After reading azazel I was amazed by Yousef zedan s way of writhing and thinking...so...after reading mahal or mohal or mehal I was disappointed...I just hated the characters and couldn't bond or feel sympathy to there misfortunate and dangerous life they lived...also Norah was so silly and she had a bad sense of humor...
But I still like Yousef zedan
Azazel is a book from soul and mind...

The only reason i'm giving this book 5 stars (although it deserves only 4) is the fact that I read the last book of this triology "Noor" first (not to mention that Zeidan is absolutely my favorite Arabic author). So this book came to clarify alot of things to me , and I definetley enjoyed it; from the way the events started regularly to the incredible twist of events.
I also can't understand why people harshly criticized this book. Zeidan being the author of the prize-winning novel "Azazel" does

Youssef Ziedan strikes again with new triple-face novel
Sherif AzerDaily News Egypt : 05 - 02 - 2012

Youssef Ziedan, author of award-winning multi-million bestselling novel “Azazel,” strikes again with his latest novel, “Mohal.”
Ziedan leaves the title of the novel without the Arabic short vowel marks, or tashkil, making it viable to three different interpretations and, consequently, three different translations. The first and more obvious is “Mohal," which means impossible; the second is "Mahal,"

well, I don't know where exactly should I start...
it's a very lightweight book, there's no connection in the messages that the author wants to deliver, not to mention that the characters are poorly drawn.
the book's subject itself is unorganized; u find tge writer jumping from one topic to another without tackling each one properly, it's as if he's showing off with some geographical, religious, political and historical info in a book made of 250 pages of pure jumbled tedious thoughts!
I believe

I love this novel , this first time i read for yousf Zeiden , novel show how can life change for one simple man with simple dreams , we have to believe that anything could happened to us ! And we have to be realistic about this life , life is cruel and u just have to expect this !

Youssef Zidan portrayed the struggles of a man, whose only aim was to live happily and in contact wid God, in a way that shows how reality is cruel, and how we can be destined to suffer forever just because OTHERS have chosen this for us.

Another novel that has no point... or maybe I just missed it... or maybe the author sucks... or maybe both...
Well... it could be all of that.

Not the worst i have read but quite disappointing. It's extremely boring, but I kept reading waiting for something, anything, when the story starts to happen and i start getting the point of the whole book, but that never happened. Every time something a bit interesting or exciting happens and i think that's the real start of the story, he just lets it die again and keeps disappointing and boring me. The part i think was most interesting for me is when he went to Qatar and started his new job. I ...more

Ummmm... WHAT?!! What did just happen?!

The book was everything you would want in an Arabic novel.
A strong language, very good command on his words. It was fun and some how entertaining and very informative. But that was in the first 100 pages. After that I have no idea what happened. It had no visible features. Was it about the struggling of the less fortunate people? Was it a love story gone wrong? or Was it political? Normally it could be all of these three if the author managed to have a

I had heard that the book was not great compared to Yousef Zidan's previous books but this is not true. The end might be فصيلة but the way till the end is interesting and full of experience. I got a lot of meaningful and inspirational quotes from the book. It was interesting that I finished t in 3 days. At first, the language was a bit difficult but later one gets used to it. The style is really professional and smooth. I liked that it was in Aswan and Sudan and not in Cairo, as many usual ...more

Though all human-being's vulnerabilities n tragedies threaded across the lines of this deep novel, Yet it keeps impressing me till the last word with its quick attractive incidents and how beautifully they were described..!
Gratitude goes here, with no surprise, to the mature-eloquent author 'Yossef Ziddan'..! مُحال 4 stars

Well. I dont know how to start, but I have a start. The whole story about that young man who ended to be jailed by the American troops in Guantanamo, but yet the writer "Zidan" spent 99% of the novel telling how the main character made sex to some girls. The issue that made me think "Does the real hero read such secret intemicy before getting printed"????????

the flow of the story is amazing, the way it's written is beautiful. how he described the feelings and situations was simply brilliant. he managed to merge some of the events that happened to verses of the Quraan and he used really beautiful metaphors for that. i found the ending a bit strange and maybe not justified but i loved the book anyhow. the words, the phrases, the plot,....

I think it is a story that picutred what is going on these days how you can be guilty without doing anything life is unbeleivable and definitely unfair this is how an upper country controls us just like that

This book is good. It is not the best thing I've read in my life, and definitely not the worst. It is simply good.
The last couple of pages were the best part, they left me sad, shocked and confused.

I expected better of the Author especially after the last two novels that I enjoyed and loved, anyone could've written this novel, even the whole buzz around the new Image off Bin Laden was mentioned as much as twice in the whole book.

Waiting for the next book.

I stand my point that Zidan is not a great novelist, but at the same time this is perhaps his best novel, and the finale of it was magnificent. It's the main reason for the 3 stars rating.

I didn't like it that much.
Full of details of different places resulting in complete loss of direction!
Monotonous except for the last chapter, that should have taken a bigger part of the novel.

it takes no time to finish reading this book, it's not so full of events; I guess it is just a build up for it's sequel
