Life is a party, but be careful who you invite.

When Tiffany Johnson, a street-smart publicist at Platinum Images, decides to launch Teaz Entertainment and open a club, she's setting out to be the queen of Philly nightlife. Keeping it in the family, she partners up with her fiancé, Malik, and her sister, Kamille, and counts on her friend DJ Essence to bring the noise. Investors seem to be lining up and the buzz is gettin' loud.

When Tiffany finds out that Malik and Kamille had an affair—and that it might not be the only secret they share—she spirals downward and gets swept up in two unexpectedly erotic affairs of her own. Awakening to a new kind of sexual freedom and reeling from betrayal, Tiffany is raw and vulnerable. So vulnerable that she doesn't realize that her new lovers are involved in more than kinky sex, and that they might take her new club down with them...unless she takes them down first.

Winner of the African-American Literary Award, for her novel Woman On Top, Brenda L. Thomas is the author of several books including the Essence bestselling novels, Threesome, Fourplay, and The Velvet Rope.

Refusing to be held to a particular genre, Brenda writes everything from mystery and suspense to psychological thrillers. Her passion though is traveling the country discussing her memoir, Laying Down My Burdens.

When she’s not writing—which is rare—Brenda can be found at her home in Philadelphia chasing squirrels away from her garden and researching her next erotic short.

Ok this book could have been a 3.5. It was just that some of the things that she was doing was just so unrealistic. For one, I'm not going to be harping on an issue that really was not an issue. Two, I'm not going to date someone name "G-Dog". I mean come on lets date someone who doesn't have the thug nickname. She's a club owner couldn't she have dated someone who wasn't afraid to go by what their momma named them? Then when Mr. Big Bad Haney came into the picture after the first bout with him it would have been done and over. She kept falling into the same stupid position. But for the most part the book was a page turner. I must say that I could have done without the whole f/f/m interaction. The erotic scenes from the m/f was enough. So, because she ended it well with the main characters I could live with it.

I need a barf bag!!!!

I would compare The Velvet Rope to a bad Hollywood horror movie. You know the type (black folk can relate to this) of movie where the victims are so incredibly stupid that you are yelling at the screen pleading for the ax murderer to kill them because they deserve to be murdered for their stupidity....

Tiffany Johnson is a publicist at Platinum Images. She decides to team up with her fiancé, Malik, her sister, Kamille, and her friend DJ Essence to open a Philadelphia nightclub. She soon discovers that Malik and Kamille have had an affair and decides that she should be able to make some choices to exert her own sexual freedom.

Tiffany becomes entangled in a world of drugs and sex and suffers the consequences of her poor choices. When her world begins to crash around her, is there any hope that she can salvage her club and her life?

The Velvet Rope is porn masquerading as chick lit. Readers should be highly warned that there are many extremely sexually explicit situations. As erotica goes, this might have been excusable had the plot been worthwhile; unfortunately, in this case it is not. There is really nothing redeeming or uplifting about the story at all. Tiffany makes one bad choice after another, getting wrapped up in things that she knows she should not be wrapped up in. And Malik and the others aren’t much better. In fact, they are all poster children for showing what can happen if you get messed up in such things.

Who is taking who down

29 year-old Tiffany Johnson, a publicist at Platinum Images. As her popularity grows Tiff begins to crave owning her own....

TEAZ, the newest, hottest club in Philly!

OH NO...Tiffany discovers her sister Kamille, and her fiancé Malik have a secret. What could they possibly be involved in? As the secret comes to light Tiffany feels as though she's been living in the dark.

Tiffany's answer to their secret is to reach for the bottle along with a few other things. While sorting through all of what's happening she finds herself involved with G-Dog. A young wannabe who doesn't have to work too hard to convince Tiff to politic with his ideas. Tiff also meets the infamous D.A. Gregory D. Haney II. A renowned ladies man. He leaves a lasting impression in more than one way!

As Tiff unleashes her uninhibited ways she changes her look and dabbles on the WILD SIDE! To some degree there is some fear for who, and what she might be involved with. But as we all discover the thrill is ENGAGING...

How low can you go...can you go down low...

As Tiff gets wrapped up in the underworld of sex, drugs, and politics a conflict is apparent between maintaining family, friends, and Teaz. What can Tiff do to get herself back into the realm of reality?

Sasha and Phoenix names grace the pages, along with other minor characters from Threesome, and Fourplay.

It's an OKAY read. However, it seems to me PERSONALLY that Brenda is going in reverse. PLEASE BELIEVE the sex is on fire! The story itself seems to fall. The main character seems to be so EXTRA!

I still got love for Brenda and look forward to her taking it back to where she started it.

***READERS could you imagine a book with Brenda L. Thomas, Mary B. Morrison, and Zane...that would be FIRE!***

The Velvet Rope by Brenda L. Thomas
The Velvet Rope by Brenda L. Thomas
Freaky. Sensual. Sexual. Dangerous. Overwhelming. Trust. Drugs. Gambling. Conspiracy. This book was one of the few books that left me in a state of what just happened. A young woman goes from an engaged successful entrepreneur to a alcohol, drug and sex addict back to a happily married woman with secrets that she will most likely take to her grave or not. The sexual scenes were described with great detail that left my toes curling. The deception was remarkable. It is hard to imagine how horrible people are to each other and how hard people make it to be honest. The book emphasizes the importance of making the right choices and that size does matter.

Kinky as you wanna be

Brenda Thomas returns with another erotic literary rendezvous. Tiffany Johnson has gone into business for herself with Teaz Entertainment. At what should be a joyous time, things come crashing down around her as she learns her fiancé and sister know each other a little too well. Still reeling from the shock, her personal life spills over into her new business venture and vice versa. She doesn't know if she's coming or going or which way is up or down as she delves deep into a sexual abyss.

While the sex scenes were hot, that alone couldn't make up for a just okay story. The Velvet Rope was by no means a bad book, but it doesn't begin to touch the momentum of Threesome or even Fourplay. Ms. Thomas seems to have veered off course, but I hope not for long.

It seemed unrealistic... a business woman who worked hard to get what she wanted to date somebody like G-dog. And I hated how desperate she became once she found out her sister and boyfriend's secret, I didn't think she was so strong after that. I could totally understand if she put that anger towards work, but its like she just became a whole other person.

I thought it was a good read. I read Woman on Top first, and then I read this one to get the back story on Tiffany.
