I gave this book five stars because it kept me drawn in. The passion was intense and well-written. Two characters who didn't want to fall in love but did anyway. I loved how Ms. Harris takes them to glitzy, high class locales and describes them so well, but the story always stays grounded with authentic characters. The characters had depth and a realness that transcended the fact that their worlds are not familiar to me. Their realness formed that bond between me as the reader and them as the characters that kept me reading.

I really appreciate this series, how each Wolfe has manifested the scars of their flawed family in different ways. How they are moving forward in the present to face that past and their brothers and sister to repair those broken bonds.

Jake wasn't just a high class, monied wheeler dealer with a taste for the ladies. He was a hurting man who was running from his past, from the anger, disappointment and guilt he felt for the tumultuous family dynamics he had lived through as a youngster but never fully healed from. To him, protection was not allowing himself to feel deeply for anyone and using money to accomplish what he wanted in his life. Power to substitute for a childhood where he had very little power. At the end of this book, he showed true bravery and that he was ready to break free from the cycle of emotional cowardice spurred on by his past. He struck me as very sensual, masculine, and distinctly British (which is the icing on the cake for this Anglophile). He might have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he knew how to handle himself in every situation. Just a well-crafted character all around.

Cara was down-to-earth, authentic, and deeply principled. She was woman of courage and integrity. She was unafraid to expect the most from a man, to meet her as an equal in a loving relationship. I admired and liked her. Even though she was afraid and out of her league at points in this book, she still carried herself well. I rooted for her happy ending, and I loved how she inspired Jack in his own way to face his troubled past and confront his anger at his brother Jacob.

Jake's book turned out to be my second favorite in this book after Nathaniel's. I am reenergized to continue this series and to explore more of the Wolfe family, whom I am completely emotionally attached to now.

This is the story of Jack Wolfe, after his elder brothers Jacob and Lucas abandoned their responsibilities it was left upto him to raise his siblings. Jack always had the ability to read people which helped save him from his father's temper, in cards and later in stocks. He's successful but aloof and one day he runs into a casino into our heroine Cara, a card-dealer from New Orleans. Cara's family lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. Jack saves Cara from a precarious situation and then hires her to accompany him to his brother's wedding. She stays with him for a week more weeks and they start an affair and then someone calls her his mistress she gets all offended and to distract her Jack does something terrible and she leaves him. Honestly, I didn't like the story. They tried to show that Cara wanted better things in life, but what better things?I need to like the heroine and I didn't care for the characters much at all.

The heroine Cara is working as a croupier in a casino in the south of France, one night she is asked by her creepy boss to throw a high stakes poker game and in return she will get a significant bonus. Cara reluctantly agrees as she desperately needs the money to help her family, who are still struggling after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, at the last minute she can't go through with it and the winning hand goes to Jack, the hero. Jack realises what's going on when Cara is taken off the table and into a back room, he steps into help and ends up being beaten. Cara gets him out but she is angry for his actions, which have cost her her job. Jack offers to pay her to attend his brothers upcoming wedding with him, something he is not looking forward to , especially seeing Jacob again whom Jack is still angry with for running out on the family causing Jack to have to step in. They soon begin an affair, which they both know is only a short term thing, only when both of their feelings begin to grow Jack pulls further away.

Lynn Raye Harris is one of those authors with the ability to hook you in right from the very first sentence and this is exactly what she does in this book. I loved the whole opening scene with the high stakes poker game, it was jam packed with tension, enhanced by the regular change of character point of view that made it interesting and exciting. I almost choked on my drink with the amount of money being gambled, do people really gamble that much?!
I adored Jack's character, he was written with a very cool, almost bored attitude that really worked and his issues regarding his family and especially Jacob were believable. Cara was also a great character, she had integrity and was honest, especially in her dedication to helping her family but also being honest enough to admit she needed to get away and live her own life, I think this is very true to life and made her character very relatable.
The chemistry between the characters is nothing short of intense, the strip poker scene was so hot that if I wore glasses they would have steamed up!

The plot was fantastic and fast paced, with realistic characters, this is a great book on its own and a brilliant part of this series.

Another Cinderella Complex Syndrome story!!!

Bhw Cara tinggal bersama Jack krn uang (pdhl memang iya) tetapi Cara tersinggung berat krn seolah-olah dia melakukan sex utk dibayar. Saya bingung tapi sebenarnya paham kekesalan Cara.

This tale was a lot of fun because it tells of another Wolfe brother who finds his happily ever after and in the most unusual of places! I enjoyed the novelty of it and the fact that another tragic soul gets redeemed in a manner so subtle, he falls without realizing it.

Jack is bored. See Jack perk up. Watch Jack think he’s getting his cake and eating it too. Enjoy the cake, in this case, Cara, the heroine, as it bites back. Marvel at how much Jack is clueless as to what it means to dream about a person when they aren’t with him. Poor Jack. He’s about to get a reality check and a mirror thrust into his face – and he doesn’t like what he sees. But what to do?

I enjoyed how the author set things up for the hero. I clearly understood that he’s burnt out emotionally, and that Jack, although successful in material things, was numb. What I didn’t realize until mid way through the story was that Jack was in hiding. He had such deep pain that he’s avoided anything and anyone that might prod the wound. Unfortunately, he was doing well in that regard. That is until he walked in and saw Cara and his inherent white knight syndrome rushed to the fore. The action and character byplay picked up from there and never stopped and certainly kept me on the edge not knowing how it was going to play out.

Cara, is a croupier. I had no idea what that was but the author filled me in as she told the tale. I didn’t stay perplexed for long, for which I was grateful and I liked the natural way the fine points of her job were revealed. I also thought the whole set up was cool. I’ve only watched things like that on television when they have poker playoffs. I was fascinated to see it used as a backdrop for the start of a romance.

The heroine is one classy lady, despite what those snobs said. She’s industrious, hard working and loyal to a fault. Plus she has heart full of love to give and the person who needs it the most won’t take it. My heart ached for Cara because she’s struggled so much and tried so hard and one oil-skinned boss took it away because he forced her into a situation that had her making a life altering choice – money or family honor? I appreciated that the heroine recognized the slippery slope she was on and her decision is one I could respect. It was really exciting there for a bit – very dramatic and heart pumping.

The rest of the book was heart thumping in a different way -- when Cara and Jack realized how physically compatible they were. I was treated to some very well written and passionate encounters that ramped up the romance to a tender yet hot level.

There weren’t too many secondary characters and only a passing nod to the rest of the Wolfe family. The book is without a doubt a sturdy standalone story. The facts of Jack’s history, the painful reunion of sorts and his finally getting the chutzpah to face his worst fears made him a hero in my estimation. I enjoyed how he acted so loving and wished I could be the recipient of one so generous. But he’s also high maintenance so it’s a good thing Cara was up to the task of redeeming him.

The Man With the Money is easy reading with a heartwarming story and delightful characters that reach the romantic inside. The book left me feeling very happy and satisfied and I giggled at Jack’s last line in the book. In fact, the courtship is sexy, sensual and at times remarkably sweet. And other times, wickedly naughty. It’s a well told tale with perfect editing with characters I really enjoyed getting to know. Pick up your own copy and have some fun.

HEARTLESS REBEL is from Mills & Boon Modern, new series BAD BLOOD. There are altogether eight volumes in this series which track the lives of a powerful dynasty, where secrets and scandal never sleep, The Notorious Wolfes.

HEARTLESS REBEL is one brother’s story by the fabulous author Lynn Raye Harris.

International jet-setter Jack Wolfe comes across Cara Taylor while she is dealing cards in a French casino. Unaware that he is being set up at the game where the stake runs in millions, he let his attention draw toward Cara, as he finds her alluring.

Though in need of the bonus promised her, Cara, when it came to the crunch, couldn’t compromise her integrity. And faces the brunt of her boss’s anger. Jack comes in to save her and for his troubles get a black eye and broken ribs.

Now unable to leave him, Cara takes him away from the clutches of her boss and his thugs. She is surprised when the card sharp Jack asks her to his brother’s wedding. He promises to pay her to go as his date. After the high emotions of facing his family members, Cara challenges Jack to a game of cards to get him out of brooding.

And the stake? Clothes, of course! So they start the game of strip poker, they know the outcome and we the readers know the outcome yet the sexual tension crackles through the pages! The author did full justice to this scene.

The sensuality in the love-making is breathtaking. Jack decides to keep Cara close to him but not close to his heart as Cara yearns to be. He had powerful secrets he could not share with her yet.
Can Jack forget his tumultuous childhood and let Cara in his heart?
And letting passionate Cara close to him would ignite the spark which could melt his ruthless heart. Can he do that?

The author has delivered a tortured hero, who doesn’t believe in love, a strong feisty heroine, who wouldn’t settle for less, a very believable plot and romance that would enthrall readers and woven a tale that would captivate and mesmerize.

I would definitely like to read the other stories in this series as the Wolfe Dynasty turned out to be so interesting with hidden pasts and skeletons in their closets!
Lynn Raye Harris has written a spellbinding tale of powerful secrets, new beginnings, redemption and hope that will make readers chuckle as well as wipe away a tear or two. A compelling story about letting go of the past and seizing the day, it is fast-paced and sparkles with red-hot sensuality, mesmerizing emotion and intense passion.

HEARTLESS REBEL is another first-rate story by Lynn Raye Harris!

Jack Wolfe - a financial whiz who always manages to come on top of every game, be it stocks or poker. He was the Wolfe sibling who had to take care of his family, after Jacob, and then Lucas walked away. Although one thing confuses me. It is mentioned that he was sixteen when that happened, is it even possible that a teenager is left in charge (are there any laws about it)? Anyway, he is still bitter about it. Of course he blames Jacob for everything.

Cara found herself in a similar situation. After hurricane Katrina, her father walked out, and she was the one who worked hard and sent money to her family. She goes to Nice for one reason, so that she could cheat while dealing, so that Jack could loose. Her honour steps in the way, and when she flees the city she goes with Jack. And there our story begins.

The plot & Jack were rather good, but I had big issues with Cara. She was okay in the first half of the book, but later she was pathetic, and acts so surprised that everything isn't going the way she wants it to, even when she had her head buried in the sand the entire time they spent in London. I have no idea what she expected, that Jack would miraculously fall in love with her and she would suddenly fit in his glamorous world? She is the biggest reason for the book's low rating.

It would've been nice if Jack managed to fix his relationship with Jacob, but that could happen it Jacob's book, and it didn't bother me that much.

Rating:

2.5 stars.

I did not care for this book at all. I thought it was flat and boring. Jack was good at winning at the tables and was at a table that Cara was was the croupier. She needed money for her family who lived in New Orleans after being a victims of hurricane Katrina and she would earn the sum needed if she waould throw a game. I don't know anything about gambling and wondered how she would do so. Cara had scruples and after being watched very closely she was removed from her table by Bobby, the owner(?) and had to run for her life. Of course, Jack was an expert at winning and he won so he is in trouble too so the two team to make a run for it. Jack was beaten badly by the goons sent by Bobby. On the run together, a physical relation develops but I don't think they related to one another at all. They helped each other but there was no warm or fuzzy feeling though Jack did say he had never felt so worked up about any of the other women he had relationships with as he did with Cara. Even when the contract was oGinnyver, that was it. Or was it? I could only give it two stars.

I’ve enjoyed the previous books in the series, so was very disappointed that this one failed to entertain or excite me.

I disliked the heroine Cara who kept up her distrust of Jack until almost the last page. The execution of the story was bland and boring with unengaging characters.

I’ve read previous books by this author, and sadly they were not my cup of tea. I will read the rest of the series however.

Skimmed a little at the start, when the dude was thinking about himself and how he's ultra rich and bored or whatever. I just cannot relate to that on any level. But I enjoyed the way the relationship went, and how the woman stood up for herself and walked away and the conclusion was quite satisfying.

Started reading just cuz I was horny, ended up kinda feeling for them.
This reads like it was written by a 40 yo divorced women for 40 yo divorced women. I'm clearly not the target demographic so the smut wasn't my type but the story was still nice. Would recommend for a quick vanilla thirsty read

This book is one in a series of eight books written by eight different Authors. The series name is The Notorious Wolfes. And this is Jack Wolfe's story

Jack was forced at the age of 17 to grow up very fast. His older brother Jacob has left after accidentally killing their father while protecting their sister Annabelle from a very serious beating. And this has left Jack to take care of his younger siblings and give up on his dreams of going to college. He has over the years closed off himself to serious relationships including ones with his tortured family. How any of them survived at the hands of such an abusive father is news to me. Jack has made a fortune in the stock markets. To the point he no longer needs money for himself, it is a game he plays because he can and it gives him a thrill.

Cara Taylor is a croupier from New Orleans, who fines herself in Nice France working at a casino dealing blackjack. She has been offered 25,000 to throw a game to a mark her boss has pointed out. She finds she cannot throw the game it just is not in her to cheat. And Jack Wolfe enters the game and not only is he a very good player there is an instant attraction between the two. When Jack ends up winning over 15 million, Cara's boss Bobby Gold is livid. He takes her to a back room and slaps her. But Jack goes looking for her and ends up being beaten up badly by Bobby's men.

Cara, with the help from a casino employee helps Jack escape and soon their relationship takes a turn. You could feel the heat between these two. These two brought out the best in each other and made them both face issues, Jack more so. They had a lot in common, both feeling the need to help take care of family after their fathers had let them down one way or another. I loved the Epilogue and the things that Jack did for Cara's family and for her.

Cara me gusto, me cayo bien.

More from the Notorious Wolfes. This is the story of Jack Wolfe who finds out he has really won the prize when he discovers Cara Taylor.

Cara's boss want her to cheat, but that is not how she was raised. A cheating father showed her that there are dire repercussions to cheating. Ending up with Jack Wolfe, shows her that there is always more than one side of the story, and you must be willing to hear when someone you love needs to speak to you.

A very nice addtion to the saga.

I love the heroine better than the hero. Cara is independent woman and really have responsible for her family. Jack is the guy that enjoying himself after when he young he take care his family due to her older sibling run away. Jack not open for relationship, he held everyone on emotional distance, due to his family background.

I really hope for the better story for Jack and Cara, this story not make me got emotional involved but i love the ending so i rate 3 star for this one.

I am finding this series hard to put down. I am up to book five. the book is about the Wolf family and what they went through with their monster of a father. The stories are reminding me how love can transform very dammaged people and really change lives. I totally love the characters and watching them change. Be warned there are some steamysceens in the series but the storryline is well worth the read.

this book is actually THE MAN WITH THE MONEY, the U.S. version of THE HEARTLESS REBEL. it was only 183 pages, not the M&B 272 page length--what happened in those extra pages in the UK version? this is part of the notorious wolfes series--another brother who is haunted by his past, and a spunky heroine who falls for him.

Menurutku ceritanya seru n gak bertele2 (galaunya ga kelamaan). Suka hero yg badboy n smart, yg kata2 n tindakannya bikin kettawa. Seperti :
"Jack"
"Ya, sayang?"
"Kau tidak mendengarkan"
"Kenapa kau pikir begitu?"
"Karena tanganmu ada di pay***raku"
Omg...kan, Jack nakal juga ... :p...lanjut buku ke 6, ceritanya Rafael n leila :)

Good book. Not typical Harlequin, which is very good. Heroine was NOT a virgin and she saved the Hero's life. The hero was not a super asshole jerk off. He was extremely wealthy but he didnt buy the heroine. Also after the necessary breakup before the HEA, the heroine was not pregnant, although protection was not mentioned at any time.
