Because if you go for this author's intense stream-of-consciousness-like writing style, this one really hits the mark.

I am a huge fan of shifter stories, so I was really excited to try this one. It could have been so much better than it was. The shifter aspect, other than Anton requiring RED MEAT at every instance and feeling itchy with the moon, was very much downplayed. The attack on Greg, while mentioned a few times, also was a very background issue. What was at the forefront, was continual, repetitive sex and biting. Anton's possessiveness was a hallmark of the shifter, so I was okay with that. But the scene after scene, without any plot in between, grew tiresome. I read another review that mentioned the incomplete and one word sentences. I didn't think this would be an issue, but it was so frequent, that I agree with that review - it took away from the book. "There. Eyes. Can't". The ending is a clear gateway to a sequel, and while I am slightly curious to see what happens, it's not enough to get me through another book like this one.

Greg thought he was just signing on to be a live-in chef for Anton, which makes him both reluctant and surprised when he realizes the animal-like attraction that springs up immediately between them. But he quickly learns there is much more to Anton than he could have imagined--and he's almost not even able to believe it himself. And Anton has enemies who appear to have no problem hurting Greg to get to Anton, leaving them both needing to fight back and fight for what they mean to each other.
Nope. This was just... Anton's possessiveness was an immediate turn-off for me, it came out of nowhere, and it was straight up unhealthy. Greg should have been running for the hills screaming right away. And the whole supernatural being becoming possessive over a "normie" being cast as "loving" and "protective" trope has never sat well with me. Because it is neither of those things.

This is erotica, not emotional romance
Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.
Rating: 7/10
PROS:
- The sex is hot. Graphic, rough (but not overly so), intense. Pervasive. (see cons below also)
- I liked the characters. However, I’ve read the book twice now; I first read it about 6 months ago and decided to read it again before writing a review, and I don’t remember liking the characters as much the first time I read it as I do now, after the second. (I’m also about halfway through the sequel, Bitten, which is contributing to my affection for the characters as well, I’m sure.)
- Gradual progression of the main characters’ relationship. There’s no “love at first sight” stuff here; they’re attracted to each other physically, then they spend a while honing the ability to push each other’s sexual buttons, and eventually the sexual possessiveness turns into emotional possessiveness, which then turns into love.
- Good description of wolves’ thoughts and instincts. Each author tends to treat his/her characters’ thoughts differently when the characters are in wolf form. J.L. Langley’s Without Reservations shows one character whose thoughts are no different when he’s in wolf form than when he’s in human form, whereas Rowan McBride’s Lone depicts a man whose wolf form’s thoughts are single-minded and simplistic. The wolf thoughts in Bite are somewhere between those two extremes.
CONS:
- So much sex that there’s very little plot. VERY little. The first really suspenseful, intriguing moment of the book occurs on page 100 (up to then, it’s 80% sex and 20% cooking and talking), and then the next mention of the conflict doesn’t occur until page 170. What little plot the book has is described so sparsely that the story’s potentially suspenseful moments are over so quickly I couldn’t get wound up about them at all.
- The sex gets monotonous. I can hardly blame Michael for this, though, because there is, quite literally, a sex scene (or two, or three) in every chapter save maybe two. This is THE most sex-filled erotic romance I’ve read. And on top of the sheer pervasiveness of sex, the characters use the same position and the same dialog over and over again.
- The possessiveness of the characters got old. I’ve come to accept the use of the word “mine” at some point in most m/m romances, though I’ve never felt the urge to say that to anyone myself. But it must occur 50 times in this book. And that’s probably a conservative estimate.
Overall comments: If you’re looking for graphic erotica, this is a good choice. If you want a plot (at all) and/or deep, wrenching emotional connection between the two main characters, you should look elsewhere.

‘Bite’ is the perfect title for this first of two closely linked books – ‘Bite’ and ‘Bitten’ - about werewolf Anton and his personal chef, Greg. There is a lot of biting, growling, and eating of steaks – pretty much what I expect from a book about werewolves who are a little less civilized and closer to their inner animals than in many other shifter tales. And yet the story is also amusing more often than not. Just the idea of a werewolf alpha who has a butler, a personal assistant, and a personal chef is slightly off the beaten path. There is a pack somewhere as well, but it doesn’t actually affect the events in book one. As a result, this first volume is all about getting to know Anton, Greg, their love affair, and some of the initial obstacles they have to overcome on their way to being mates.
Anton is a werewolf, was born with a “curse”, but he tries to be very civilized about it. He clearly isn’t hurting for money and likes to surround himself with the finer things life has to offer. He lives in a penthouse, employs Jackson the butler, Jason the personal assistant who “deals with all that computer stuff”, and a personal chef. Anton does his best to control the beast, but once a month he has to shift with the full moon. He makes Jackson lock him in his room because the wolf is a beast and Anton has no control then.
Greg is a chef, and he can’t believe a gorgeous, rich man has just hired him. Greg loves cooking, and even though his boss usually wants steak, Greg enjoys experimenting and makes Anton eat all kinds of different foods. The only problem, as far as Greg is concerned, is the attraction that sizzles between him and Anton from day one. Greg does his best to remain professional, but once Anton sets his mind to achieving something, there is no stopping him.
What follows is a lot of hot and hotter loving, a gradual reveal of who and what Anton really is, and some nasty interference from an unknown party. Anton hates the fact that a stranger has entered his territory with obvious designs on Greg, Greg is scared half to death by the stranger’s attacks, and it all ends in a monumental cliff-hanger that made me glad I’d already bought book two so I could jump right in.
If you like werewolf stories with a growling, steak-eating main character, if you want to find out more about what a “civilized” werewolf and his new personal chef get up to in the kitchen, and if you’re looking for a read that is as funny as it is scorching, then you will probably like this novel. Just don’t read it without having book two on hand…

Sometimes Sean Michael's write a book that is in between his usual porn or feel good books. This is one. I loved how there was a storyline, mystery and plenty of good old-fashioned sex and some not so old-fashioned. I don't know how I missed this book.

I really wanted to give this book 4 stars but only went with 3. I really loved the two main characters but they were the only ones you really saw in the book. Jackson seems to be a really close friend but you only hear from him a couple of times. I really loved Greg and how sweet and sarcastic and funny he was. Anton was all alpha and he was so sweet. He was cocky and funny and I just loved him. The main characters did have there flaws but I loved them anyways thats why its so hard to give this book only 3 stars. The reason why is that most of the book is the two of them having sex or Anton eating. The end of the book was better but it was really rushed and even then there was still another sex scene. I liked the sex scenes there was just way too many of them and I would have like to spend the time getting better aquainted with the characters then reading the sex scenes. All you really find out about there pasts is that Antons parents are dead and so are Gregs and Greg has a sister and a brother that live in different states. I would have also liked to hear more about Jackson and had more scenes with him in it. The last thing I wil say is that there weren't many characters really. There was Rosa, Jackson, Jason, Dorso, Andrea, Greg and Anton. Those are the only characters really mentioned. I mean maids and waitress and guests were mentioned and stuff but that was it. And like I said even they weren't mentioned much only Greg and Anton really. Well I am going to read the second book and see if it's any better but I will probably finish it even if it isn't just 'cause I like Greg and Anton and the little bit I saw of Jackson :)

Alpha warewolf Anton meets his new live-in chef Greg, and sparks fly immediately – of course! – because this is very much a typical “Alpha wolf finds his mate and falls in insta-lust/insta-love, but not the whole pack is thrilled by it”-book, type 1A. It’s also, as I understand it, a very typical Sean Michael-book.
So, this is essentially PWP, the plot is kind of in the background, what little there is of it at all. Since this is a 257 page book and about 200 of those pages (or more) involve sex, it became very repetitive. Very repetitive. Even the kinks became same all, same all very quickly. I didn’t find the BDSM-elements of this book disturbing, as I do with many other BDSM-themed books, the only things that disturbed me were that the sex scenes were so long, boring and snooze inducing.
But if you like Sean Michael and/or feel like reading a typical Alpha warewolf plot and/or some PWP, this book might very well be for you!

As with nearly all of Sean Michael's novels, there is little more to "Bite" than a spattering of plot around many, many schmex scenes. I've read this one three times now, but only when I'm in the mood for hot schmex and little to no drama [between the main charas, that is:].
Anton and Greg have none of that hang-up some other novels have - there's no 'is he gay' or 'is he serious' or 'oh, my, god, I can't possibly love him already - I'm so ashamed' or any other BS like that. It's just straight attraction and reaction, getting down and dirty and then realizing only later, after a sort of extended time together, that hey, he's the one I truly want to be with forever, I really kind of love him.
No hang-ups. No angsting. Just straight forward relations and sex. Sometimes that's all you need, when too much of the other is bombarded on you from too many other novels. -_-;;

Won from SM, Oct giveaway month.
I hadn't read any of SM's published novels but have been reading the online serial Club Fantasy, so was prepared somewhat for the writing style. The book is a werewolf shifter book, though it is not a big part. I'm not a huge paranormal fan so it was fine for me.
Greg comes to work for Anton as a chef and sparks fly from the start - as does the sex! I think if this had been a book portraying real life, then it would not be believable but as a paranormal book it is more believeable - and its hot!
Anton's actions are explained by his being a werewolf and its not until the end of the book that more of the pack issues and other alpha's trying to take over come into play, all leading to a gripping finish and cliffhangar.
Bitten is the sequel, which I'm going to read shortly!

There are several flaws in this book but one of the biggest is the lifeless and one dimensional characters. All Anton ever seems to think or say is "Mine, mine, mine, mine!" It's exhausting to read "mine" for 219 pages. Greg's character is no better with his stunted speech. With him constantly saying the word "Dude" I became bored very easily.
Another flaw is that the book reads as one continuous sex scene. Granted this is an erotic romance, however, around the 8th scene I found myself rolling my eyes at the ridiculousness of each lack luster sex scene. Every sex scene is the same. One of the main characters is a chef, you would at least think this would give the author a chance to be a little more creative...

Well, it started off promising then.... became a little ridiculous. The characters, Greg in particular, was well developed and even Anton seemed to come across quite nicely at first glance.
What can I say about this really. Every other word was 'mate' or 'mine' and the characters did nothing but seduce each other with words. There didn't seem to be much depth to the story aside from one wolf marking another's territory. The whole book seemed like an excuse to write porn really, and not much thought went into the background. There isn't a lot of interaction with other characters aside from the two getting it on.
If you're into reading two guys going for it hot and steamy, have a read. But don't expect much if you're looking for story and character.

I wanted Marcus to bottom. Like, all the time. I got tired of him being the seme. Like, actually a seme. Lucky for me I skipped all the sex scenes. Of course, this means I didn't get to read much of it, but there was actually a weird-possibly-interesting web of intrigue in the kind-of-background.
No, I'm not going to read book 2. Fuck you and your "You wanna find out what happens next? Well, you'll just have to read the next book." Yes, perhaps the first was at an appropriate length for you to stop, but you basically just stopped and stuck in an advert for book 2. Aka, spend more money. Thanks, but no thanks. I'm going to go back to my beautiful, beautiful #NBCHannibal (which I still inadvertently read as NB Channibal).

I liked this book as well as Bitten. Now don't get me wrong, I like Sean Michael but he always jumps right ino a sex scene before really introducing the characters and honestly before the characters get to know eachother. He did the same with Jarheads and some of his other books. And honestly you can pick one of his books out a mile away with all the single word sentences that makes up his sex dialogue. All the single word repetative grunting gets old fast and is more that a little cavemanish and cheesy.

I technically didn't read this story, at least not past the first 3 chapters. Too much alpha male, sex (I can't believe I said that), and 1 word sentences. If I was invested in the characters I might have made it through all the sex, but I got to the point of skimming sex scenes until something different came along.
While this story didn't work for me, I just read Mannies Inc. (yes, a wildly different genre from Bite) and really enjoyed it. I have other Sean Michael books on my TBR that I will be giving a shot.

I honestly don’t know what it is about this book that makes me love it so much. It has Sean Michael’s usual flaws, mainly too much sex, but it manages to suck me right in every time. Maybe it’s how growly Anton is or how infatuated he is with Greg. Or maybe it’s how Greg always pushes him and how his cooking always makes me hungry. But every once in a while I find myself gravitating back to it and rereading it and it’s always as good as the previous time.

This is also an old favorite. I'm usually not into shifters and paranormal but this one doesn't bother me too much. Looking back I can't identify why I like it that much. I like the characters but it's not really realistic (see Greg's reaction to learning the truth about Anton - Who can accept such a thing so quickly?) I don't care much about the larger story (Anton's enemy), I still don't know why I like it but my favorite Sean Michael book.

It's basically lots of sex with a few other scenes. It's just too much. Not just for a book, but for people to have so much sex is like a little over the top.
Anton is an interesting werewolf, so civilized but at the same time the most wolfy character I have read about. It got a little annoying with the stake thing. Why does he need a chef if he eats one thing?

Okay, I'm a Sean Michael's fan.
This didn't work for me. It was weak and screamed, This is an early work! I can't rave and it was a little silly. It could have rocked if there was more background and depth to the characters.

Paperback.
Wow. So that was bad. So corny and it had no character depth. Greg the human and Anton the werewolf. Most of this book it sexy smut seems with a paragraph of story line. The first three chapters of this was fine( and hot) but then It just got boring. Would not read again.
